everyone,
I've started a new thread for people starting treatment this month. I'm hoping to make some new friends with people who understand how hard this journey is. Hopefully we can have some fun whilst getting on with the treatment.
This is my first cycle of ivf/icsi so any treatment buddies please say hello.
Lil x

Hiya 👋 I might be starting a bit later should be October/November time but I’d like to follow this thread along if that’s ok x

Maybe2020 · 16/08/2019 17:12

1st time too for me 🙂

Lil221 · 16/08/2019 17:31

Just been to pay the bill for our second round - starting in about 3 weeks on cycle day 2 - terrified this time as doing PGS and scared we won't get any normals embryos x

LillyLeaf · 16/08/2019 20:05

I'll join. This is my second cycle. My first was in December, BFP, MC. FET in May/June, BFP, MC. Pgs tested the remaining embryos, all abnormal so I'm right back at the start. I'm currently on norethisterone but will stop on Sunday, hopefully AF will arrive Wednesday, then baseline scan. I'll be pgs testing again so no transfer this cycle. I've pretty much forgotten what the retrieval cycle is like so it all feels new again. Good luck everyone.

Lil221 · 16/08/2019 20:17

I've started my first cycle today and im on meriofert for 14 days. I'm so glad there are others that I can talk to who are going through the same thing x

I'm not sure about all the acronyms either so bear with me lol how did you find the cycle previously? Is there anything I should be aware of?? X

OP posts:
GreyC · 16/08/2019 20:28

I start down reg on the 23rd. First ICSI cycle. Low AMH for me so nervous about that.

LillyLeaf · 16/08/2019 20:29

I remember my first cycle being physically fine, a bit bloated around retrieval. I remember running for the bus and could feel my ovaries which was strange, but not painful. The injections were absolutely fine and I weirdly enjoyed doing them. The hardest part is the emotional side (sometimes caused by the drugs) and constantly waiting for updates. scan results, blood results, how many eggs, how many fertilised, how many blastocysts. I found all that nerve wracking. I also read the book 'get a life, his and hers survival guide to IVF' and made my DP read it too because your partner really needs to understand what you are going through for support.

Lil221 · 16/08/2019 20:51

I'm really worried about the hormone side of things. I suffer from PMDD so artificial hormones arnt an exciting thought! Lol the injections arnt to bad and like you I quiet like doing them. X

LillyLeaf · 16/08/2019 21:34

I do remember a few times where out of the blue I would feel very emotional, it never lasted very long.

Parkandride · 16/08/2019 22:10

Hi all, I've been on the July / August but just waiting so this one seems a better fit.

Just did my first injection so we're cycle buddies @Lil221!

We're doing PGD icsi for a genetic condition so we have no (known) fertility issues, this is our first cycle. I was so excited to start then bawled my eyes out after jabbing. It hurt more than I expected and was very faffy which stressed us both out, sure it'll get easier though

Lil221 · 16/08/2019 22:16

Hi @parkandride I cant believe were at the very same point. I had my husband inject me this morning and it wasnt too bad. I've got to jab myself tomorrow though lol ask me again how that goes. Xx

Hi all, I've also started my journey now (currently on day 5 of stimms) and adding morning injections tomorrow. I feel absolutely fine these first few days apart from being a little bit more tired at the end of the day and was actually telling my boyfriend I "wish" I felt something (crazy I know). It will be good to share expriences in here. We have had a very relaxed and positive approach to this all thing so far but not sure how it will be if worst comes to worst. best of luck to everyone!

P.S - I don't know all of the acronyms so might just be using the long words here :)

Lil221 · 17/08/2019 12:29

Hi @onisa7, I'm glad your journey Is going well for you both. Is this your first round of treatment? I have also found I'm tired quiet alot too but that could be the fact I have to inject at 6.30am! I'm not looking forward to adding another injection into the mix on tuesday!
I also injected myself this morning and it was actually ok xx

Are you ladies on long protocol so just starting down regging?

I'm doing short protocol so start stims on next cycle in about 3 weeks which would tie in with when you start your stimming?

Lil221 · 17/08/2019 17:49

I'm on a long protocol with a 14 day course. Did anyone else start feeling a bit anxious and irritable so early on. I'm only 2 days in x

IvfBeenWaiting · 17/08/2019 18:06

Hi everyone!
I’m currently on day 9 of stims on short protocol. Had a few bumps in the road with my dosage but hopefully now on track after last scan. We will see on Monday.... Looking at egg collection next Wed-Fri.
xx

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 17/08/2019 18:08

@IvfBeenWaiting
Not long to wait!?
How many follicles have you got so far? X

IvfBeenWaiting · 17/08/2019 18:09

I’m not sure what is the hormones and what is the anxiety. I’ve been feeling quite rageful the last three days. I was on Norethisterone for ten days before that and felt really physically poorly and also emotional on it so I think I’ve been in a crying mood since then!

IvfBeenWaiting · 17/08/2019 18:20

@itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted
I’m not actually sure any more 😂
First scan and blood showed low estrogen, really thin lining and 22 follicles but all small.
Second scan after upping dosage lining had doubled (thank goodness) and follicles were all growing bigger but I didn’t actually ask numbers, I was just so relieved!

Onisa7 · 17/08/2019 18:23

Hi @Lil221, yes this is our first round of treatment. I've been ok with the injections as mine started in the evening (Gonal F) and tomorrow I'll be adding a morning one. A nurse friend has been giving them to me but my boyfriend has been brave enough to do it as well. Not sure if I'd be able to do it myself though...well done to you. I've doing ok...the worst of course is the wait but also not knowing and not having answers, so as soon as they told me treatment and the timeframe I calmed down and I've been ok so far. Of course I'm a bit anxious and trying to do "all the right things" but at the same time we're very relaxed knowing that what will be will be. And I haven't snapped at anyone, so that's good :D

@itwasalovelydreamwhileitlastedI'm on a short protocol and should be ready for egg collection by the end of next week....crazy!

Mostunexpected · 17/08/2019 18:34

Hi all. We were supposed to start treatment for our FET in July but got a surprise BFP instead. Unfortunately I miscarried and so am waiting for my period and then hopefully will go back to the original plan of a FET hopefully in September/October.

Those of you who are finding the injections a little painful. If you stick some ice on the area for 5 mins before and also use a numbing cream or spray it doesn't hurt at all.

If you have done PGS can I ask how much it was? I'm a little paranoid after my miscarriage and am unsure whether it's worth getting our embryos screened or even if we can as they are all frozen 🤔

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 17/08/2019 18:48

@Mostunexpected
I had a natural BFP after a failed ivf in May but sadly miscarried too

I'm doing PGS due to history of recurrent miscarriage - my clinic is £950 for the first embryo including assisted hatching/biopsy/testing/6 months frozen storage

It's then I think £700 per embryo after that

You can get frozen ones tested - they have to thaw them and then refreeze so there is always the risk that they don't survive 2 thawing processes

I'm terrified that they all come back as abnormal x

Mostunexpected · 17/08/2019 19:06

Thanks itwaslovely. That's what worries me really - the double thawing process. Plus the FET itself is pretty expensive even without testing 5 embryos. My clinic seems to be very expensive compared to others so it may well cost quite a bit more than what you're paying as well.
But then I think how much I'd pay to avoid another miscarriage and it's basically everything I have! Though even if I paid for PGS I know there's no guarantee it'll work.

It must be really difficult having suffered multiple losses. But the chances of there being no normal embryos at all must be small.
