Roger Bird, who is a PPE, introduced Natasha Bolter as having defected from Labour and being a PPE too.

I saw her interviewed on BBC Newsnight last night, and I did begin to wonder about Oxford and PPEs. I'm not a big fan of PPEs at the best of times, but Gordon Bennett, I thought to myself.

What's going on?

I don't know what to make of this story. Not now the texts have been published, and now this.

Was it a set up that went wrong?

Sorry - too lazy - Philosophy, politics, economics? Pottery, poetry and ergonomics?

If you are going to make up a lie, at least make up one that can't be so easily checked out.

The whole thing is very odd, whether you believe his account or hers. He is odd, and she is odd. I agree she did not impress in the interview, too.

This statement is surely the nail in the coffin for her political aspirations, if she really has claimed to have gone to Wadham.

It is also a reminder of how many UKIP candidates have burst onto the scene only to slink off not long afterwards because of scandal, fallings-out or just general weirdness.

I've said it before on here-the most compelling reason not to vote UKIP is the strange and thoroughly third-rate people they put up as candidates. The only time they get a vaguely normal person standing is when he or she has been poached from another party, and often not even then.

MonstrousRatbag, there are third-rate people in UKIP, but I think the Establishment have possibly put them in there to drop clangers at opportune moments in order to try and discredit the People's Army.

I think we will see many clangers dropped before the election and the Establishment will be laughing up its sleeve and the BBC will give them lots of headline coverage, and the BBC will be laughing up its sleeve and highfiving the Establishment.

I disagree. The People's Army prefers ordinary people, not Establishment politicians who may not really share the People's Army's goals and aspirations and may be politically correct Establishment types who would be better off staying in Establishment parties.

But I don't think anything will actually harm the People's Army, it seems to be like teflon.

And don't blame the Establishment (liking the capitalisation). If UKIP had the sort of vigorous vetting procedures any self-respecting political party should have, the fifth columnists, if that is what they are, would have been weeded out.

Why is someone like Winston McKenzie a UKIP candidate? Look him up on Wikipedia. Are UKIP that desperate for a black candidate as a fig leaf to cover their deliberate coded appeals to racism?

Yes, unless some of the people doing the vetting are Establishment fifth columnists. Politics is strange and it is very important because it is about power and the Establishment doesn't want to lose power.

I like Winston, I think he is brilliant and very funny. He is a wild card who shoots from the hip but that is why he is great. He rivals Farage. I hope they give Winston a seat that he stands a chance of winning because when it comes to "tearing up their lawns" no one could do it better than Winston. He is brilliant. But they may think he jokes too much. But we need jokers who are funny to prick the bubble of pomposity of these politically correct Oxbridge PPEs. Winston could do it. In parliament, he would tear up their lawns.

Listen to Winston at about 3.20 into this stream. It is brilliant, it is full of passion. With people like Winston we could change things. He has heart, not like these politically correct spinners in Parliament who never say anything without checking for permission first.

I don't want professional politicians any more, I want people with heart who want to change things. Winston is fantastic. With 635 MPs like him, the whole country would be transformed. No more bedroom tax, no more fat cats avoiding tax, real positive change for the people.

Only the People's Party can deliver that. The rest of the Oxford lot don't really care. They don't haveee an ounce of the passion that Winston has.

After watching her on Newsnight I instantly tried to google her credentials as she didn't sound like she had been to Oxford. She is not articulate and, even allowing for text type, her written English isn't great. She doesn't come across as bright.

If it is true that she didn't go to Oxford it makes you wonder what UKIP's vetting process is like and how they didn't check degree certificates etc. It makes you wonder who the vetters are and if they went to Oxford and did a PPE.

We have got no alternative, we have to hope UKIP are for real and are not completely Establishment controlled, although the Establishment are bound to try and put stooges in to sabotage the People's Army and save their parties.

It is sad because Essex is prime UKIP territory and they could win seats all over the county if they don't blow it and do what the Establishment want them to do.

You can do PPE at places other than Oxford.

One of my local Tory candidates is being prosecuted for fraud for claiming they were a Barrister.

You can come across as being very socially awkward but still very intelligent. Ms Bolter just came across as not that bright - especially as she said she had studied PPE. All Oxford PPE graduates will be articulate and intelligent.

Like Basildon doesn't have enough problems. Very real possibility UKIP could win here IMO . Don't think it will matter much who the candidate is.

I love Basildon, salt of the earth people but schools have been terrible for generations and immigration becoming a bigger and bigger "problem". Loads of social house building going on meaning services stretched and the feeling is that those homes aren't going to local people.

I actually don't see immigration as a problem, I think it's the reason the SE is so affluent, but I am very much in the minority round here (a pocket of non-affluence in the SE). The poor see "them" stealing their homes/jobs and the rich (well better off, Basildon doesn't have any rich) object to their taxes being spent on services for people who haven't contributed.

I was devastated when I got a UKIP councillor. An MP might push me over the edge.
