Looking at her Strava account, it does show lots of history of that particular walk with the dog. On one example it shows it wasn't unusual for her to walk very close to the edge of the river from the bench, exactly where they are searching for her. Maybe she did indeed slip in at that spot, but you'd think she'd be found by now.

But it was literally 12 inches deep. You have to go,towards the middle for it to get deeper. It was literally a shallow bank the likely hood of her drowning in 12 inches of water and being carried away so quickly that no one could see or find her and the divers not being able to, is the issue.

OK I am doubtless missing something, but how can the police be sure there is no criminal element? As in, how could they ever be? Or is the point that this may be a bluff? Sorry if I am being thick...

She’s an adult, who is not considered vulnerable. I thought you had to be missing for 24hrs before the police took any notice

I don’t agree - given the circumstances of the phone in use and other factors the police would not have waited 24 hours.

Oaktree55 · 08/02/2023 11:57

It wasn’t 12 inches the random dive guy has said on interview it was 4m in Centre! If she bumped her head was dazed after fall onto rocks (again rocks reported by dive guy) then she may easily have walked towards deep centre as she was dazed!

ITV
Paul Ansell - Nicola’s partner is sat by the window inside the incident support unit. He’s been talking to the search team for the past 20 mins.

No not thick. I believe it should have been a criminal investigation when it was obvious this was so out of character and she was mid meeting.

Incredibly unlikely.

I think this is a very significant move.

Its saying to me that PA is aligning with PF and has lost confidence with the police.

Is it odd that the friend Emma White was there rather than NB or PA family to support him?

I agree that it's significant too
It shows that the family are putting trust in what Peter Faulding is saying. They believe she isn't in the river.

And if she was hurt or in the water I wonder why the dog didn’t follow her in, most dogs will have been frantic. And barking.

Oaktree55 · 08/02/2023 12:01

This is how most serious accidents happen a catalogue of random unfortunate events which follow each other forming a cascade with a bad outcome. Accidents aren’t usually logical or foreseeable as if they were then they’d always be avoided!

I disagree. I wouldn’t assumed she had bad news on the call and needed to walk away. Have you never felt like just walking away? Sometimes we need a break and a breather, and then come back.
same with the dog being tied up, if I walked my dog in a field and saw another tied to a bench, I’d just assume the owner was nearby, maybe in a bush having a wee or something silly like that. I wouldn’t admittedly think it’s been abandoned and anything sinister.
there’s no scuffle, no sign of a fight, no sign of her in the river, so not automatically a police investigation

WheresMyAlex · 08/02/2023 12:02

@DuchessOfDisco The ‘wait 24hrs before you report an adult missing’ is a myth, if it’s out of character or there is a chance they may have come to harm, the police will start looking straight away.

But my point is that at least four other people were walking in that area during the 35 minutes Nicola was there. Suddenly after the phone and dog was found no one else noticed a tied up dog and a phone left on a bench. It doesn't make sense. The police were there in the afternoon so obviously were on high alert.

gold22 · 08/02/2023 12:03

@Blessedwithsunshine do you have any reputable sources or is that just your opinion and guesses?

validusername2 · 08/02/2023 12:03

SpecialOPs · 08/02/2023 10:51

Absolutely chilling to think that Nicola was potentially held nearby going through a horrific ordeal while the police were focussing on the river.

It's clear she's not in the water, the chance of her disappearing by choice is zero so what is the only feasible conclusion that is left?

How is it clear that she is not in the water.

I cannot see how more people do not consider the most likely option that she is in the water.

No. I wouldn’t drop my phone on the floor, leave my dog to run lose and potentially be hit by a car outside of the walking area and just take a ‘breather’ no, not even if I was beyond bereft and distressed.

The specialist diver himself doesn't believe she is in the water

What sources would you like? The dog was bone dry.

If she has been kidnapped those police are going to be in the shit

I don’t think the police care.

Have the police alluded to there being a “sensitive context” that they are not going to divulge to the public?

This might be a reason they believe she has come to harm. Maybe also why PA called the police immediately (before going down to look for her?) - he may have said she was unsettled. Or maybe she has a medical condition that could cause collapse but they don’t want to breach medical privacy?

I can’t see how people can’t look beyond the obvious.

WheresMyAlex · 08/02/2023 12:06

I’ve seen lots of comments about the phone being on the floor, has it been reported that the phone was found on the floor and placed on the bench by a passer by? I haven’t seen that reported, I thought the phone was found on the bench?

itsnote · 08/02/2023 12:06

@Blessedwithsunshine if you were "beyond bereft and distressed" you've no idea how you would behave. Why are you talking about being hit by cars in a field? Confused

No, but they have publicly confirmed they believe the public is not at risk, there is no foul play and she is likely to be in the river. That is a shit load of baseless assumptions without a shred of supporting evidence.

Dogs can run home or try to, ours do when they occasionally get lost in the fields near us. I don’t know of any dog owner that would risk it deliberately.

I don’t believe anyone would leave their phone, mid call and just walk off unless they had planned to disappear. The police seem to think that scenario is unlikely.
