I couldn't see another post so thought I'd create one.

There is a police press conference this afternoon. I can't see a time for this but it's sounding like a routine one.

One thing I don't get that I've seen on the news etc she was walking west to east, someone saw her at an easterly point in a field, but the phone was found on the bench as if she'd walked westerly back to the bench. I hope that makes sense. No one in the news has said anything about doubling back on herself. It strikes me as odd is all.

She'd have had to return back the way she came to get back to her car.

Plus, if it is true, as I just read, that the riverbank and bench have not been sealed off, then all public criticism of the police establishing a potential crime scene are fair enough!

No they weren't sealed off. At least one TV reporter did a piece to camera sat on the bench, which there have been reports of other people visiting and taking selfies. Any evidence will have been destroyed by now and anything that is found will be completely inadmissable in court, should it ever come to that.

One local described it as a "circus" there over the weekend IIRC

Plitvice · 07/02/2023 14:47

I think the communication between the police and media hasn't been good enough. For example, they could have said upfront that the couple mostly worked from home and have cctv so her partner is completely eliminated as a suspect. It would have prevented that speculation. It took for her friend to state even facts in a tabloid to get the information across to the public.

Viviennemary · 07/02/2023 14:47

How do they even know the phone was placed on the bench at 9.20. I agree some of it doesnt make a lot of sense.

Aren't people allowed to discuss current events at the bus stop? How do you know they were "vile"? And why is it relevant that these women were old?

Plitvice · 07/02/2023 14:48

I think they can tell from cell triangulation. What they can't tell is who placed it there. They've assumed it was NB, but there is no evidence for that.

Oh I see. I thought someone had said it was circular walk she did regularly, I must have mis heard or misremembered.

It's human nature to try to make sense of things and with widespread coverage comes widespread speculation.

Beaglesonlyplease · 07/02/2023 14:49

The thing is, if something is reported in the news/media people will discuss it. Whatever it is.
it’s not that long ago MN was full of Harry threads.
It isn’t vile to discuss this case, even if the family would prefer they didn’t come under suspicion or faced questions from the media.
If she has chosen to walk out on her life that would be tragic for her family and if she was abducted, terrifying for the public.
We are hearing almost weekly cases about police sexual attacks and other police misconduct so it’s not often that people just interfere in police investigations for interference sake or for ghoulish reasons.
But obviously the most important thing is that she is found, provided it isn’t that she has left voluntarily

BluIsTheColor · 07/02/2023 14:50

The police have said they were asking for drivers with dashcam footage from Garston lane to come forward.
Have they done a door to door check to see if anyone has Ring doorbell footage?

Yes, the last police report said they have done door to door

Hope that means they found her

Allgoodthings1 · 07/02/2023 14:52

Someone had posted her strava walks somewhere that I saw and it seems she usually goes round the outside of the field/fields and in only 2 of the 15 walks she went near the bench area. I just don’t see that she’s fell in and it’s now heartbreaking as unless there’s some major breakthrough on where else she could be that hasn’t been established in the last 11 days it looks like they’re at a brick wall 😢 So
praying this isn’t another Claudia Lawrence type case

The only thing I'm thinking is it may be possible to have established when the phone was last accessed? So if say Nicolas fingerprint or facial recognition unlocked the phone in the minutes leading up to 9:20 there is a good probability that it was Nicola who put the phone on the bench? Or was at least in the vicinity at the time?

If she was on a Teams meeting then the app keeps the device "open" from logging in to the meeting until you log out. Or all versions of the software that I use do. What I found more odd was that there was a report that she was on mute and with her camera off the whole time of the meeting. Nowhere I know would allow that, and it seems rather odd that they did. You may as well not be in a meeting if you don't have any participation at all.

The walk around the field is circular, the walk to the field isn't. There are apparently ways she could have made it circular but that would have taken her in the wrong direction and meant walking along the road for further, instead of a nice walk along the river path. That's not to say that wasn't what she normally did - obviously I don't know. But it makes sense to walk to the field, walk around it and then return the same way.

kirinm · 07/02/2023 14:54

I almost always attend meetings with the mic and camera off. Not all meetings require individual involvement.

ofwarren · 07/02/2023 14:54

Are they still saying the phone was NEXT TO the bench rather than on it initially?

Thanks for explaing confounded. I agree no evidence who placed it there. I wonder what the press conference will have to say.,probably just something vague like leads being followed re witnesses and so on. And asking folk not to speculate. Dont think there eill be any revelations.

Nonsense.
Half our meetings are like that.

Namechangedforthis234 · 07/02/2023 14:55

Really hoping the police will not start to give up. I felt a bit worried when Nicola wasn't on the news this morning.

Hellybelly84 · 07/02/2023 14:55

If I was the family, I’d rather it be discussed (in a respectful way) than forgotten about. Compared to other missing person cases, this one is getting an incredible amount of publicity which I can imagine the family are grateful for (not including horrible comments made on Twitter ofcourse but that happens with any case). The fact that she is a Mum, doing what so many of us do every week, going about her normal life, has really hit home with alot of people just how precious life is and how everything can be turned upside down in a minute. I really hope there’s a miracle and the little girl’s get their Mum back.

Return2thebasic · 07/02/2023 14:55

It shouldn't be difficult to assess if she walked out on her life. There will be records of research to do with the arrangement either in her web browser history or phone call record with someone unusually frequent and long. I still think she's not someone who's capable to cover up every trace of it, physically and virtually. Even though, I'd wish it's the case and she's safe and alive somewhere else...

That's very common in some work places. Sometimes you have to go on a teams call with hundreds of others and there's no expectation to interact. On any teams call, unless you are speaking, you pretty much have to be on mute to stop distracting people with your background noise. And I rarely have my camera on, although I know some workplace cultures insist on it.

I don't think there is anything out of the ordinary about the teams call, it's one of the least concerning bits of all this.
