Fledglings flying high in July - the Flylady thread

Hello and welcome to July's Flylady thread! This is a lovely friendly thread where we follow (sort of) the Flylady system in the hope of having organised homes. Some of us are more successful at this than others ;).

Newcomers are very welcome, please don't be put off by any abbreviations or general gossip. Please join in the gossip.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) will post information about the next day. This will be the current zone we are in, the decluttering/ tidying mission and the habit for the day / month. Generally this is done the evening before.

All information is available on the Flylady website www.flylady.net. On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails -
we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

There will be lots of information on this thread and you can also have a look around the (confusing at times) Flylady website:-

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

It is not a miracle and sometimes the missions are very optimistic but I work on the principle that something is better than nothing :)

Thanks for a great June thread SC.

Happy flying everyone Smile.

I just realised I need a trip to ikea later Hmm bugger. Will need to get the painting done earlier enough to achieve that then. Thank goodness they are open until 9pm!

Sanscollier · 01/07/2017 12:05

[SC crawls in to thread on knees and whimpers]

Afternoon all! Thanks for thanks everyone Smile!

Arf at Zoo's "horn of triumph" Grin Grin Wow, you certainly got off to a running start there - fantastically well done for sorting your dds room! Star

Imho you can't do better than you already are Afreshstart because you are already stretched to capacity! There are only so many hours in the day! Can you rally some support to help? Flowers

I wouldn't worry Whoknows, June for me (our manic last month of school prior to holidays) was a Flying write off here for similar reasons. I always forget how busy it is. I think it is better to just go in to survival mode, and be prepared to do no housework other than the minimum and have low expectations Smile.

Cag Well done for getting rid of three bags of RC! Star I am the worst person to ask about laundry as dd is totally indulged and get hers washed, beautifully ironed (not by me), stacked in piles, delivered in laundry panier to her room which she then doesn't put away. So I am a total hypocrite because I think dc should do it themselves really if at all possible and be as self-sufficient as poss! I certainly won't be doing dd's packing again after this morning's experience though Confused

Toostressy Thanks for links! I have no idea what Smiggle is - but I hope you survive it!

Raining stair rods here Purple. Hope you managed to get Sunday school planning done in time for departure and well done re: lists! Have a lovely day out!

Expansive wing flaps to everyone else!

Phew thank goodness that is over! It's taken from 6am this morning until now to prep and unite dd with her stuff for camp this morning!

Ta da:
animals
stacked dw with pile of things from supper last night Blush
wiped down surfaces
cooked enormous pan of broccoli, bacon, pea and pesto pasta (dd's supper for first evening of camp tonight)
while doing that cooked bacon and eggs for dh
made dd picnic lunch and assembled packs of biscuits, chocolate, fruit and nuts, drinks etc etc to go in various bags
bathed and made myself look vaguely respectable (not an easy task Wink)
found larger rucksack
ironed few last items
wrapped jam jars and lids in bubble wrap
packed pillow, sheet, laundry bag, bath towel, swimming towel and "tenue gala", in large dry cleaning plastic bag and sellotaped it up
bunged in multitude of head torches, fluo gilets, walking socks, waterproof trousers, anti-mosquito spray etc etc
tied sleeping bag, blow-up mattress, foot pump together with mini spider cord thing and attached to suitcase
wrapped present and card
packed suitcase
wrestled with suitcase to close it
packed other bag and attached large rucksack to it
wrestled with entire lot to make it vaguely portable
unpacked it all again - redistributed everything - then closed it all again Confused
delivered to departure point amidst scrum of pupils, parents, siblings, dogs, organisers etc etc

stood for 45 mins in the rain (the coach was late) and -
after all that - endured dd's wrath that there were more bags than she could carry easily (even though I explained we kept getting e-mails adding to the list of stuff) - whereupon dd had a nose-bleed (not too bad but required a bit of treatment) - lots of umming and ahhing from everyone - is she ok to go - after 20 mins dd declared herself fine and got on the bus and was waved off for 8 days... Hope she will be ok [wibble]

Came back to a scene of post-camp-packing-devastation.

Writes large mental note to self to buy much larger suitcase for next year ... .

I'm absolutely starving but need to take dog out before lunch because the poor boy has been neglected this morning and is crossing his paws

Enjoy your weekends everyone!

Sanscollier · 01/07/2017 12:07

x post

Like your wily strategy there Einstein Wink re: the dc chores I mean.
Good luck with the decorating!

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 01/07/2017 12:18

I missread that adding an extra l and wonder wtf I had said Blush

ta da
deal with exploding rotten egg
Envy - and that is definitely a boak face!

Stilllivinginazoo · 01/07/2017 12:58

Einstein that's grim
sc make use of the child free time.poor desperate furry.hope he got that wee in time!!well done in bag packing.be interesting to see how she gets it all back in to come home
cag yanbu responsibility for your own things is a valuable life lesson ,as is tidying one I've still not learnt
Plus any chores they are able to do and have good routines doing will help you once cagletini is here

Tadas
3rd load wash on(one dry,fold and away,one drying)
Cat/kits sorted
Part bake rolls for lunch cooked

Cagliostro · 01/07/2017 12:59

I misread that too einstein Blush

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 01/07/2017 13:02

Glad it wasn't just me cag Grin

Half the kitchen has had a bicarb paste spring clean Envy the smell was lingering and it was vile Envy

GOing to hide in ds' room. Hopefully nothing will explode at me in there!

