Fledglings flying high in July - the Flylady thread

Hello and welcome to July's Flylady thread! This is a lovely friendly thread where we follow (sort of) the Flylady system in the hope of having organised homes. Some of us are more successful at this than others ;).

Newcomers are very welcome, please don't be put off by any abbreviations or general gossip. Please join in the gossip.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) will post information about the next day. This will be the current zone we are in, the decluttering/ tidying mission and the habit for the day / month. Generally this is done the evening before.

All information is available on the Flylady website www.flylady.net. On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails -
we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

There will be lots of information on this thread and you can also have a look around the (confusing at times) Flylady website:-

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

It is not a miracle and sometimes the missions are very optimistic but I work on the principle that something is better than nothing :)

Thanks for a great June thread SC.

Happy flying everyone Smile.

Right. I am here for the weekend. Fucking motivate meeeeeeeeee

Afreshstartplease · 29/07/2017 05:47

Foxes how old is your ds now? I remember him being a couple of months older than mine who is now 9m.

My little one has been worst of all 4 for sleeping. Since we moved has not had full night in his cot at all. Last night managed 1130-5am. Some nights I haven't got him into the cot at all and he has ended up in my bed which I don't really want. I think some babies just don't sleep well. I haven't done things any different with him to the older ones yet he's a nightmare!

Also I always think back to having read that often sleep is disturbed when they are about to reach a milestone. Is your ds learning anything new? Mine is just mastering pulling to standing, so hopefully as he gets better at that he will sleep again!

Cagliostro · 29/07/2017 05:54

Can't help on the sleep front foxes DD would only go to sleep holding my hand last night. DD is 10. And that's an improvement from the last time we stayed at mum's where I got fuck all sleep! She gets so worked up in different places but she moved the table to fit her air bed right next to me which is helping. Problem is she gets really freaked out at the idea of being the last one awake (at home too) which is very difficult when I am extra tired from having a cold... and from growing a baby!

Awake at silly o'clock which is annoying after we all slept till 9 yesterday. Not sure I'll get back to sleep now. No flying while I'm here but need to sort out luggage as we are going home tomorrow.

Afreshstartplease · 29/07/2017 06:05

Ty cag!

Ta Da

Dryer on
Dry pots away
Sink and drained sprayed
Cups moved from table

Afreshstartplease · 29/07/2017 06:19

Where do people store towels and bedding?
Old house had an airing cupboard but this one does not. I may add one in second bathroom further down the line but could do with something for now!
Think I can get away with bedding in each person's room. But towels?

foxessocks · 29/07/2017 07:22

afresh he is 10 months and you could well be right as he is almost walking now and has learnt a few words in the last few days, definitely a lot going on for him!

After a terrible start to bed time and then waking up and crying for an hour at 11pm then being awake for another hour after that he eventually fell asleep in his own cot at 12 and slept until 6.30 so that was quite good. I think now I've started it I really need to keep going with not feeding him at night at least. He doesn't need to be fed and last night it was clear he wasn't actually upset just angry that I wasn't feeding him. No tears were coming out he was just shouting! I keep going back and forth between giving up and persevering but I actually think that's making it worse because I need to be consistent.

Zoo once he had calmed down last night I lay him in his cot and held his hand for a while and then gradually moved away so thanks for the tip. I just hope we can get to the point where he isn't screaming for an hour before we can do that!!

Afresh we have an airing cupboard although it isn't really an airing cupboard anymore just a cupboard! Children's bedding goes in their bedrooms though in a drawer. So it's close to hand for any nighttime sheet changing!

Afreshstartplease · 29/07/2017 08:16

Ta Da

Dryer empty and reloaded
One load washed and second load now in
Dry pots away
Sink and drainer sprayed and wiped
Cups moved from table
All bottles scrubbed
Half bottles sterilised
Two drawers emptied, cleaned and reorganised
One cupboard emptied, cleaned and reorganised
Boxes sent upstairs to ds1s bedroom
Non dryer friendly washing hung to dry
Random pile crap sorted out

In other news my new house has NO kettle pile. Yet.

Cagliostro · 29/07/2017 11:26

With bedding I've started putting them in the matching pillowcase and I was thinking (as we have far more hanging space than we need) of hanging the full pillowcase from a clip hanger.

mermaidsandunicorns · 29/07/2017 21:05

Hello all, at our holiday cottage now with wifi that is a bit hit and miss! Will be on tomorrow with links and hopefully some personals. If nobody else can do it then I can start the August thread on Monday. As long as nobody minds the personals being fairly brief over the next few days while I'm away.

Big wing flaps to all Smile.

Quiet on here today! Home from mum's and knackered but very grateful we got a lift to the station which saved us a bus and tram ride. So only took 1h10m instead of about 2h.

Should get on with laundry really

Hi all, glad you had a good journey back Cag. I am not a fan of school holidays either zoo and tbh find being away on a proper holiday stressful. Hope not too expensive tomorrow zoo, does school / Facebook etc do any second hand stuff? Links next, will put them on while I have some reception!

Quick wave after a holiday so no housework!

I'm feeling smug for having ordered an Asda shop to arrive the evening we were back and having left washing drying. I've got everything unpacked and put a wash on. Hoping to tackle some of the jobs that never get done while it's term time this week. I'm currently emergency crocheting a baby blanket for next weekend. Really should have started earlier.

Cagliostro · 30/07/2017 18:14

I have also put a wash on. Only 90min after getting home, for me that's amazing! Made the Caglets empty their suitcases but need to do mine.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 30/07/2017 18:16

Hi Purple Smile. Glad you had a good time and Star for organised Asda shop and laundry. Star for your laundry too Cag.

Feeling happy as have just investigated the laundry room at our cottage and planning to do some tonight Blush.

Baby-step no 31 - think about signing up for the individual emails (as there can be quite a lot of them, we would advise caution!)

Sorry for terrible links there! Just realised in my rush have not changed the zone. Please ignore and will check Flylady website later and repost Blush.

OP posts:
TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 30/07/2017 19:17

Right, just looked at Flylady website. The zones only go up to 29th July which is zone 5. Looking at the missions for the next week the missions seem to be for zone 1 including Monday. Since I am on holiday with patchy internet coverage I am going to say pick your own zone for tomorrow although it does appear it is straight into zone 1 (front porch, entrance area and dining room). If you think you'd benefit from an extra day in zone 5 (living room) then do that instead Smile.

Hope that's ok with everyone, will be on tomorrow I hope and will try to start new thread.

Morning. Just about to sort through clean laundry from our trip. Also I have redone the weekly planner whiteboard for the week. It helps that DH's work have for once done more than a week's rota in advance so I feel a little more organised!
