Apologies for the source (news of the world ) but I do mostly agree with what Carole Malone says here , though I accept that Jade's 'celebrity' is her job, career even, and so it's all a bit of a double edged sword.

UniversallyChallenged · 24/08/2008 21:21

agree with you beanieb - CMs last point about at the end of the day there sits a terrified mum worried about her boys growing up orphans (tho of course their dad is around) is the main point of this I feel

Gunnerbean · 25/08/2008 12:39

Quite. No one minds anyone having a opinion on any given subject, least of all me.

I haven't taken issue with anyone who has expressed a valid opinion which is opposed to, or different from, my own.

The difference here was that Posieflump didn't express an opinion at all.

She made a nasty, snide, uncalled for and shemeful comment at the expense of someone who is vulnerable and terminally ill.

The fact that she doesn't know Jade Goody shouldn't make any difference at all. I'll wager she wouldn't dream of doing it about another MumsNetter, even if she didn't know them from Adam either.

So you see, Posieflump is the bully - not me. I simply gave her a taste of her own medicine, which is what all bullies should have. Unsurprosingly she didn't seem to like it much.

I haven't got anymore to say on the matter. My only hope is that she's learnt something from this and will think more carefully about what she says in future.

EelCod · 25/08/2008 12:43

oh you lto are happy today

Saturn74 · 25/08/2008 13:06

"She made a nasty, snide, uncalled for and shemeful comment at the expense of someone who is vulnerable and terminally ill".

No she didn't.

Posie expressed an opinion that she thought JG would be better served being at home with her family at this time, rather than giving interviews to the media.

Just because you do not agree with her comment does not make it uncalled for.

Posie is not a bully.

Besides which, she has had the grace to apologise for any hurt she may have caused to anyone.

lojoesmammy · 25/08/2008 13:07

Poor thing. My cousin was diagnosed with this at 18 and had her hysterectomy 3 days after her 19th birthday. And to think that they NEVER DO SMEARS FOR UNDER 25's any more, (unless you are already in the system)

spongebrainbigpants · 25/08/2008 14:05

It might be an idea to stop referring to Jade as 'terminally' ill. As far as I'm aware no conclusion has been reached as to her long term prognosis.

EelCod · 25/08/2008 14:07

why are we rowing about her
she i a waste osf space
sh ehas cancer
hey ho
so do lots of normal people

expatinscotland · 25/08/2008 14:45

!

expatinscotland · 25/08/2008 15:05

From 'The Mumsnet Philosophy':
'This is a discussion forum and we ask you to respect other people's right to their opinions, even if you disagree with them. Our policy is to keep intervention to a minimum and let the conversation flow. Having said that, we will remove postings that are obscene, contain personal attacks or break the law. Please do bear in mind that we all know how difficult this parenting business can be, and if there's one thing all of us could do with, it's some moral support.

Whilst we allow unlimited nickname changes to preserve anonymity we don't allow name changing for misleading, malicious or inflammatory purposes.'

It is not in the spirit of MN to attack a poster personally, continue to call them a bully whilst being incredibly insulting and mean-spirited to them and continue to do so after he/she has attempted to apologise.

Not on.

!

posieflump · 25/08/2008 15:19

thanks Expat

posieflump · 25/08/2008 15:20

and HC (again!) 'Posie expressed an opinion that she thought JG would be better served being at home with her family at this time, rather than giving interviews to the media.' That was honestly all I was meaning.

UniversallyChallenged · 25/08/2008 19:34

well dont bump the thread then cod

people are talking about her because she is a young person in the public eye with 2 young children and cancer. Yes of course many other people have but they aren't all as newsworthy

people do silly things when they are scared. I wonder if this will mean more women who have been missing smears make appointments to go.

Showmeheaven · 27/08/2008 15:37

Jade said in the interview you posted belgianbun that she had abnormal cells before she was sexually active .... is that possible I thought the HPV virus was contracted during sex with an infected partner ???

Yea, I'd love to know for sure. I think they won't confirm it is because it would put off some women going for smears.

I, for instance, have only had one sexual partner in my life (my dh). He has also never been with anyone else, so I always wonder do I need to keep going for smears every 2 years .....????

tortoiseshell · 27/08/2008 20:58

Well, I wish her well. And it has kicked me into booking an overdue smear test - haven't had one for ages.

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 29/08/2008 12:52

you can "get it" before being sexually active.

OonaghBhuna · 29/08/2008 17:50

After reading about her being too scared to go back into hosp makes me realize how little support there is for people in a similar situation.Perhaps if she hadnt ignored the letter she mightnot have needed such intensive treatment. Its awful, poor girl, never been a fan of hers but this is awful for her and her little children.

hifi · 30/08/2008 01:07

i do feel for her,all the publicity isn't necessary though. she should deal with it privately.

DforDiva · 30/08/2008 21:26
