Or try to anyway!

All welcome! I am struggling to stay awake so I’ll do the proper thread stuff tomorrow, but if you’d like some encouragement and chat while you get your house sorted then this is the place for you. We follow flylady in a delightfully lax sort of fashion.

Special thanks to zoo for the title idea 💐 😘

Thanks for may cag good job, well done!
Shannara I find earplugs or loud TV drown out flylady whispering, but as I age I may be becoming a trifle deaf😂

foxessocks · 31/05/2018 10:37

cag I really really get you with the "stuck" feeling. I get it sometimes and this morning was one of those times. My mind feels full of cotton wool today I can't seem to function!

My morning since dropping dd off:
Came home hungry and in need of a cuppa. Asked ds is he wanted a toasted teacake. He said "no". Put teacake in toaster for me and boil kettle. Electricity trips out. So took the teacake out of toaster switched everything off buttered teacake ready then went to sort the electricity out. Come back and ds has eaten my tea cake Angry Hmm

Tidyhomewannabe · 31/05/2018 10:43

cag how old are your dc? We’ve had a quiet half term, but we’ve had a games night and a movie night, this time, they thought it was great because I got them a can of pop (I’m a mean mum and they can only have dilute normally) and some bits of junk to eat. I wrote them an invitation in the morning and they sorted the rest themselves - meant I could sit back while they had fun. We’ve been out everyday but only for an hour or 2 for a walk or visiting the park, just to break the day up .

Craft things are almost done - currently trying to get dd2 to nap so I can sleep too

foxessocks · 31/05/2018 11:04

I need to snap out of my mood and get something done while dd out!!! I'm being beyond hopeless today Sad

Cagliostro · 31/05/2018 11:39

Tidy they are 8 and nearly 11 (and 7 months :o). Half term isn’t so much of a thing for us, as they are home educated, so they do loads in term time, trips etc as well as all their clubs which they love (they both do tap, taekwondo, St. John Ambulance and trampolining, DD also does ballet, ballroom dancing and gymnastics). The only difference in half term is that many clubs are off, and the neighbours are around more to play so we tend to see their (many many) home ed friends a bit less. TBF it has been a quiet week but her comment just hurt given how much they’ve been doing immediately before the week her school friends happen to be off! DH keeps saying they can’t be spoilt but to me it’s not about having new stuff all the time, they can be spoilt by circumstance too, and I think we need to be a bit more mindful of that.

He also said they are only young so can’t be expected to know how much we do for them, but, without wanting to be a mummy martyr Hmm I think they are old enough to appreciate that their needs can’t come first all the time? It’s little things too like when they complain about having the same food yet again while not actually being willing to try new things or appreciating that DH and I have virtually given up eating the meals we like because they won’t eat them. Or even refusing to watch a new (child friendly) film that we want to see.

I sound really bitchy now! It’s not their fault TBH, we have let things get like this and they aren’t bad kids at all, they are really loving and DD especially does say she’s lucky I’m her mum 💖⭐️:o but we definitely need to be stricter in general. In particular with helping around the house, but we find that so difficult when we are in such a mess to begin with! I definitely will need a better system when we move. It’s just so hard ATM.

Right my parents are here so I’m off! TTFN

Tidyhomewannabe · 31/05/2018 13:04

Ahh yes , I remember now cag that they are similar ages to mine (11, 7 and just turned 2). I think homeschooling, you’ll have a lot more ideas on how to keep them occupied than I will! While I don’t think kids will ever understand how much we do, they can learn a little compassion for when you aren’t feeling up to it. As for helping around the house, I’ve tried all sorts to get them to do it and the silly thing is - they’re actually pretty good at it, but they have to be asked/reminded constantly - sometimes it’s hard enough thinking what I have to do, reminding them what they need for which club and when, that I just forget to tell them to do their chores ! A habit I must get into!
I take my hat off to you homeschooling , that must take a lot of organising, what age do you think you will go up to? Enjoy your afternoon with your parents CakeBrew

Bowerbird5 · 31/05/2018 14:12

Hi,
I'm back. I posted yesterday but it disappeared😳 was sleepy so might have dozed off mid typing. Had a 20 minute kip.

Been up early today mainly because bin men coming and I was wondering why the bin was so full. DH has a habit of binning stuff without asking. I get a bit panicky so donned plastic bag to check a few bits. Lo and behold he has binned £5 of nut butters which I had just bought. He said they were way out of date. May 5 th but they are nuts and oil! I wanted to try them but forgot to take with me. This is a man who will eat chicken and pork that is a couple of days over! I won't do that but what can go off with nuts! I also found some of my post...how bloody dare he! Information about supporting my Ethopian child with an extra and information I needed for school about Guide Dogs speakers. I had opened both but left on the side to do this week while I was off. A bird box which he must have knocked off the wall and binned instead of hammering a couple of new nails in.
I didn't go any further. I was furious this morning.
Re nut butters I will put in next time he is paying. I am missing three rings and have always wondered if he either threw them out in something without looking or flogged them. I have not found them since I moved them when I came home to find BT man in my bedroom without him present and my rings out next to working. I don't like being not trusting but they were my granny's and mum's and quite valuable.
In future I will make sure my post is upstairs. 😤
I had a lovely time away and although I was working I was appreciated. We all worked so hard you can really see a difference. The weather was amazing now I am home it is cool and been raining.
I could have stayed all week but I knew I needed to get back to sort out here. The decluttering down there has rubbed off and I have cleaned out kitchen cupboards and shelves. Do a " Do I love it test?"

