It turns out Jade Goody has cervical cancer, not 'womb cancer'.

megglevache · 19/08/2008 18:13

I agree with everythign Earlybird has said.

CoteDAzur · 19/08/2008 18:33

shhh, re "its not been confirmed atm (waiting for more tests tomorrow)..either womb or cervical.."

Sorry but that is nonsense.

A cancer diagnosis is done with colposcopy/biopsy and you would hope the doctor knew which organ she was cutting a piece out of to be analysed.

Like expat, I had CIN III diagnosis (the step before cancer) and a loop excision operation to cut out the precancerous area on the cervix. This announcement of "womb cancer", no less, rings false to me.

We will see if she comes out of this after a little operation and all is well (in which case she had precancerous cells that were removed like mine) or if she has a hysterectomy and undergoes chemotherapy, loses her hair like Kylie Minogue, in which case she really had cancer.

elmoandella · 19/08/2008 18:38

i had CIN 2, i also feel it's odd the way they just announced it. there's smear, colposcopy's and then a biopsy before you get the result. if you get to the biopsy stage you certainly wouldn't go into bb house when you know you will be stuck there for months with the chance the cancer growing.

LIZS · 19/08/2008 18:42

That 's what I do find odd. To have gone all that way away from your children and friends knowing she was being actively investigated for cancer (assuming she has had all the preliminary tests) and time might be precious. Everyone deals with it differently though I suppose, maybe she wanted to keep things "normal" until it proved otherwise necessary.

AuntieMaggie · 19/08/2008 18:45

Not read the whole thread so apologise if I'm repeating myself but cervical cancer is one of the most common cancers amongst young women (under 35) and the death rate is quite high - well higher than i ever imagined!

Oh the things you learn sat watching a health fact tv thing in the doc's waiting room.

The BBC website says it's been confirmed:

"Jade had some tests recently, then she went off to India to appear in the Indian Big Brother," Mr Clifford said.

"Yesterday we got a call from her consultant to say she had cancer of the cervix and so she has to come back straight away."

When asked if the result was a positive smear test or a confirmed diagnosis of cancer, Mr Clifford said: "No, it is cancer."

Earlybird · 19/08/2008 18:47

I also have had CIN3 precancerous cells with loop excision/colposcopy and biopsy - which thankfully, was clear. All has been fine since.

I confided in a few friends, and was amazed to find out how many people have been through it. It's quite commonplace apparently.

CoteDAzur · 19/08/2008 18:49

Yes, CIN I, II, III are quite common but that is not cervical cancer and it certainly isn't womb cancer.

AuntieMaggie · 19/08/2008 18:56

I've just gone back to read some of this thread and am appalled over some of the spiteful comments about Jade! I can't believe how spiteful some of you can be!

I honestly don't think she is a bad person (a bit silly maybe but not bad) after all she looked after her disabled mother for years. Not that my opinion matters - at the end of the day she's a mother and a daughter and she needs support not slagging off.

I recently had a smear and was petrified of what it might show after a serious cancer scare 2 years ago which resulted in me having major surgery to remove large lumps of which were thankfuly not cancerous, so I can only imagine what she is going through to get a diagnosis like this compared with my maybe.

TheOldestCat · 19/08/2008 18:56

Same here, Earlybird - I had CIN3 precancerous cells (loop excision etc) and I know so many people who've had the same thing.

Just had the last of my fifth annual-smears and it's clear, hoorah. Back to every three years for me.

Does seem strange that Ms Goody had so much investigative stuff done (if the docs did suspect cancer), then went to India. But whatever is going on, let's hope she makes a speedy recovery.

joliejolie · 19/08/2008 18:57

There are quite a few negative posts, but you do reap what you sow.

Jade has built a career on having no descernable talents: not being very smart, not being very attractive and being a bit of a bullying loudmouth. It is no surprise she has not got a legion of fans, what has she done to deserve them anyway??

I am not saying that we should not feel bad, but she has done so many stunts (negative and positive) to stay in the public eye. Maybe some people feel she has just "cried wolf" a few too many times!

expatinscotland · 19/08/2008 18:58

my landlord's wife had CINIII that was unfortunately located in her endocervical canal.

because she had looooonnnggg completed childbearing and also had fibroids which were causing very heavy periods, she chose hysterectomy as treatment, and in her case it was a wise choice, as the biopsy on her cervix showed she did indeed have cancer in situ in addition to the CINIII.

brooke shields had CINIII that was located in her endocervical canal.

because she was quite young and had not had children, her condition was treated with what is called cone biopsy.

in her case, it did cause infertility in that scar tissue from the procedure formed a barrier to sperm.

but she did conceive using assisted reproduction.

joliejolie · 19/08/2008 19:05

My sister went through the same and is now waiting for a hysterectomy. She doesn't want to live the rest of her life in fear, so she feels this is the only answer.

She was absolutely beside herself before the results came back. It took nine days!! Jade was seen laughing and smiling in the Indian BB house...so I am confused and wonder if she did know. How could she leave her boys, even for money, at such a time?

mamadiva · 19/08/2008 19:12

I can't stand her TBH but wouldn't wish that on her or her kids Didn't she have a scare last year too? I'm sure she did it was all over the papers but turned out she didn't.

