I couldn't see another post so thought I'd create one.

There is a police press conference this afternoon. I can't see a time for this but it's sounding like a routine one.

These things are nearly always delayed to be fair,

Fair enough.

pinkhousesarebest · 07/02/2023 15:44

I heard some vile old women jabbering away about it the other day
Oh the irony.

The mirror are live on fbook. Lots of journalists laughing and chatting in the background. I don't know if they know that camera is running

What do you expect them to do, sit in revered silence with their head's bowed?

Of course they're going to be chit chatting until the press conference starts.

RubyPip · 07/02/2023 15:44

I saw a twitter feed with the following suggestions:

  1. accident in/by the river (not looking likely, no evidence)
  2. murdered by someone she knows (by who? Why? How?)
  3. has intentionally gone missing (how? Why?)
  4. she's complicit in a scam, she's safe and well (I doubt it)
  5. she's not complicit, it's a kidnap (unlikely kidnap victim, surely?)
  6. she's been taken by a stranger and has been killed
  7. she's been taken by a stranger and is still with him, but alive

I don't think it's offensive at all to talk about it.

We just feel for her and her family and we're trying to make sense of it. So sad and baffling. If only her dog could talk!!!

Glueguns · 07/02/2023 15:44

So sad :(

Exactly! Imagine they find the body and it’s accidentally broadcast. I know it’s an interesting case but people go missing everyday.. where is the care and attention on them?

Each case is different, most missing people return home within a short period of time. This case is different, a woman vanished into thin air after dropping her kids of at a village school, her phone is found in an unexpected place, her poor dog was running around distressed without her owner, the woman was logged onto a Teams call and vanished during bright day light within a very short time window. There is a river but everything points to her not being in the river, yet police insist she is. There is so much in this particular case that's unusual and rather disturbing.

I think it’s come time to reasonably assume she didn’t fall into the river and drown. So the police need to say they are continuing to examine all avenues but still searching the river and banks.

if she didn’t fall in and drown though it means it is hugely likely someone, which could be her or not, placed that stuff and the dog there to misdirect the police . As said on the other thread, it feels staged to me.

I saw someone on Twitter wrote, if she didn’t accidentally drown, it limits the options to four.

she was abducted/murdered by someone.
shes decided to disappear and doesn’t wish to be found.
it’s a scam, like Shannon Mathews, hence the 100k go fund me, and she’s part of it.
its a mix of the first and third,,it’s a scam, like Shannon Mathews, hence the 100k go fund me, but she’s not part of it, and some one has hurt her then tried to get money,

and I think I agree. I can’t think of another option, so if she didn’t fall in and drown, it’s likely one of those four options.

another could be that she fell in but the body was taken away from the river afterwards. There was no police taping off the site in the early days.

itsnote · 07/02/2023 15:47

But they're getting slated for it and I think they're unaware that camera is streaming live. The woman testing the microphones was having a good old giggle and probably wouldn't have done

Activelyannoyed · 07/02/2023 15:50

Mummyoflittledragon · 07/02/2023 15:43

Part of me wants it to be option 2, ie she decided to disappear as she’d hopefully be safe. But I can’t stop thinking about her family in that scenario. I couldn’t do it.

As she would in option 3, it’s a scam she’s in on.

the police are under huge pressure watching this press conference, this officer seems to be just defending their actions. As last time she was all she’s defo fallen in the river.

RoseMadderAsHell · 07/02/2023 15:50

Posters on Twitter are saying that the police have ruled out her leaving the park because the gates are covered by CCTV and been checked.

Although I think the most likely scenario is that she's in the river, there must be other ways out. A country park wouldn't be sealed up like Fort Knox.

Every park I've ever been in with my dog has had bushes/trees around the boundary with gaps that can be squeezed through, and fences that can be easily climbed.

KitesFlyHigh · 07/02/2023 15:52

I think if she was in the river at least an item of clothing would have been found by now.

melonraspberry · 07/02/2023 15:53

The presser is just a defence of their police work .

the pressure must be horrendous

Is is Superintendent Riley again? Will be interesting to see if Peter Faulding is asked for his opinion....

melonraspberry · 07/02/2023 15:53

They still believe she fell in.

TroysMammy · 07/02/2023 15:53

If the phone was a decoy what is the Wi-Fi signal like in that area? Would she have a good signal for a Teams meeting? Are the times on the cctv correct? Mine is 5 minutes fast and when the clocks to forward it's an hour and 5 minutes behind. If I knew how to change the time I would but I tie myself in knots trying to work out the time between March and October.

ofwarren · 07/02/2023 15:19

No
The diver just said it was a possibility based on cases he's attended before

OK, so your hypothesis is that between 9.10 and 9.20 someone abducted Nicola, rounded up her dog and delivered it plus phone to the riverbank bench? All in 10 min?

Viviennemary · 07/02/2023 15:55

Yes. Police chief saying still the police believe Nicola fell into the river but are open to other lines of enquiry. And asking people not to speculate

davegrohll · 07/02/2023 15:56

If she has sadly fallen in the river, wouldn't an item of clothing have been found by now if not her body ?

She’s referenced his company by name as a partner a couple of times.

The police officer speaking there (sorry I don't know her proper title) looks like she hasn't sleep for a week

davegrohll · 07/02/2023 15:57

There is no evidence that she was ever at the bench is there, so it's just being presumed she was because of the phone and dog, but surely that's not hard enough evidence ?

kirinm · 07/02/2023 15:57

I honestly thought they must've found her to have called the press conference.

Her poor family.

prh47bridge · 07/02/2023 15:57

From previous thread:

I just don’t know how many ‘presumed drowning’ in a 100 mile? radius would be considered ‘normal’.

Including suicides, around 600 people a year die by drowning in the UK - almost 2 a day. So, in a 100-mile radius you would expect something like 4 or 5 a week.
