everyone,
I've started a new thread for people starting treatment this month. I'm hoping to make some new friends with people who understand how hard this journey is. Hopefully we can have some fun whilst getting on with the treatment.
This is my first cycle of ivf/icsi so any treatment buddies please say hello.

Has anybody had ohss? I don’t know much about it. But I’ve had my egg collection today and because they was quite a lot of eggs they seem to think I could get it? When do you start to notice signs/ symptoms of it?

facevalue · 08/10/2019 08:24

@Stacey2007 thankfully never had this. if u read online it says pain sickness feeling unwell- if i do feel like that let your clinic know but try drinking loads of water apparently can help x fingers crossed u don't get it.

i think it just means they give u less drugs next time and there was a lady who was ill with it so had to freeze embryos and transfer later when she gets better xxx goodluck / keep us posted

Stacey2007 · 08/10/2019 10:02

Thanks @facevalue I’ve just had a call, they are freezing mine and transferring later. I’m quite happy about it tbh. Give my body a little rest, I don’t want to end up really I’ll x

facevalue · 08/10/2019 12:15

@Stacey2007 oh no. what's happened? are you feeling unwell? are they freezing now? or waiting for day5- any details on how many eggs fertilised etc .. does that mean pay again? i'm sorry to hear this x

Stacey2007 · 08/10/2019 12:27

Collected 33eggs. 26 matured. Only 3 fertilised, he said if he was to transfer one back in it might make me really ill. I think they are freezing from tomorrow he said, I feel a little rubbish today, still a little sore, and had a sicky dizzy spell this morning, I hope I don’t have to pay again, he never mentioned that I do, Iknow I will have to pay for the freezing, but then again until I meet with him Thursday I’ve no idea what will happen, do I have to use injections again if it’s jusy transfer? X

facevalue · 08/10/2019 13:10

oh no @stacey2007 that sounds rubbish babe. i'm so so sorry 😢 i think you getting the best advice, let your body heal and feel ready to carry a healthy baby. you only really need one to stick.

i suspect you will need to pay for a frozen transfer - probably scans to check your womb maybe pessaries to ripe the uterus ( i'm no expert as never had any embryos to freeze in 5 cycles).

3 fertilised is a good number in my book .. it's unlucky to have had OHSS and please rest..

i'm hoping the ladies who were on here and had OHSS or frozen cycles will be checking the thread soon to help.

is there maybe another active thread for oct /nov cycles - might be helpful to join that so u get more support than what i'm saying 😢 sorry i'm feeling inadequate with personal advice as not experienced xxx hugs

@facevalue we have quite a bit of reading around the pessaries NICE guidelines I believe it was recommends using them till at least 8 weeks after conception. My clinic only wanted me to continue till 7/8weeks which technically is only 5/6 weeks from conception. So there is quite mixed approaches from clinics. The placenta takes over from 12wks ish hence there is no requirement for pessary after that so I can see ur clinic approach. I am sorry ur feeling 🤢🤢 with it... I have been lucky that I can stand food atm and it eases off the nausea. Fingers crossed it will all ease after 12wks.

@Vilanelle huge congrats for your BFP. Pls don't take note of people making assumptions that it is ectopic. The disappearance of symptoms is by no means a symptom of ectopic. Some of the symptoms of ectopic overlap with normal pregnancy but some won't even get any symptoms. One sided specific pain and shoulder tip are common in ectopic but then again one sided pain can happen on normal pregnancy. Hopefully not too long till ur scan now. Good luck.

@Stacey2007 I had mild ohss and at my scan last week my ovaries were still huge. I started off with awful bloating, constipation after ET and got worst from there. For nearly 2 weeks especially the first week I was in a lot of pain driving going through bumps and even walking slightly fast was agony. My clinic didn't see me first time around but second time I insisted that something isn't right given that it was 3rd cycle this was different. I only had 10 collected so technically wasn't even at risk for ohss. Make sure u drink plenty of fluid, look out for decreased urine output, coconut water (I found it disgusting), protein drink/food. Look out for sudden increase in weight or waist size. Its not very common to need hospitalisation with ohss but u do rather feel crap with it. The freeze option was very good idea as, as soon as u get a period it all sorts itself out. Mine wasn't helped by ET and then the fact that i got BFP. Still wouldn't have it any other way though. Good luck

facevalue · 09/10/2019 20:08

@Sabelaa thanks. helpful replies. did you say it was BFP for you? if so many many congratulations if i haven't done already x how far are you? i have my 12 w scan 1 nov. excited and nervous ..

facevalue · 09/10/2019 20:09

@Stacey2007 how are you feeling today? are you managing to drink fluids? x

Stacey2007 · 09/10/2019 21:35

@facevalue I feel a little off today, left side lower stomach hurts really bad, I called to see if I could go see doctor, I’ve seen him tonight, he’s done a scan I am swollen but he said that’s normal, I haven’t at the moment got ohss, so that’s good, I guess I’ve just got to take every day as it comes, I have been drinking a lot of water, and going for a wee as normal, so hopefully next couple of days I might start feeling a little better x

Sabelaa · 09/10/2019 21:42

@facevalue I think me and you were some of the first to get BFP on this thread and yes u did say congrats a while back but thank u again. I am almost 9 weeks now yet to have midwife booking appt. I should be round about similar times for dating scan as you. I know the feeling it couldn't come soon enough and hopefully we can breath a bit more from then on xx

facevalue · 09/10/2019 22:27

@sabela i'm 9 weeks on saturday i think. i only just today got my midwife appointment for next week and the scan appointment for 1nov. i'm feeling rough the nausea comes in waves and the heartburn is awful .. mood swings and my clinic said i have to continue the pessaries until 12 weeks i'm not keen and i think i ll just finish the supply until sunday and not cash the next prescription 🙄

Sabelaa · 10/10/2019 22:19

@facevalue it's interesting how the clinics vary so much on how long to take the pessary. I just finished mine yesterday n they said I could have stopped last week or just finished what I has left which is what i did. First night pessary free finally. A bit scary thinking will it be ok without it but I think it's cause I am on edge with whole thing. Just taking one day at a time 🤞. I am not so bad with heart burn yet. Does Gaviscon not help. It was go to with ny first. My ovaries are still massive so feeling the pressure as my womb gets bigger.

@Stacey2007 how are you feeling?