I hope to god this isn't a publicity stunt! If it is she might as well wish she did have it because she will be a target!

They wouldn't have shown that without her concent which worries me a bit I know she's thicka dn all but surely she didn't agree to that!

shhhh · 19/08/2008 19:16

cotedazure...
"re "its not been confirmed atm (waiting for more tests tomorrow)..either womb or cervical.."

Sorry but that is nonsense."

Sorry but im not a media reporter and was only going off what I read....Im also not a medical person so am quite clueless on types of cancer...Sorry I can't be the best at everything I do.

Anyway..who gives a sh1t if its womb or cervical..? FFS she is ill and is not 100% clear on what is wrong or what the treatment would be. Don't be so keen on the "gory" details. The facts are she needs further treatment whatever it may be.

This thread is nasty.I so feel for jade if she's a mner. Some real bitches about atm.

CoteDAzur · 19/08/2008 20:15

Obviously, it is not you, but the media announcement you quoted that is nonsense. For the stated reasons.

Nobody expects you to 'be best at everything you do' (this thread isn't about you ) but we do expect the very public and sensational cancer announcement of a D-list celeb to be consistent with facts.

shhhh · 19/08/2008 20:20

never said the thread was about me BUT your comments seemed to be picking up on what I had said earlier....You weren't clear enough!

Media, consistant with facts..Pah..! Asking a bit much.

VinegarTits · 20/08/2008 09:00

This thread has annoyed the tits off me, especially the comments about her going to india after she had tests for cancer. What would you suggest she do?? sit at home bitting her nails waiting for the results, i know if it were me i would be keeping positive and carry on doing my job(which is what the girl was doing) if she had not gone and the tests came back clear then i am sure she would have let a lot of people down, producers of the show etc... and then you would all be slagging her off for that!

Dont forget, she already had 2 scares that came back clear, so i am sure in her mind she never expected it to be cancer, and probably expected another clear result, so she carried on as normal. I have seen some negative, nasty, bias(just because you dont like her) bitches on this thread, should be ashamed of yourselfs.

Incedently she is not my favorite z lister either but i try not to judge people i have never met before.

Flightlite · 20/08/2008 09:05

I am so sorry for her.

I guess if anything good can come from this it will be to make young women aware that these things do happen, and perhaps that the risk factors, eg smoking (I think? Might be wrong) should be avoided.

You can't take your health for granted at any age really.

I hope that doesn't sound like I am knocking Jade in any way, just that the situation for her combined with massive pulicity might have a good effect on awareness iyswim.

Earlybird · 20/08/2008 17:20

Article in today's paper said she went to India after the medical tests because she needed the £100k fee shw was to be paid.

I hadn't realised she stayed in the BB there for such a short time - not even 24 hours before she was given the news and left.

donnie · 20/08/2008 18:40

well I cannot bear her character or what she symbolises at all- she is a vile, foul mouthed slattern who celebrates being thick and dim witted. However, if she is truly ill then I pity her and wish her well.

AuntieMaggie · 20/08/2008 20:53

Max and a friend of Jade's were on Richard and Judy tonight and said that she's been having regular tests for the past 4 years and they've always been clear, infact she was told 2 weeks ago that she was clear but had to have more tests so I think she went into the house not expecting the results she got. (He also said the papers were printing a pile of crap about the situation)

I agree with VinegarTits - when I had my scare I was offered time off work and was encouraged to take it by my GP but the last thing I wanted to do was sit around. I got on with things and took on more responsibilty in work to take my mind off it and apart from the management none of my colleagues knew what I was going through until a week before surgery.

She's not my favourite celeb either but think she deserves support for what she and her family are going through. And I agree that you shouldn't judge people you don't know.

SpookyMadMummy · 20/08/2008 22:08

A video has surfaced on YouTube showing the moment Jade was told she had cancer.
here
If I had had that news I would not want to see it on YouTube I have reported it.

CoteDAzur · 20/08/2008 22:25

Auntie - You see, that is precisely the kind of thing that doesn't ring true - You don't have regular tests for past four years with clean results and then suddenly develop cervical cancer. Each stage between CIN I, II, III, and cancer in situ takes 1-2 years. So you need to have completely ignored your smear tests for at least 3-4 years to suddenly be faced with a cervical cancer diagnosis.

I'm sorry for her whatever the circumstances were, and God knows I was all over the place with my CIN III diagnosis, which was as bad as it gets before actual cancer, but it's hard to sympathise when the publicised version just doesn't make sense.

LittleBella · 20/08/2008 22:28

oh good god are we really only going to feel sorry for her if she displays the correct side-effects?

FFS. Who cares how stupid or unsavoury she is. She has young children who love her and whom she loves and she must be terrified that she'll die and leave them without her. She must feel like shit. Poor woman. I hope she'll be OK. (Though will probably be on a thread 5 years down the line slagging her off about her latest misdemeanour if she is. )
