The link above from the independent shows a message Nicola posted about her ‘spooky’ walk along the very same route.

It is significant.

Seemingly the police are not following anything up (at least not on the face of it)

I feel sorry for the people who feel its safe to walk early on a winters morning by them selves in a quiet place. According to that theory murderers, pedo types etc only visit cities.

I would rather be proved wrong then dead!

It was 9am! And not even deserted. I walk around my local commons all the time and don’t see a soul. The odds are remote. Far more likely to fall down the stairs at home or have a car accident .

melonraspberry · 08/02/2023 19:42

@Blessedwithsunshine she posted that on a foggy day. It’s not relevant

JaneJeffer · 08/02/2023 19:42

@smileladiesplease you're the one making personal attacks

And I feel sorry for people with such a poor understanding of risk that they allow an incredibly rare event to dictate their choices.

Even if there is a crime here, stranger abduction of an adult is unbelievably rare in any situation, but especially a rural public place in broad daylight. Women are far, far more likely to be attacked by household members than strangers. If you’re that worried about being attacked, logically you would spend all your time outside- it’s statistically much safer than indoors for a woman.

Hellybelly84 · 08/02/2023 19:43

Its been widely shared in the media - its pics of a foggy walk by the river and she has titled it something along the lines of ‘spooky walk’. I would write something like that if I was walking through a foggy forest on my own (I would hate that so I dont think it means anything e.g. a stalker). Im pretty sure she wouldn’t take her dog back there on her own if she was being stalked (just my opinion).

Hope the family get the breakthrough they desperately need soon ❤️

Interesting to see if the police come up with anything on the 700 cars leaving the area they have traced from CCTV and have written to apparently.

I thought it was a small village, is it really that busy?

As if anyone who MAY have taken her are going to write back and say, yeah, it's a fair cop gov.

They'd have to forensically inspect all of the cars too to be able to rule them out.

It's an impossible task which is why they've probably shied away from it being a crime. Also buys them more time I suppose.

It's a very small community but through it is a very busy road. One direction takes you to Blackpool, the other to Lancaster or Preston.
The road is horrible to cross on foot.
St michaels is basically just some streets off a main road. There isn't even a shop, just a pub and a really old garage.
There is a post office pop up in the village hall once a week.

I'm not sure why some are absolutely convinced she didn't fall in the water.

TheVanguardSix · 08/02/2023 19:43

It's easy to say "oh I'd call the police" but not everyone is the same

So true. In our local, everyday setting, where we know the lay of the land and our collective habits, we tend to assume that a bit of an unusual situation is very likely benign (because usually it is!).

Blessedwithsunshine · 08/02/2023 19:13

So if you would immediately call the police knowing a phone was on the ground and a dog was on the loose why didn’t the finder immediately call the police?

I was responding to comments about Nicola's partner calling the police straight away and people saying wouldn't you go and look for her yourself first. Not talking about the original person who found the dog and phone.

If I saw a loose dog I would assume it was a lost dog, not lost owner. Same with a phone. Both together is a bit more weird but I don't want to get into criticising the person who found willow and the phone. Hindsight is always 20/20

MucozadeOnLucozade · 08/02/2023 19:44

The non working camera located at the campsite ... Why is it looking out and pointing towards public land as far as the river?

puppacup · 08/02/2023 19:43

I'm not sure why some are absolutely convinced she didn't fall in the water.

Because the specialist dive team say she isn't in the water and don't believe she was ever in the water.

It’s not just “debate” though is it when innocent people start getting blamed. It’s like when those university students in America got murdered and everyone from the roommates to the teachers were getting slandered online because people fancied themselves detectives. Luckily, a lot of those people who were falsely accused have sued.

There’s been a few comments I’ve read today which were slightly over the line but on the whole people have been pretty respectful. I certainly wouldn’t accuse anyone of anything, we don’t have all the facts. I think it’s reasonable for people to ask why did this person do that or this though.

In a way it’s helpful because a few have said it’s dodgy the person who found the dog took a while to report but that’s been countered by others explaining why that might be. It actually makes people think more and keep an open mind rather than starting to suspect people

Have you got a link/photo?

Presumably the police are looking at who has gun licences around there .

Blessedwithsunshine · 08/02/2023 19:19

There wouldn’t be so much speculation if the police had opened a proper investigation in the first place!!

They have been investigating from the start. All your posts just show you don’t have a clue about the work that goes into missing persons and criminal investigations. That’s understandable that you don’t, but don’t pretend you know what you are talking about

Blessedwithsunshine · 08/02/2023 19:48

melonraspberry · 08/02/2023 19:42

@Blessedwithsunshine she posted that on a foggy day. It’s not relevant

We don’t know she was talking about the fog, again that was an assumption. It might have been a feeling she had.

I was burgled whilst at home a few years ago. I remember distinctly being outside ( I was pregnant) and feeling something was not right, a spooky feeling came over me. I dismissed it as most people do. I was broken into 2 days later as they tried to steal the car and didn’t know I was upstairs. Apparently they had been ‘casing’ the joint a few days before.

I don’t think anything should be dismissed.

melonraspberry · 08/02/2023 19:49

I think the finder has a dog so it would have been difficult to take another dog back with her. Maybe she didn’t think anything of it but then when she mentioned it to her family member they did see it as concern. How did she know whose phone it was? Dogs like that are ten a penny around here .

MourningTea · 08/02/2023 19:49

On the dog front she found a dog by itself in a popular walking area, maybe she thought of tying the dog up rather than taking it because the owner might come across it easier if they were nearby. Just a thought?
At the time maybe it felt the best thing to do.

Because the specialist dive team say she isn't in the water and don't believe she was ever in the water.

The local specialist dive team - the ones with more, and more relevant, experience - are still searching though.

You'd have heard a gun surely?
I can't imagine anyone's been shot

Plitvice · 08/02/2023 19:50

People do have those kinds of premonitions. I get them too. However, she never felt compelled to stop walking there so she probably never attached too much importance to it beyond captioning that photo.

Goldpaw · 08/02/2023 19:50

In a way it’s helpful because a few have said it’s dodgy the person who found the dog took a while to report but that’s been countered by others explaining why that might be. It actually makes people think more and keep an open mind rather than starting to suspect people

Agreed.

I've said I'd probably think something was amiss, but if it happened on one of my regular canal walks, I'd probably pick everything up and walk back to my car with the dog and see if anyone appeared, then maybe tie the dog up and go to the nearby house to ask them about the dog. Then I'd probably call 101 because it's in my nature to do that.

We're all different and reading other people's opinions on here emphasises this because depending on our nature we may do different things.

Whichusernametocreate · 08/02/2023 19:50

It’s just all so odd..how the phone was on the floor etc..I originally thought she’d fallen in the river, how I don’t know, but now it just all seems so odd

dawngreen · 08/02/2023 19:51

Saying what my reaction would have been in that situation, and what I expected to happen in that situation is totally different to saying some one by name did it??

I think she has drowned but I just don't understand where she went in.
