He actually did it!

I've never heard of him but anyone shredding that amount of money just for a stunt is a complete twat.

PrincessJanet · 20/11/2022 17:57

That's a good question about Beckham. What's he actually doing in Qatar? Presumably he's being a pundit? For whom?

Again. More of a twat than Beckham?

I have had a look, Becham is an Ambassador for Qatar Confused. Not like a diplomat, surely? Or more like a Liz Hurley type but not for beauty but (erm, searching for words) something else?

PizzaCarpet · 20/11/2022 18:07

Again. As someone said, not either/or is it?

David Beckham is not accountable to Joe Lycett, is he?

They are both twats!

Mumrey · 20/11/2022 18:20

Beckham couldn't be a pundit to save his arse!

Yes more of a that then Beckham he's not the one who basically resorted to blackmail and in a financial crisis pulled a stunt!
Major charities including Terrace Higgins has said he should have donated it.

Beckham's argument is that he is doing it to help integrate Qatar with the rest of the world. The "be in it to change it" argument I guess. Fair enough, in which case he'll be publicly donating the £150m fee to LGB+ issues?

Beckham has always been a hypocritical, money-grabbing, cheating arse. Surely no one in the world no longer thinks that he does anything for the good of anyone else.

Didn’t Linekar say he’d take in a refugee? What happened to that?

I think he did it?

tootiredtobother · 20/11/2022 18:30

15M, 10M, its still too much money, F.....g ridiculous

Well no, but DB has taken 150 million from an evil regime to publicise them for the World Cup, JL has said he's going to burn 10k of his OWN money if he continues in this. I'm sure DB is hugely richer than Joe, I think the fact he's putting up his own money to highlight this is frankly laudable. Because it's a cause close to his heart.

Eleusa · 20/11/2022 18:33

I really like Joe Lycett and think he’s brought attention to something important. We wouldn’t be talking about it if he’d just donated the £10K.

Those who are cross about the waste- he hasn’t wasted actual goods. Taking money out of circulation reduces inflation 🙃

MarshaMelrose · 20/11/2022 18:34

At least Gary Linekar has taken in refugees.

I don't like GL but he did take 2 settled refugees in for a month whilst they were waiting to go to university.

David Beckham charged a charity for costs he'd never incurred. How anyone could say he's better than JL boggles the mind.

The point is, that it has to be shocking. Are you more concerned at Lycett shredding £10k of his own money OR Beckham validating Qatar on the world stage in returning for pocketing £150m to his already huge wealth.

What's more shocking?

I am not a Lycett fan, but I think that this is a very effective protest.

But it hasn't achieved anything. I don't honk any more people are aware of Qatar human rights violations now than before the stunt.

Eleusa · 20/11/2022 18:41

A difference between Beckham and Lineker is that Beckham is actively promoting Qatar. Lineker is reporting on games that happen to be played there. You can object to both if you wish but they’re not the same.

EngTech · 20/11/2022 18:44

His money, his choice

On the other side, Sir Rod Stewart declined not to accept the offer to go there 👍👍

Abraxan · 20/11/2022 18:47

If it is genuine then I am afraid I can't get behind it, whatever reasons he believes he has for it.

To waste that amount of money when people is this country let alone across the world, are struggling so much is awful.

Hopefully it was another stunt.

Unlike Robbie Williams. Who apparently suffers from the same level of discrimination and harassment and ill treatment in his own kitchen. 🤔

Pixiedust1234 · 20/11/2022 18:47

Name me one person who would give up a multimillion pound wage packet for a few thousand pounds? It was intentionally designed so Beckham wouldn't take the offer. Which shows what a nasty, deceitful and manipulative person Lycett is.

Jobsagoodun1 · 20/11/2022 18:48

Tbh, Peter Tatchell has done more just by going out there and protesting with a sign. Could you imagine a female going there on her own and protesting?
Lycett is hiding behind a camera.

But who has gained more publicity?

MissBattleaxe · 20/11/2022 18:51

He should have donated it to human rights charity like Amnesty