Ta Das
Washing bedding x2 loads
Cleaned out/ rearranged corner cupboard.
Baking stuff. Corner opposite too.
More baking stuff sorted out
Rounded up some sheep and took them down the hill.
Washed floor in kitchen.

Ivegotfamilyandidrinkcupsoftea · 31/05/2018 14:17

bower opposite problem here in that i am the only person who can see any of the bins...

Bowerbird5 · 31/05/2018 14:20

Thanks Foxes. Sounds yummy and I am going down to cook again in June so think I will give that a whirl as I have to have something quick as I need to go Friday night after school and it takes 1 1/2 hrs minimum to get there.

Bowerbird5 · 31/05/2018 14:27

I can see them I just don't go around putting other people's stuff in them and just use for rubbish. I do the recycling too as he is lazy. I found a jar of perfectly good apricot jam in there too. I did get that out for recycling. I took my mail out as luckily he had thrown it in amongst freebies and my NT magazine which I hadn't read. I left everything else but just feel the need to check.
I can't stand waste. I like to recycle and am not so lazy as him. Why not rinse jam and recycle jar. Hmm. Just as well he has gone back to work.

Ivegotfamilyandidrinkcupsoftea · 31/05/2018 14:42

Sorry bower! Wasnt trying to suggest you never use the bin! Was meaning your dh bins everything and mine cant find the bin! Blush

foxessocks · 31/05/2018 15:34

Ooh bower that would make me very cross!!

I have achieved nothing further housework wise but have played all afternoon with dd, we have played, tea parties, Playmobil, hide and seek and done some activities in her comic. Got to get ds up now then bit of housework.

Stilllivinginazoo · 31/05/2018 15:37

carbonella · 31/05/2018 17:16

Hi all. zoo YES i recognise that worry about them becoming reliant on screens. I have put a 1 hour limit on the fire tablets, and refuse to extend it... and I confiscate them regularly. It's a battle, sometimes, isn't it!
bower sorry to hear of your dh chucking out your stuff, I would also find that very stressful.

Went shopping for New work clothes traipsed round tons of shops, limited success, but should have just gone to Sainsbury's- I always like their stuff.
bought new make-up (ran out of foundation weeks ago, but I do look better with it on! I get breakouts)
lined kitchen cupboard and organised it
collected parcel

Now going to blitz the kitchen. Dh took kids out today so I am feeling a bit reenergised.

foxessocks · 31/05/2018 18:37

zoo we eat a lot of frozen veg too , it's great I only discovered it in recent years!

foxessocks · 31/05/2018 18:38

The salmon was delicious but dh and ds didn't like the sweet potato mash (it is cooked with a lime in it) , ioved it all though so must just be different tastes.

Tidyhomewannabe · 31/05/2018 19:12

Ta da
Craft table declutter is finally complete!
Roast chicken dinner cooked
Dd taken and fetched from gymnastics
Ds is at football with his dad
Netting bought from the shop (along with some interfacing and thread Grin)

To do
Persuade Dd to tidy her things away
General tidy
Roast dinner pots Sad
Bath and put dd2 to bed (currently snuggled on the sofa watching lion guard )

foxes your dd will remember you playing her , the housework will wait xxx

Stilllivinginazoo · 31/05/2018 19:19

foxes bet mine wouldn't like lime in it.they love sweet potato mash with fresh fine grated ginger tho(lil zoo is a ginger fiend to be honest!!)

I did another load.folded and put away after drying

Did cheese on toast, cucumber sticks strawberries and grapes plus few plain crisps for lil zoo n D's supper(she had gf bread n appropriate cheese)the dirt helps a bit,but I can't wean her off squash and it's a major no no as has fruit juices and sweeteners, both banned, but she won't drink plain water(sigh)
Having coloured tog for a bit today I've learned she'd rather do jigsaws so might have a look at investing in a jigroll and some big puzzles to do for a bit each day to allow her to relax and she chats a bit whilst we are doing stuff together so assume that will help anxiety?

Washed up
My body is screaming for a huge pile roasted squash and broccoli so going to surrender to it,adding mushrooms and green beans to the trayGrin
A sprinkle of large amount cheese over it.hapoy days with part bake rollsSmile
