I couldn't see another post so thought I'd create one.

There is a police press conference this afternoon. I can't see a time for this but it's sounding like a routine one.

I really hope the family get answers soon x

A young girl missing down the road
Obviously most likely not related but it's such a worry.

Apologies if this has been asked before, I'm new to the thread, but I just saw on the news that they're trying to account for the 10 minute window between her phone being placed on the bench (9.20) and it being found just after 9.30. Seems a bit of an assumption that it was her that put the phone on the bench? Why is it not the 20 minute window after the last confirmed sighting at 9.10?

Excellent point, can't get my head around that either. In my mind it's more like a 25 min window

Catingle · 07/02/2023 14:28

The SGI search guy must be very confident he can conclude this one way or the other - by going so public with his involvement he’s staked his reputation on this.

I hope he is right to be so confident and it’s not just hubris.

Presumably that's why they're searching upstream from the bench. In case she entered the river further up and somebody else brought her phone etc back to the bench.

There's always kids going missing round here, she will probably be found at one of her friends houses.

Yes indeed, it does seem like a much wider window doesn't it ?

More than likely, fingers crossed
I can hear the helicopter too. Possibly looking for the girl.

I think they need to open the timeframe up from when she was last actually seen to the point in time the police show up.

If the investigation is now moving away from the river theory. The police need to say that. It might help witnesses from further afield to come forward.

Maybe I can't see where it is at I'm in in Poulton.

Can't stop thinking about her poor children

Plitvice · 07/02/2023 14:36

I think the sonar expert has been perceived as taking over their role so they need to reestablish themselves as the vehicle for conveying info. I know he is an expert who works closely with various police forces but he probably overstepped the line now and again so it's fair enough.

Bluekerfuffle · 07/02/2023 14:37

Not sure why people are getting so ratty about defending the diver. His book is neither here nor there, I agree, but it seemed a bit off to have criticised the police before even getting there and knowing everything they had done or knew and taking it as a given the dog would be howling at the waters edge if it’s owner had gone in. I mean, it wouldn’t if it hadn’t seen it, which is always a possibility.

The only thing I'm thinking is it may be possible to have established when the phone was last accessed? So if say Nicolas fingerprint or facial recognition unlocked the phone in the minutes leading up to 9:20 there is a good probability that it was Nicola who put the phone on the bench? Or was at least in the vicinity at the time?

coteliq · 07/02/2023 14:39

I think the press conference is used to save time spent on interviews with PF as he seems to be answering the same questions from different media channels over and over again.

I guess PF + police will say they have not found her in that stretch of river but there is no evidence to suggest an alternative to the leading hypothesis that she did not leave the river bank.

So the search will continue in the river.

Frightening. This is pretty clear image of the man who attacked a woman jogger in Barrowford recently, surely he will be found? Most likely not related to NB's disappearance as it happened an hour away.

I hope there are some savvy journalists who are able to ask some very specific questions at the press conference. I agree it will just be routine.

I suspect he's been finding it hard to hide his frustration. Maybe he thinks the police are on the wrong track and he owes it to the missing person and her family to call it out.

I'm imaging a lot of people on this thread are jabbering away too-or is it only old women who are vile?

Have you seen twitter? It's dreadful
I'm glad these posts on here are monitored.
People on twitter think its some kind of James Bond film. People getting flight logs from the local air field etc.
People are crazy

Has he ever been seen on TV giving interviews when he worked on the other cases?
I think his heart is in the right place but he doesn't seem to have enough media training.
even if the police have been a bit crap.

Highdaysandholidays1 · 07/02/2023 14:42

I think it's entirely natural people are talking about it. It's pretty frightening, most of us have been for a walk or taken the dog out, after dropping the kids to school. She's then vanished. It's an extremely unusual case. People talked about Suzy Lamplugh for year afterwards and her wonderful parents set up the trust in her name to help other women with stalking. I think making sense of the insensible is normal.

Highdaysandholidays1 · 07/02/2023 14:44

Plus, if it is true, as I just read, that the riverbank and bench have not been sealed off, then all public criticism of the police establishing a potential crime scene are fair enough!

Plitvice · 07/02/2023 14:45

I don't use Twitter but I can imagine.

However, I don't think people should be trying to close down reasonable discussions on here on a live case where the people in charge have run out of ideas.