Cagliostro · 01/07/2017 13:07

And thanks all, glad you agree! All laundry is put away now so hopefully I will be able to keep up with it better anyway, the plan is to get one load fully done each day and then the Caglets can just grab their stuff each evening. They are perfectly capable of sorting their own stuff - and their issues mean there are plenty of things they genuinely aren't capable of yet, so I do think it's even more important that they do what they can. For example DS can suddenly now wash his own hair completely so I won't be doing that anymore whereas DD can do all of it except get conditioner fully rinsed out so I only do that last bit for her.

Washing machine still going round. I don't know why it takes so long sometimes Confused and really not sure what I have the energy for today. Leftovers available for lunch/dinner so that's something.

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 01/07/2017 13:16

I haven't even eaten breakfast. breakfast was how the egg disaster started! Hmm
I have now had a bicarb paste wash and hopefully will no longer be smelling that sodding rotten egg. Hmm one of those smells that lodges itself in your nose and you can't rid though. Envy

Seriously this was not on my to do list today. Painting yes. Spring cleaning nope.

Stilllivinginazoo · 01/07/2017 13:53

See it as something you don't have to do later in the week?I can't for the life of me remember which zones first?!

Stilllivinginazoo · 01/07/2017 13:54

Doh! That post was ment fir Einstein
Must be burning down

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 01/07/2017 13:58

Lol except only did half and the other half is looking decidely icky now so will have to tackle that too....

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 01/07/2017 13:59

Hello all, things going ok for now at my parents.

SC, Smiggle is a horrific overpriced stationary shop which is the height of fashion among primary aged DC around here.

Stilllivinginazoo · 01/07/2017 14:16

I am embarrassed to admit excel st turning blind eye Einstein

Just had rare up dd2.I ask her put her sewing machine from under dining table under her bed now there's room(which stops lits be able get on table til their legs long enough to jump floor to surface) I spy a pair earrings appeared on clear chest drawers as I help push it under.asked if hers "dunno" and stomp downstairs.I state firmly it's the dumping if this n that that ends up with sty for s room.if she goes and looks and are hers(fairly sure that's the case) can put away.well clearly I am asking gargantuan task as noe she rant and snarling.... Maybe a simple get a ladder less ff neighbours and to guttering would've gone down better!!haha

I am now under a very long ds(11)as he wants cuddles and to read together...

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 01/07/2017 14:56

Good luck with room decluttering / tidying zoo and Einstein. The first zone is entrance area, front porch and dining room zoo.

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 01/07/2017 15:02

Ah bollocks so not technically ahead of the zones this month.

Zone work - random cardboard box had been despatched to the tip
as has the pile of other stuff for the tip. But the whole area is a bit of a disaster tbh.

Afreshstartplease · 01/07/2017 17:35

Afternoon all

Thanks to those who have been kind about my flopping!

Feel like I've done lots today but it's a case of not even touch the tip of the iceberg TBH

Ta Da

Two loads washed about dry
Third load drying
Bins emptied
Pots washed
Bottles washed and sterilised
Two worktops clear and clean
Hob clean
Bath scrubbed
Two toilets cleaned
Two sinks cleaned
Started packing toys and games

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 01/07/2017 19:16

Hello all, just posting links now then will be on with personals later.

**

The daily summary for Sunday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day

The daily focus for Sunday is: renew your spirit. I had a revelation about this a while back (think I have posted this on here before) after reading a MN thread saying that if you view time to yourself as a full spa day you will be frequently disappointed but if you can find time to yourself over a few mins with a cup of tea then you can feel more at peace with things. Of course this probably only works for the little stresses and not the big ones but I find it helpful.

Baby-step no 2 - get dressed as soon as you get up Such a good babystep although whether you get dressed all the way to shoes is up to you. I don't.

reminders

No missions or zone work necessary at the weekend unless you want to.

We are in Zone 1 this week: the entrance, front porch and dining room

Spend 15 mins, or whatever you can manage, decluttering in Zone 1.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 1 is here

July's habit is swish and swipe

Happy flying everyone.

Sanscollier · 01/07/2017 22:43

Spoke too soon! Just (literally) had message DD not feeling well at camp. Agreed to see how she is in the morning. Will be worrying all night now.

mermaidsandunicorns · 01/07/2017 22:58

Cannot explain how jealous you're making me stressy

Popped up to see dsis and new baby today first time merlets had seen him as hospital wouldn't let them in when he was born Hmm

Lots of travelling today and then went and watched our local carnival which was nice

Plan to have a days blitzing tomorrow followed by a BBQ in evening

Have a good evening all xx

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 01/07/2017 23:28

Sorry Grin. We don't get loads of child free nights out so it is lovely when they happen. Back at my parents now and tomorrow will be a long day with the journey home.

Aside from a couple of stressful moments (and some whispered criticisms that I deliberately didn't listen to) today was good Smile.

SC, how stressful, hope DD is ok tomorrow. mermaids, good luck with blitzing tomorrow. Good list Afresh. Any news in the work situation? Big wing flaps to all.

Thanks for the new thread Stressy and thanks to SC for her fabulous thread-leading skillz in June.

Have ferried DD around today, run the dishwasher and drunk a glass of wine. Squad goals achieved there, I think And on that note, I'll quit while I'm ahead - see ya tomorrow!
