It just seems very unlikely you’d fall in being fit and healthy, and furthermore then be unable to get out. And on top of that, if that did happen, for the body to then not be in the area. That doesn’t make sense

Most people who drown never intend to enter the water - they do so accidentally. Most people who drown in the U.K. can swim. Rivers can be highly variable. Even an apparently slow river can have fast-flowing channels.

I don’t know whether she entered the river, but people who think they know for sure what can or cannot have happened are deluding themselves.

Agreed but the area where she’s supposedly fell in is shallow and not much current. I could understand it if she’d fell further down where it flows rapidly.

I’m saying the odds of 1. Falling in 2. Being unable to get out 3. Nobody seeing anything and 4. If all that happens, then being unable to find the body with the sophisticated sonar equipment. It seems like a long shot

I could understand it if she’s fainted or something and fell in and drowned, but that seems even more unlikely

Catstaps · 08/02/2023 20:06

Should have been sealed off immediately..local places farms etc. searched and questioned..forensics in.. the police have messed up

confusedlots · 08/02/2023 20:06

There is no possible scenario that makes any sense, which I guess is why everyone is so baffled by the case.

If the partner/sister were involved then why would they be out saying that they didn't think she was in the river? Surely they would be wanting people and the police to think she'd fallen in the river accidentally and the body potentially washed out to sea and never found.

If it wasn't Nicola on the walk that morning, that would have been a very risky thing to do, too much of a chance of someone noticing.

I can't see how someone would have attacked/abducted her. Surely someone would have heard something and it seems like it would have been some distance to get her back to a car or van parked up somewhere.

And lots of details are very unsettling, although clearly we don't know how much is true. There are reports she split with her partner a few weeks ago. It is well know that the period when someone is planning to or has just left a partner is the highest risk in domestic violence cases. Was the partner still living at the house or had he moved out?

There are reports that the children were being babysat by relatives the evening before and that Nicola messaged to say she'd be longer than expected. Did she definitely come home that evening? Where was she?

She was a regular poster on Facebook, posting lots of family pictures. But this went silent from the middle of December. No Christmas photos, nothing. What was going on in those past few months in her life?

Given that there seemed to be some unhappy stuff going on in her life, I think the chances of her accidentally falling in the river and drowning are slim. Maybe she did take her own life, but why have they not found a body yet?

If the partner did have any involvement, I do hope those 2 little girls remain safe.

Catstaps · 08/02/2023 20:08

Unless someone she knew approached her and asked her to come and have a chat somewhere nearby. Then returned her phone and dog to bench .

That would actually make sense - she got into difficulty looking for her phone that she had accidentally dropped? She knew it was connected to her meeting so more panic, trying to find it.

My mum once stepped into traffic when she thought she'd lost her purse - she panicked totally after we left a shop and crossed the road, she literally turned on her heel back into oncoming traffic - I instinctively grabbed her - we laugh about it now but I was terrified at the time that she nearly got hit by a car, because of a missing purse!

And she had the purse all along. 🙄

How old was your mum? As the phone was sat on the bench?its difficult to believe someone Nicolas age was so utterly confused, she placed the phone on the bench, panicked, and them drowned in 12 inches of water.

I get you think it makes sense though. You and your fellow, poster. But I think for everyone else it seems unlikely.

Walkinmeshoes · 08/02/2023 20:08

This is an interesting thread on Reddit apart from the sprinkling of conspiracy theorists.

There is a good point about the bank collapsing due to being undercut by the current.
Apparently this has happened locally recently. Maybe that's how she fell in ?

Plitvice · 08/02/2023 20:09

Her partner was at home throughout the time she was missing. They had indoor cctv and he mainly wfh as the Police are aware.

I wonder if he's just exhausted with the scrutiny.

It would be understandable.
Must have been hard not agreeing with what the police said either.

No they aren’t. On,y the police divers are.and they are not rhe ones with the more relevant experience.

Yes they are. Mr Expert is a private contractor who carries out the same task that the North West Police team do (less some of their duties I understand) over a smaller area for a number of police forces. His employees are no more skilled at wading up rivers than the police are and certainly have less knowledge of the particular conditions of the Wyre and of Morecambe Bay.

The area the North West Police unit cover is massive and particularly wet.

The phone was not placed on the bench by Nicola. It was found on the ground.

That is not how a missing person enquiry is dealt with. Honest to god, posters don’t have a clue what they are talking about.

melonraspberry · 08/02/2023 20:12

I’ve reported some of the accusatory posts.

every now and then this thread goes weird and we get an influx of new posters .

Catstaps · 08/02/2023 20:12

It shouldn’t have been assumed to be a missing persons though

Given the number of inconsistencies immediately obvious to anyone, the police should have elevated the case.

It was a while ago! She would have been around 50. But she is one to panic.

I do see it's a stretch, and really I have absolutely no idea truly how she could have fallen in. But with many accidents people are left with a 'what the hell?' aftershock, it could have been a complete freak accident that we can't even think of - I do think it's more likely that she sadly drowned than any of the other possibilities.

I really, really hope they find something more soon. Anything.

Everyone seems to be in agreement that if Nicola had entered the water in the area of the water, she would still be around that location at the time the initial search was conducted by this team with more knowledge of the local area, yet she wasn't found by them. So what can we conclude from that?

Does nobody read comments on here ?

It's been mentioned that there is a 15 ft deep hole (approx 40 ft long) in the middle of the river directly opposite the bench 🙄

Elevated it to what? You genuinely don’t know what you are talking about and I’m embarrassed to be reading your posts. The fact she has not be found does not change it to a criminal investigation.

You should tell them what they're doing wrong. I'm sure they'll appreciate the help.
