Dear God - this really is the bad side of MN coming out on this thread.

I have no feelings towards Jade or her reality TV chums but wouldn't wish this on anybody.

If it does turn out to be a publicity stunt then she's a very silly girl, but given the information we have at the moment surely she deserves nothing but sympathy?

shhhh · 19/08/2008 15:18

Malory, no I wouldn't BUT Im not famous and my family don't rely on my income.

I just think the time in which the results were made available was unavoidable and like rubyslippers said, she thought her chances were low due to age etc....

Thing is, I guess there are many celebrities going through test, health checks etc while on TV, writing articles, On the radio etc....Yet we never know because possibly things are clear iykwim and they were not in the same position as Jade ie on bb.

Just think as fellow women who could face a similar situation as Jade we need to be supportive no matter what has happened. What does it take for people to change their views and to be a bit more tactful..? Her lo's loosing their mother..? I hope not

minorityrules · 19/08/2008 15:18

yep, so what do i do when i'm scared? go on reality tv and get my medical test results announced over camera.

Just to say, the reports said she went into diary room, spoke to her consultant and agent (clifford) then went into house to get her things and broke down/told housemates and none of it was shown or will be shown on tv (as part of the big brother show)

I think this thread is mean, of course she needed to go on with normal work (for her), I had to too. She may not be everyones cup of tea but she has pulled herself up from very disadvantaged beginnings

VinegarTits · 19/08/2008 15:19

Some nasty, horrible trouts on here imo, read the article, its doesn't read like a publicity stunt to me, it would be the lowest of the low if it were, there would be upraw, nobody is that dense, not even Jade Goody.

Guadalupe · 19/08/2008 15:24

She probably didn't expect it to be cancer. I didn't.

When I had loop excision for CIN III four years ago I got a letter a few weeks later saying all the affected area had been removed. That's what I expected to happen this time although it was at the back of my mind that sometimes the treatment needs to be repeated if there is abnormality close to the margins.

I wasn't expecting to get a letter saying they needed to speak to me about results and for those results to be a stage one cancer. She may have considered a treatment to be the end of it. It is usually.

for your black soul malory

Earlybird · 19/08/2008 15:37

Well, count me in as a cynic. No doubt there is something legitimately wrong with her. I'm sure it's not completely fabricated, but I do suspect it is being exaggerated.

The way this has been handled - the drama of a Big Brother diary room diagnosis/'reveal', statements by Max Clifford, etc - seems set up for maximum publicity/sympathy value. What better way to revitalise a 'dying' career than to come up with the human angle of a potentially life-threatening illness? It is just about the only thing with power to eclipse her 'racist' label (tragic situation for a young single Mum with cancer - ok she's a racist, but she doesn't deserve to die, etc, etc).

As I said in an earlier post - I wish her the best of luck, and a speedy recovery from her diagnosis.

belgo · 19/08/2008 15:40

I think cynicism is only a natural reaction to anything we read in the media about celeb culture. A great deal of it is a load of rubbish.

I understand why people are cynical of Jade Goody's illness. The story so far doesn't seem to quite add up imo, but I do believe that she does have cancer, unfortunately for her.

RubySlippers · 19/08/2008 15:43

i do think she is ill

i don't think it is a publicity stunt

i think Belgo is right - so much of what we read is rubbish/exagerated our immediate reaction is disbelief

nobody is wishing anything on JG

just taking this news with a healthy degree of sceptism until proved otherwise

belgo · 19/08/2008 15:56

It's a bit unfair to say that some posters are wishing this upon her.

TheFifthApe · 19/08/2008 15:57

I know!

like we are all rubbing out hands with glee or something ffs

beanieb said: As a single mother, no - just as a mother - I bet she is shitting herself about her future, her children's future, paying her mortgage, providing for her children. Oh how dare she carry on earning a wage and getting on with jobs she had already committed herself to.

I'm sure she is shitting herself. Anyone would be, and I do feel sorry for her. I'm also sure she's shitting herself as she sabotaged her career, and hasn't earned much (if anything) for several years since her true nature was revealed in the Big Brother house. No one wants her to endorse their products anymore, there are no more offers for personal appearances, who would want Jade Goody perfume now?, no more stories to sell to OK, or Hello or whoever. How in the hell does she rehabilitate her career/profile with the public? How does she earn significant money again?

I have worked professionally with many people in the public eye for decades, and I promise you, celebrities 'use' news like this to their advantage.

I will repeat - I do think there is something genuinely wrong, and don't believe she would fabricate completely. I just expect (and do in fact hope) that there will be news of a complete recovery accompanied by a publicity blitz ('I was terrified I would die, please can I plead with you all not to delay having your smears, early detection is the key', etc, etc).

I think if her diagnosis was truly serious and life-threatening, she would not be making it so public.

LIZS · 19/08/2008 16:04

I just hope that whatever and however severe it turns out to be, she is allowed and advised, to handle it with dignity and discretion rather than turn it into some media crusade.

Earlybird · 19/08/2008 16:07

Should clarify:

I have worked professionally with many people in the public eye for decades, and I promise you, some (definitely not all) celebrities 'use' news like this to their advantage.

Who cares whether anyone likes Jade Goody??
She is a woman that has had a devastating diagnosis. She could lose her womb, her ability to have kids, her life??

Also, if she does come out with the 'girls, make sure you have your smear' campaign, if even one person is helped by this then surely it's worth it....I've just made my appointment as it's 12 months overdue!

Come on Ladies, give her a break!! All the money in the world aint going to help her and for those of you that do want to waste your time bitching about her, why don't you just be thankful that it's her and not you!

not read it all.

she's not too young. and i feel terrible about it if she's really ill.

but something about the way the whole thing has been handled just shouts out at me as another publicity stunt??

a excuse to get her out of the indian bb house before she embarrasses herself, and will guarantee her sympathy.

2shoes · 19/08/2008 17:02

hope what ever her health problem is she gets better soon.
