The bedlam (back)stops here - February Flylady thread for frosty fledglings

Welcome to the February Flylady thread, we’d love to have you with us as we chat and work our way through our houses in February. Flylady uses the zone method of cleaning so we’ll be focusing on a different area of the house each week – we will post daily links to the Launch Pad on the Flylady website which gives all the details of the current Zone, daily missions and babysteps.

Newbies are always welcome so feel free to join in at any time. Flylady does recommend decluttering your house first, so if you are not ready for the cleaning routines yet it’s fine to focus on the decluttering bit – add the babysteps in if you wish.

Snow finally beginning to settle where we are so it's a frosty start to February for the fledglings. February also cover a half-term break for some of us, always a challenging time in house terms!

The first link to the launch pad is here Launch Pad so join us in banning bedlam and chaos!

Stay safe and warm, everyone!

Gah! Time to get up (6.30 am here) been awake most of the night (again). Hate the * menopause!

MeetOnTheledge · 01/02/2019 06:20

Morning! .

I am lying in bed with a cuppa and the curtains open looking out at a snowy landscape. Don't think any of us will be going far today.

MeetOnTheledge · 01/02/2019 06:22

Ooh, just spotted the hot chocolate and churros!

Thanks for Jan Hills and the new thread Sass. Just off to finish reading the old one.

Harebellmeadow · 01/02/2019 06:27

Please can i join? I need help! I am a dreadful slattern (dont mind a bit off mess) 2 DDs and a DH all mess-producing. Plus overbuyinghoarding tendencies - and my cleaning lady went off to get married. So i am ready for change.

Stilllivinginazoo · 01/02/2019 06:32

harebellmeadow welcome aboard

It's FREEZING in here (can see my breath) had cats stamping on my trying to cosy up all night
Scoutcat insisted he needed to go out at 11 and didn't return.it has now snowed..hope poor old boy found a sheltered spotSad

As much as I'm whinging about lack heating/water it's a timely reminder of those without homes.at least we have shelter from the wind...

Sproutingcorm · 01/02/2019 06:45

Yes indeed Zoo imagine being homeless in this weather Sad. Over here, the police forcibly move rough sleepers to shelters once it reaches a certain low temperature. I'm not sure about the ethics of that tbh, but it does mean people rarely die on the streets (although it still does happen occasionally sadly).

A warm welcome to Harebellmeadow! (Lovely nn btw!)

Yay to Meet and everyone else!

Sproutingcorm · 01/02/2019 06:47

Forgot to say great thread title btw Sass

EustaciaVye · 01/02/2019 07:16

Hi everyone
Missed a few days as life got busy. Snow day here. House still a mess.
I bought Mari Kondo book so going to read that this weekend

SassitudeandSparkle · 01/02/2019 07:42

Welcome Harebellmeadow, good to have you with us!

Snowy here, disappointingly my daughter's school is open so will rouse myself and get her there shortly! Back later on with coffee and croissants for all, stay warm and safe (especially zoo who was having boiler trouble yesterday Sad )

In our local town the homeless have all been given tents.

It snowed some more here. Which is not great. Temperature is really low too. And I have to do some essential maintenance on my car before i can head to work. All. the. fun.

Zoo hope they fix your boiler and you have water again!

Harebellmeadow · 01/02/2019 11:24

Thanks for letting me join. I Dont know if ill be able to keep up with you but even a little change will be great. Once a month I have a big clearup and then we can have visitors, but otherwise there are toys strewn everywhere from DD1 (7), i need to get things sorted before DD2 (6m) starts to crawl. Speed required.

I signed up to fly lady before but didnt manage to keep up. Having cleaning help meant i didnt have to so much, but now time for a reset.

Stilllivinginazoo · 01/02/2019 13:12

Tales of you couldn't make it up part 2141....
Rerang contractor today.explained no show and no return call yesterday.they directed me OVER THE PHONE how to rest boiler."give it an hour n if pressure drops ring us back"
It did.no hit water/heat again.i rang them.ok we send someone
Man appears, does same as I did.fuddled meter cupboard and looked at the control for central heating.said happens again just reset as necessary and ring office Monday for repairs as parts broken
I happily head to bed for hour nap with heating working.get up cold and no heat/no pressure...
Ring them back AGAIN admitted they'd sent a servicing technician ,not an engineer as they're so busy...
I barely held my temper by this point as I patiently explained again I had to sent my kids elsewhere as was so cold last night(which I can't do tonight as dd2 is out) and I appreciate they're very busy but no hat/hot water from Thurs to Monday really isn't very fair on small children in middle of a very cold spell...he said rebook an engineer"whose working round the corner from you" to pop round at some point this afternoon
As the offices close at 430 if he's not appeared by then I be back on the phone and if get no joy I'm ringing the council to get them involved as this is getting my whole herd of goats

foxessocks · 01/02/2019 13:33

Oh zoo I've got my fingers crossed for you that it gets sorted today. That sounds so horrible Sad

Sc hehe well my dd can peel carrots and parsnips now so she's becoming more useful!! Ds on the other hand is still at the drop all the sprinkles and flour on the floor stage...
Your dd school sounds so tough btw!! It will make her into a strong woman that's for sure!

