He actually did it!

BurscoughBooths · 20/11/2022 13:54

If it was real money, he’s a fool

BadlydoneHelen · 20/11/2022 13:54

What an idiot is my first thought

PrincessJanet · 20/11/2022 13:55

Beckham's argument is that he is doing it to help integrate Qatar with the rest of the world. The "be in it to change it" argument I guess. Fair enough, in which case he'll be publicly donating the £150m fee to LGB+ issues?

OP posts:
Ponesta · 20/11/2022 13:55

Surely it can't be real money? Even if it's his that's a terrible waste.

BadlydoneHelen · 20/11/2022 13:56

I wonder if he has a tour coming up? £10000 is cheap national publicity

Allmarbleslost · 20/11/2022 13:57

What a knob.

Wideawakeandconfused · 20/11/2022 13:57

£10k is a ‘cheap’ investment for the amount of exposure he’s created. Good for him

This.

Many a charity would have been glad to have that money. Better that than a cheap attention-grabbing publicity stunt 🤷🏼‍♀️

SisterGeorgeMichael · 20/11/2022 14:00

I used to think he was witty but he just seems like a bit of a twat nowadays.

bunpot · 20/11/2022 14:00

Bet it turns out to be a prank, like the walking out of the TV show stunt he did.

Hbh17 · 20/11/2022 14:02

What a waste. Couldn't he have donated the money to an LGBTQ+ charity?

NuffSaidSam · 20/11/2022 14:02

If it's real, it's a bit silly.

If it's fake, I guess it's ok? Although I don't really see the point.

CatJumperTwat · 20/11/2022 14:04

People are really missing the point of this one.

Nobody would have cared if the threat was "pull out of your deal or I give £10k to charity." Nobody would log in to a livestream to watch him donate £10k. Papers wouldn't have reported it.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 20/11/2022 14:04

Beckham's argument is that he is doing it to help integrate Qatar with the rest of the world

I'm pretty certain that with demonstrating they can change the rules over serving alcohol at the last minute Qatar isn't interested in Beckham's argument that they need to be integrated - as if they were some third world hell hole being dragged kicking and screaming into the 21c. Beckham's doing it for himself and his image, just like Wanksock in Australia is.

PrincessJanet · 20/11/2022 14:04

The point is, that it has to be shocking. Are you more concerned at Lycett shredding £10k of his own money OR Beckham validating Qatar on the world stage in returning for pocketing £150m to his already huge wealth.

What's more shocking?

I am not a Lycett fan, but I think that this is a very effective protest.

I don’t understand his point in shredding 10k? What does that have to do with protesting David Beckham?

KittensNotMittens · 20/11/2022 14:06

Both idiots. In my opinion. That money could have actually done good. The destruction won’t - people will see but won’t learn anything they didn’t already know.

was he only complaining about the lgb rights?

butterfliedtwo · 20/11/2022 14:06

Silly. Must be nice to have so much money that you can actually throw it away.

Miss03852 · 20/11/2022 14:07

£150million?! Are you sure OP? Everything I’ve read online says £10million.

Rowthe · 20/11/2022 14:07

Lycett is just another look at me attention seeker.

What does it matter if he shredded 10,000, if Beckham privately donated 100,000 of his own money?

He got what he wanted which is his name in the headlines.

Rowthe · 20/11/2022 14:09

Must be nice that you can have that much money and just shred it.

I cant understand the life or how the mind of anyone is who able to just shred that much money works.

PrincessJanet · 20/11/2022 14:11

£150million?! Are you sure OP? Everything I’ve read online says £10million.

Oh, I'm a dunce. Yes, £150m does sound a ridiculous order of magnitude. Perhaps it's £15m I read?

UWhatNow · 20/11/2022 14:11

It might have bought a fleeting 5 min ‘shock’ but it’s also a big shock to people for whom a fiver feels like a lot of money right now. Burning that amount money when many people are on the bones of their arse AND doing it to prove a point to people for whom £10k is pocket change is a bit of a lose/lose imo.

PrincessJanet · 20/11/2022 14:12

I cant understand the life or how the mind of anyone is who able to just shred that much money works.

Presumably because he feels very strongly about LGB+ rights in Qatar and considers £10k was good value for money. Arguably a far more honorable spend than the £160 I've just spent on some Doc Martens.
