"The witness could have simply called the first number of there and told them what she had found and then leave."

How? You do know phones have a lock function?

Why would you just walk away? She recognised Nicola! This was not an unknown person, who wax careless with her dog, phone and harness.

Frazzledmummy123 · 08/02/2023 11:41

I am pretty sure this has been thought about already, but the diver keeps talking about the area at the bench as the potential river entry point. What if she left her phone behind on the bench by accident after sending the text/the meeting finished, and she fell into the river at another deeper point somewhere else? I know the dogs harness was found near the phone, but I'm sure there's an explanation for that.

There are 3 explanations I can think of for the police's stance that she is in the river:

  • They have info they haven't made public why they believe she is there (we know the diver hasn't been told everything by the police).
  • It's a cover story while they watch everyone. They are covering their a**es and sticking with their story because they have messed up by not cordoning the area off.

"I’m not sure why he’d do that,to be honest. He can meet with Faulding in private, this way is full media glare"

You've just answered why he'd do that! They want the media to stay focused on Nicola, obviously Confused

He can't win at the moment. People are saying "where is he?" and "I'd be out searching every day if that was my wife" but when he does come out, people are critical of that too!

I feel for her partner so much. Keeping those poor girls going whilst all this is going on must be hell on earth.

Oaktree55 · 08/02/2023 11:42

When I posted before about her heavy clothes someone said those down coats give floatation to a degree. So it’s perfectly reasonable that this may have aided her being washed out with tides rather than sinking as dove guy says most do. I live in a coastal area over the years accidents happen it takes a long time, sometimes never, for bodies to turn up.

kirinm · 08/02/2023 11:43

@BethFromThisIsUs I think I agree although I'm not convinced she fell in.

The phone was still connected to the team call, maybe the lock was not on. People say things if her fella did not visit the area so he is showing that he is visiting the area.

Yes, it's about to be struck off because it's late filing its accounts. But that doesn't point to any sort of financial issues.

the last accounts filed show that the company was not in a good financial position just a few hundred pounds in reserves...

verystablegenius · 08/02/2023 11:45

has any one noticed that the river wasn’t flowing fast in the day?

ofwarren · 08/02/2023 11:46

People on twitter even commenting on the fact he has sunglasses with him. Making out he's all about appearances.
It's really sunny here today! I was squinting on the school run.

Is the partner the children's dad? Just hadn't seen it stated anywhere and wondered.

itsnote · 08/02/2023 11:47

"Why would you just walk away? She recognised Nicola! This was not an unknown person, who wax careless with her dog, phone and harness."

Because her first emotion was annoyance that the dog was persistently off the lead near her business where dogs are welcome, strictly on lead only? Yet local people ignore the rule that says dogs must be on leads....

She didn't know Nicola was in harms way.

itsnote · 08/02/2023 11:48

@Guiltycat yes

Activelyannoyed · 08/02/2023 11:48

The Peter Faulding /Jeremy vine interview is quite interesting.

You should see my company accounts! It means nothing.

If you're a small business or a consultant working through a PSC it's perfectly normal to empty out the company accounts by the end of the year. You take out what you need in salaries and dividend and put the rest of your profits into your pension. Completely normal.

Guiltycat · 08/02/2023 11:49

Thank you @itsnote

kirinm · 08/02/2023 11:49

@ilovebrie8 not having lots of cash in the back or net assets doesn't mean that it was in a precarious positions. If it had £££ of liabilities (debts) that would be a different matter.

Oaktree55 · 08/02/2023 11:49

She was also small and slight I doubt she’d leave the marks everyone thinks she would on the bank. If there wasn’t a dog I’d entertain other ideas more but the dogs behaviour indicates she went in. Dogs can get through tiny gaps even if gate shut. Generally speaking had she been taken etc the dog would not have still be by the river.

placemats · 08/02/2023 11:50

It seems strange that were no other dog walkers or walkers in the area after the person in a hurry to get to their appointment tied the dog up, put the phone on the bench and left. That's a huge gap in time until the police were alerted and cordoned off the scene to search the area.

The poor guy can't do anything right. Maybe he is wearing sunglasses to cover bags under his eyes because he hasn't slept a wink with worry.

A lot of Twitter posters really have it in for him. There is cctv of him being in the house that morning and if he was going to do anything, he wouldn't do it in broad daylight in public would he. As if things aren't hard enough for him without being accused.

  • It's a cover story while they watch everyone. They are covering their a**es and sticking with their story because they have messed up by not cordoning the area off.

The last one is more likely.
The police have approached this case with a basic assumption about the river. They haven’t taken the necessary or correct steps to cordon off the area, gather evidence and treat it as a crime scene because all along they have been treating the case like an accident.

And it might still be an accident. But what if isn’t.

Only now are the police are enquiring about enemies and stalkers. Only now are they finally considering another angle - 12 days later. This should have been done from the very first moment the emergency services arrived.
They are sticking with it now because heads will roll if god forbid their incompetence becomes public knowledge. It’s the same reason they are telling us all to shut up, because it’s hurtful to the family, and coming out publicly to say she is in the river, despite Nicolas family saying otherwise. They want this case to fade away quickly.

MucozadeOnLucozade · 08/02/2023 11:52

Looking at her Strava account, it does show lots of history of that particular walk with the dog. On one example it shows it wasn't unusual for her to walk very close to the edge of the river from the bench, exactly where they are searching for her. Maybe she did indeed slip in at that spot, but you'd think she'd be found by now.

Activelyannoyed · 08/02/2023 11:37

I’m not sure why he’d do that,to be honest. He can meet with Faulding in private, this way is full media glare and she’s clearly not at that spot. I’m guessing he is just desperate.

I think this is a very significant move.

Its saying to me that PA is aligning with PF and has lost confidence with the police.

Is it odd that the friend Emma White was there rather than NB or PA family to support him?

She’s an adult, who is not considered vulnerable. I thought you had to be missing for 24hrs before the police took any notice