Welcome harebell!

Ds is asleep in the car and if I move him I'm sure he'll wake up so I'm sitting in the car with my coat and scarf on just waiting Grin anything to get him to have a nap! We've just had lunch in the supermarket cafe so at least I'm not hungry.

Ta da
Toddler group
Bought birthday cards for parties this weekend
Bought some groceries
Picked up parcel
Cleaned and hoovered carpet after cat came in all muddy Angry
Rinsed porridgey bowls as didn't have time to wash up but learnt from yesterday that dried on porridge not good! I want my dishwasher back!!

Dishwasher is arriving on Tuesday so lots of washing up this weekend, we never even used to have a dishwasher but now it seems such hard work without one! Bit ridiculous really, it's not that bad.

Braces don't really hurt anymore just a strange pressure and still can't eat properly. Bought chocolate anyway though for later. Avoided m&ms though Smile

Catch you all later and thanks for new thread sass

Bowerbird5 · 01/02/2019 13:47

Oh zoo that is awful.

Hills Thanks for last months thread.

Sass great name for this month and thanks for taking it on.

Welcome Harebellmeadow lovely name and don’t worry about keeping up. We play take off and dip on here. Sometimes we’re grounded. That’s why we have a naughty corner.

I missed the breakfast because I slept in until 9.05 which means I am poorly because although I have a lie in I don’t sleep till that time unless I have been to bed early hours. Feel slightly better though still nauseous do you think I have come out in sympathy of I’ve?

I have sorted through school paperwork looking for something so ditched quite a lot. Reorganised a bit. Now playing catch up ( I know I shouldn’t be) in bedroom and found why I had a knicker shortage DD had put clean washing in a bag and shoved it away for sister’s visit. I have sorted and now have a large ironing pile for tomorrow. Found a nearly new pair of shoes in the trunk and two pairs I had forgotten about so swapped summer box and winter trunk shoes.

We have a small amount of snow which is surprising as we usually have it instead of south. I think we will get it this month. Going to send DH shopping for staples and replace baking stuff I used. We still have half the pudding left 🤦🏼‍♀️ Next time maybe half the quantities.

Also thought about the homeless. I don’t give to beggars but I go and donate to Shelter every now and then. It is because my BF said most of them were MH patients that she was often nursing those days and it was spent on alcohol and drugs. Which I can sympathise with because if you had a shit life you probably would want to blot it out. I do donate to Sallies here sometimes as they cook meals several times a week.

SassitudeandSparkle · 01/02/2019 13:50

Bit of tidying this morning, and vacuuming. Will go into the kitchen for half an hour now.

Despite having snowed consistently most of the morning, it's melting fast now - just hoping it won't freeze too badly overnight!

zoo hope someone able to help get the boiler working properly turns up ASAP!

Back later!

I HAVE HOT WATER AND HEATING!!!!!

Can you believe with competent engineer it was sorted in under twenty minutes with a selection of big tools and a spare part in back off his van❤️

foxessocks · 01/02/2019 16:08

zoo hooray!!!! Fantastic news!

Stilllivinginazoo · 01/02/2019 16:31

foxes I ment to add dd2 only had bottom set tightened and elastics added.painful but slept.sore this morning.ok tonight ❤️she's finding eating very uncomfortable but other than that just needs few ibuprofen and she's up n ok(phew)she's now wallowing under a cascade hot water in shower after braving wash hair in cold water and me stand with kettle and a jug so she could have s quick wash last night!!Grin

Sproutingcorm · 01/02/2019 17:59

Thank gawd for that Zoo! Yay! 🙋 [High five]

I can't help but think of the Two Ronnies when someone mentions the Sally Army Grin but agree they do totally amazing work in homelessness and addiction. Right at the nitty gritty end of things. Absolutely love their brass bands at Christmas too! Glad knicker crisis averted! (Excuse the non sequitur!) Grin

Hope you can use as little crockery as poss this weekend Foxes (paper plates, foil trays a la Nigella?). School will only make DD in to a strong woman if it doesn't break her first sadly 😮. Honestly, she finds it hard going and I feel we are on a bit of a knife edge most of the time ... we'll see. A change may be in order (UK boarding for sixth form?) but don't want to interfere with residency application at this delicate moment! Bloody Brexit!

Safe driving Hills !

Hi to Eustachian, (good luck Kondo-ing) and wavesvto everyone else!

Just back from a couple of gruelling rounds with anaesthetist/haematologist/cardiologist at hospital. Don't get me wrong, it's a great place, everyone so polite and kind and staff spontaneously ask if you need help if you look a bit lost wandering down a corridor (which I often do!) which is lovely! I know I shouldn't complain because health care brilliant here so I'm v lucky indeed, but I just find the lights do wierd things to me, and lord the heat, and the lack of windows. It's honestly all I can do to remain seated in the various spotless white reflective waiting rooms without screaming in panic and running for the emergency exits to gulp in air and look at a tree! All the other patients look so calm/bored; is it just me I wonder? Confused [embarrassing first world problem].
