Welcome to the February Flylady thread, we’d love to have you with us as we chat and work our way through our houses in February. Flylady uses the zone method of cleaning so we’ll be focusing on a different area of the house each week – we will post daily links to the Launch Pad on the Flylady website which gives all the details of the current Zone, daily missions and babysteps.

Newbies are always welcome so feel free to join in at any time. Flylady does recommend decluttering your house first, so if you are not ready for the cleaning routines yet it’s fine to focus on the decluttering bit – add the babysteps in if you wish.

SassitudeandSparkle · 02/02/2019 14:39

Afternoon all, crisp but sunny here today. The sun has disposed of most of the snow here too I've, a shame as the place looks very pretty with it.

Are you having some time with the horse today, SC? Eustacia, foxes and Lisette I'm all in favour of using whatever cleaning method or person you find most inspiring, there are quite a few that are zone-based like Flylady so feel free to pick and mix as you prefer.

I love the smell of beeswax candles and am now craving a tin of polish instead of a spray foxes. Stressy even half an hour to yourself helps, and the sledging sounds fun meet.

Once again, I wish I had zoo's cooking mojo!

Catch you again this evening when I post the link.

Thanks all I think I might try it, more environmentally friendly I think? Although now some of you said no polish that has made me think perhaps I don't need to use actual polish very often at all...maybe just a damp cloth to get the dust off? We seem to have a lot of dust and I've always just used polish plus a duster to clean it. I think perhaps I've been going about it the wrong way!

Dd has had two birthday parties today, the first one me and ds went too and the second one she is at now but I was allowed to leave thank goodness Grin only thing is it's quite a walk away but as it is physically walkable I refuse to take the car so I've only been in for about 20 minutes and once I finish my cup of tea I'll have to leave again! Dh has now taken the car as well and I'm thinking I'm going to have to walk in the dark now didn't think this through Confused

Consequently the house is a bit of a tip although dh has at least done the washing up! Sod it though I'm not doing any now I'm having this sit down!

Hope everyone enjoying their Saturday!

HillsBesideTheSea · 02/02/2019 15:29

We use a damp cloth most of the time and then the wax maybe once or twice a year. Depends on 1. the furniture and 2. cba.

IVEgottheDECAF · 02/02/2019 15:35

I have also dealt with two birthday parties today foxes so i fully feel your pain. I need sleep.

foxessocks · 02/02/2019 15:35

hills thanks. I think I'll start using a damp cloth sometimes instead. I think I just got into the habit of having lots of different sprays for different things when you actually don't need them at all!!!

I'm now wondering what else I could be doing without! Grin

foxessocks · 02/02/2019 15:36

ive Grin dd was meant to be going to a third one tomorrow but it has been postponed due to snow!

IVEgottheDECAF · 02/02/2019 15:37

Thank god for that foxes!

MeetOnTheledge · 02/02/2019 15:38

I just use a damp microfibre cloth on wooden surfaces and a dispossble pledge duster on a handle for nooks and crannies (tops of books, under and round the TV and its associated boxes and chargers).

Lisette1940 · 02/02/2019 16:22

I've oatcakes are good for the sickness.

Burns night mark two kicks off here as there's a second haggis to finish off.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 02/02/2019 16:34

foxes, no I don’t use the beeswax polish but you have brought back lovely memories of me and my brother helping my mum clean the church when we were kids. I can almost smell it Smile. We thought it was so much fun; in retrospect it must have been a massive hassle for my mum Grin.

Ta da:-
Food shop done
Girls’ dancing and some homework / reading done
DH has started tea (spaghetti bolognese and I bought enough to freeze half Star).

To do:-
I have been bad at laundry this week and as a result it is everywhere! DDs are having some quiet time so I am going to see how much I can get put away.

No snow here although cold and icy in parts.

Some of you might be interested in this
thread. Saw you on it Cag Smile.

Epic parenting failSad

Cagliostro · 02/02/2019 17:28

I’m not engaging in the whole “dyslexia doesn’t mean they can’t leave their keys in the right place” thing, some people have NO IDEA how hard it is with executive function difficulties

I actually slept last night and I am not getting as many brain zaps and stuff. So I think the medication may be finally out of my system. However I think I am now having a fibro/ME flare.

Cagliostro · 02/02/2019 17:29

It isn’t a parenting fail to need your sleep zoo xxx

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 02/02/2019 18:34

Ooh good point Cag Angry.

Sproutingcorm · 02/02/2019 20:18

OK don't laugh but I have a bit of old battered brown furniture (hand me downs) so have researched this subject a bit. Basically people like English Heritage and the National Trust only recommend polishing with beeswax once a year or less. The rest of the time they recommend dusting surfaces with a soft, lint free cloth. For any carved or moulded bits you use a soft paint brush to gently flick dust into a vacuum nozzle.

They recommend using a good quality, unstained beeswax with turpentine polish and avoiding any beeswax polish which contains linseed oil (which makes it easier to apply but doesn't produce a hard surface). And they advise avoiding commercial sprays because they contain harsh chemicals which can effect the patina of the wood.

HTH!

Sproutingcorm · 02/02/2019 20:19

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 02/02/2019 20:29

SC Grin

foxessocks · 02/02/2019 21:05

sc thanks that is so helpful!! I'm going to stop using furniture spray in that case, one less thing to buy and I'll do a beeswax polish as an annual event Grin (might have to use up my method furniture spray first because it smells so lovely!)

SassitudeandSparkle · 02/02/2019 22:39

Link for Sunday Launch Pad

I remember the weekends of multiple parties well, in fact I was talking to someone else about it this week! Constantly shopping for presents for children you didn't know and travelling to various places for them. There were some good ones, though.

SC that's some research right there! As my furniture is not heritage standard, I'm probably safe with my feather dusters/spray polish/vacuum combo, sad to say.

That other thread is interesting, Stressy, have to agree with having a place for stuff like keys - I nominated a basket and throw my car keys in it when I come through the door. It did make me giggle when DD opened the front door with her own key, and then carefully put the key in the basket! Does show how a good example makes it easy I wonder why it hasn't worked with her bedroom though

I should wine, I mean sign off for the night now, I've done some laundry today including putting some dry stuff away to make room on the drying racks (this bit is possibly worse than ironing for me) and I intend to iron tomorrow so everyone has enough stuff to get them through the week (shirts, etc).

It's going to be a cold one tonight so wrap up warm and sleep well!

EustaciaVye · 03/02/2019 07:23

Hi everyone
I will go and look at that thread. I don't use furniture polish. Just a microfiber cloth.

Off to an art class this morning. Time for me!!!

WheelyCote · 03/02/2019 07:34

Can I join pls...again.

I can't past the beginning....mainly the sink. I have teenagers...who eat like you wouldn't believe. It's disheartening to sought the sink and 2 secs later it be messy again. I can get the lads to clear the pots and not leave food in the sink🙄 but they are still laughing at me....the drying the sink was a step to far for them😁

Anybody else have issues getting their family to play along?

IVEgottheDECAF · 03/02/2019 07:48

Honestly i cant even be arsed trying to get the family to play ball! I am flopping massively atm. Constant laundry mountain, constant stack of dishes, crap everywhere Sad

Cagliostro · 03/02/2019 11:44

We are all moody as hell here. Kids just getting at each other constantly, DH in pain, me sleep deprived and on edge.

I am distracting myself by planning a possible new business venture 🧐 eeeek scary (as it involves an outlay)
