I couldn't see another post so thought I'd create one.

There is a police press conference this afternoon. I can't see a time for this but it's sounding like a routine one.

Did she enter the fields via the route not covered by CCTV as well as going missing in the part not covered by CCTV? Because the thing that confuses me is they have released CCTV images of the 2 people in the area they thought could be potential witnesses, but the CCTV images of Nicola were taken from her ring doorbell. Was she not picked up on any CCTV or recording equipment for her entire journey from school to the fields? That would seem strange in itself.

Yes
That's the closest path to the river once you have dropped off at school

It's a worry they're now saying the phone could be a decoy.

I hope if she's been taken/taken herself off that she's found very soon. Those poor little girls & her family/friends.

Are the police saying this ?

If she was on a Teams meeting then the app keeps the device "open" from logging in to the meeting until you log out. Or all versions of the software that I use do. What I found more odd was that there was a report that she was on mute and with her camera off the whole time of the meeting. Nowhere I know would allow that, and it seems rather odd that they did. You may as well not be in a meeting if you don't have any participation at all.

My husband (working from home) has many Teams meetings. He never puts on video and I often find him in the kitchen making coffee or a sandwich and telling me he's in the middle of a boring meeting (phone upstairs in his office)

I heard two vile old women jabbering away about it the other day

'I heard two people chatting about it the other day'. There. Fixed it for you.

VariantHela · 07/02/2023 15:17

Are the police saying this ?

No
The diver just said it was a possibility based on cases he's attended before

Thank you for clarifying that for me.

Obviously this case is bizarre and peaked interest and of course people are keen for updates but I find live streaming a team searching for a body quite unnecessary.

Exactly! Imagine they find the body and it’s accidentally broadcast. I know it’s an interesting case but people go missing everyday.. where is the care and attention on them?

tara66 · 07/02/2023 15:20

Re ''the amount of interest is kind of sickening..'' etc - the police and journalists have put the case out to the public with the hope the more this is known about - the sooner someone miles away may note a clue she's been kidnapped or something. Generating a lot of interest is part of trying to find her.

For the people saying that the police need to announce that they’re changing the course of their investigation, they’ve never said that they have abandoned all other avenues, simply that they currently have no evidence to suspect a third party involvement. But all along they have continued to appeal for witnesses, they have continued to seek footage, but the greatest likelihood is that she has gone into the river, and so it’s natural that they have made that their primary investigation.

They won’t make this a criminal enquiry because there is no evidence of a crime.

In the case of e.g. Susie Lamploo and Claudia Lawrence, while there wasn’t direct evidence, there was a lot of supposition and implication, i.e. Susie went to to meet someone and disappeared from there hence the assumption of a third party, and Claudia Lawrence led a complicated life and as such there were a lot of question marks over the people she associated with who could have meant her harm.

But in NB’s case there is nothing to assume any of that. If anything emerges to imply a crime such as e.g. clothing, or blood, then they can change the course of the investigation. But right now there is none of that, which is why it can’t be considered a criminal investigation.

It's human nature to discuss this kind of thing.

On a very base level, we want to solve puzzles.

And on a deeper level we're mostly women here, a good percentage of us having kids, or regularly walking dogs in the countryside, and we want to know that a fellow woman is safe, and that we'll be safe too.

Agree.

Zonder · 07/02/2023 15:27

For the people saying that the police need to announce that they’re changing the course of their investigation, they’ve never said that they have abandoned all other avenues

And of course the police don't need to announce anything.

Every teams meeting I’ve been on has had people on mute without camera. Several different companies. It’s distracting otherwise.

SolitaryRedFox · 07/02/2023 15:32

It is very very normal in a lot of industries to log into a call, never announce yourself, be on mute the entire time and not have camera on. Tonnes of my calls are like this. Some calls auto mute you, so you can't speak and cause background noise. All the the other participants would see, typically, is that you are logged in and on mute. No one would actively check when you log in and log out. Any speculation around the call being 'strange' is a red herring.

I used to do that all the time. I went for an interview once and the guy interviewing said he did his ironing.

Activelyannoyed · 07/02/2023 15:33

I think it’s come time to reasonably assume she didn’t fall into the river and drown. So the police need to say they are continuing to examine all avenues but still searching the river and banks.

if she didn’t fall in and drown though it means it is hugely likely someone, which could be her or not, placed that stuff and the dog there to misdirect the police . As said on the other thread, it feels staged to me.

I saw someone on Twitter wrote, if she didn’t accidentally drown, it limits the options to four.

she was abducted/murdered by someone.
shes decided to disappear and doesn’t wish to be found.
it’s a scam, like Shannon Mathews, hence the 100k go fund me, and she’s part of it.
its a mix of the first and third,,it’s a scam, like Shannon Mathews, hence the 100k go fund me, but she’s not part of it, and some one has hurt her then tried to get money,

and I think I agree. I can’t think of another option, so if she didn’t fall in and drown, it’s likely one of those four options.

Allgoodthings1 · 07/02/2023 15:34

Seems to be after 3:30.. thought sky news wasn’t showing it as so much else is happening but it’s on after the break

itsnote · 07/02/2023 15:36

The mirror are live on fbook. Lots of journalists laughing and chatting in the background. I don't know if they know that camera is running

User45378754 · 07/02/2023 15:39

Odd for it to be delayed by 10 mins?

Will it be on bbc news?

These things are nearly always delayed to be fair,

30yearsYounger · 07/02/2023 15:43

User45378754 · 07/02/2023 15:39

Odd for it to be delayed by 10 mins?

Not necessarily. All it takes is for something else to happen somewhere else. A serious road accident or similar which would pull resources to that area etc.

This isn’t the only ongoing case, and if it’s just a generic update there are possibly other completely unrelated reasons for a delay.

Part of me wants it to be option 2, ie she decided to disappear as she’d hopefully be safe. But I can’t stop thinking about her family in that scenario. I couldn’t do it.
