Fledglings flying high in July - the Flylady thread

Hello and welcome to July's Flylady thread! This is a lovely friendly thread where we follow (sort of) the Flylady system in the hope of having organised homes. Some of us are more successful at this than others ;).

Newcomers are very welcome, please don't be put off by any abbreviations or general gossip. Please join in the gossip.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) will post information about the next day. This will be the current zone we are in, the decluttering/ tidying mission and the habit for the day / month. Generally this is done the evening before.

All information is available on the Flylady website www.flylady.net. On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails -
we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

There will be lots of information on this thread and you can also have a look around the (confusing at times) Flylady website:-

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

It is not a miracle and sometimes the missions are very optimistic but I work on the principle that something is better than nothing :)

Thanks for a great June thread SC.

Happy flying everyone Smile.

Signing in!

I have been inhabiting the naughty corner for several years months but I really would like to do better this month... honest... baby arrival is approaching and there is still so much to do! Plus we are trying to increase the structure in our home education for the Caglets, so will need to be more organised for that.

Thank you Stressy for the new thread and thank you SC for last month! Thanks

Shannaratiger · 30/06/2017 18:56

Sneaking back into the naughty corner.

Will try and post occasionally Blush

Have really fallen off the FLYing wagon and it shows! Changing from 1 to 3 lunchtimes working has totally fried my brain. Need to rely on FLYlady to remind me what I need to do as brain is like cotton wool.
Have just caught up on last months thread but forgotten it already. Will post before taking my meds.

Hope you all have a good evening and dc's sleep.

Sanscollier · 30/06/2017 22:24

I think my pointy stick is lying abandoned somewhere Purple covered in dust!! Grin

Yay! Lovely to "see you" again Shannara! How is your dd? Has she taken part in any more singing performances recently?

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 30/06/2017 23:22

The daily summary for Saturday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day

Baby-step no 1 - shine your sink

The daily focus for Saturday is: family fun day

Do something fun with the family. Or... in the real world, attempt to do something fun then feel crushed with the pressure of #making memories and then bicker amongst yourselves Grin.

reminders

No missions or zone work necessary at the weekend unless you want to.

We are in Zone 1 this week: the entrance, front porch and dining room

Spend 15 mins, or whatever you can manage, decluttering in Zone 1.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 1 is here

July's habit is not on the website yet so you will need to wait with bated breath.

Happy flying everyone.

Apologies for posting and running in June. Dd's 18th birthday party for her friends followed by my dm and dss coming over for a week (still here) plus dd's prom and actual 18th birthday. This has not been a time for house sorting! Will attempt to start again when I wake up tomorrow!!

Sanscollier · 01/07/2017 07:57

No need to apologise Long-time the end of term is mad enough here, and stressful to boot, never mind the end of school forever!!! Hope your DD's 18th went well (and you and your ma and dss had/are having a lovely visit!).

Wh0Kn0wsWhereTheTimeGoes · 01/07/2017 08:19

Marking place here too, I am not feeling too optimistic re Flying this month with one DC about to break up from school, the other at school till the end of the month then leaving, leavers events, very complicated childcare arrangements and a dance show. Oh and an allotment. Think it might be the naughty corner for me too. Thanks for last month SC and for starting this thread Stressy Flowers

PurpleDaisies · 01/07/2017 08:19

Morning all.

It's a greyish day here but it's dry so I'm going out for the whole day at 10am. Before then I've got to plan tomorrow's Sunday school (why why why did I volunteer for this when work is so busy?!) and do a few house jobs. Dh and I did a 20 minute tidy last night so the house isn't awful but there are bits to do. I'd highly recommend having a Sunday night absolute minimum checklist-it's working really well here. I've got the Cozi app and have set it up as a list so I can tick things off through the week and then just reset it on Sunday night. Apparently you can get flylady lists on it too but I'm not technologically advanced enough for that!

Ta da's (technically from last night)
Sweep floors
Clean sink
Dishwasher on
Made muffins (bad-undercooked but saveable in the microwave)
Emptied all bins
Cleaned little bathroom
Meal planned plus online food order
Bit of a tidy

To dos
Clean main bathroom
Clean out Guinea pigs
Finish washing up
Plan Sunday school
Plan regular school
Vacuum

Thanks for leading us last month sc
Lovely shiny new thread toostressy

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 01/07/2017 08:37

Morning all Brew. There are a few of us in the naughty corner on the first day of this month Smile. We are at my parents so no opportunity for flying at home. Aiming to do a bit of digital flying and declutter inbox etc but not sure how realistic this is.

Hello to longtime - sounds as if you have had a busy few weeks. Wing flaps also to all in the naughty corner.

Hello to SC, zoo, foxes, Wh0Kn0ws, Honu, Cag, mermaids, Afresh, Cotswold, Rosa, BluePheasant and everyone else. Purple, that's a good idea for a Sunday night list. I have daily lists on the Home Routines list but... you guessed it... often don't use them.

Ta da:-
All up and dressed and out of the house
Not yet argued with parents (mainly because I have spent only 5 minutes with them)

To do:-
Go shopping with DDs and my parents - they want to go to smiggle. Aaaagggh.
Survive the day
Possibly escape out for a meal / drink later with DH if parents babysit
Try to enjoy the visit.

OP posts:
Cagliostro · 01/07/2017 10:01

Best of luck Stressy I hope the visit goes as smoothly as possible!

Stilllivinginazoo · 01/07/2017 10:02

We have tackled the girls room!!
Another binbag recycling and carrier bag rubbish. Treasured art work stuck on cupboard doors rather then wreck wallpaper
Dd2 bed totally cleared underneath(shudders at piles laundry and 2cm layer dust right at the back)
All surfaced cleared and tidied
Only took 2hours

By no means a palace, but its presentable

I may now rest for the day.that was bloody stressful(with th dd2 anyway, lil zoo loves cleaning with assistance/guidance as she's naturally not a hoarder and likes organisation)

Stilllivinginazoo · 01/07/2017 10:04

Yes,forgot that toostressy good luck

Afreshstartplease · 01/07/2017 10:10

Morning all

Ty for new thread stressy, and for last months SC

I must must must do better this month.
It is moving month.
I need to get my arse in gear.

Ta Da

One load dry
Dryer reloaded
Last nights pots washed

Cagliostro · 01/07/2017 10:48

Wow great stuff on the girls' room!

DH put a wash on this morning so will sort out the drying later. All clothes put away this morning which is good as ours were building up. DH keeps folding the Caglets' clothes for them though which I don't think he should. When I sort the clothes I just bung their clothes in piles and they have to pair socks, fold t-shirts, turn everything the right way out etc. They are capable of it so I think they should always do it - they do virtually no other chores so I think it's important that they always do what they CAN do rather than DH doing part of it for them. He just says it's force of habit but also he's a softie - AIBU?!

DH took stuff to the charity shop, 3 big shopping bags. It's been sitting in the kitchen for a while so not new decluttering but it's made space nonetheless!

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 01/07/2017 11:48

No you are not. Tell DH if the caglets aren't folding their own washing then they need other chores, make them folding clothes the nicer option Wink

I have almost finished stripping ds' walls of book case fittings, pictures etc. I have moved most of the bed but need to hoover the remaining bit before I can disassemble it. Then there is a bookcase, desk to move before I can actually throw some paint on the wall. Only 2 coats and not huge walls so it should be done by tonight. However, ds and I need words about the definition of tidy floor HmmAngryHmm
