Fledglings flying high in July - the Flylady thread

Hello and welcome to July's Flylady thread! This is a lovely friendly thread where we follow (sort of) the Flylady system in the hope of having organised homes. Some of us are more successful at this than others ;).

Newcomers are very welcome, please don't be put off by any abbreviations or general gossip. Please join in the gossip.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) will post information about the next day. This will be the current zone we are in, the decluttering/ tidying mission and the habit for the day / month. Generally this is done the evening before.

All information is available on the Flylady website www.flylady.net. On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails -
we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

There will be lots of information on this thread and you can also have a look around the (confusing at times) Flylady website:-

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

It is not a miracle and sometimes the missions are very optimistic but I work on the principle that something is better than nothing :)

Thanks for a great June thread SC.

Happy flying everyone Smile.

Cagliostro · 04/07/2017 14:12

Can't help on The Glare - the Caglets can't really read facial expressions so nothing like that works on them! :o

On way back from lovely morning at the nature park with friends. Enough time for a quick rest before it's back out for tap class (last one until September though, show on Sunday). Must get the next wash on though.

Stilllivinginazoo · 04/07/2017 17:21

stressy stand in front a mirror.recall event that seriously pissed you off.let yourself feel it and then look in the mirror... Follow with a very low voice that firm(sometimes almost gritted teeth angry)I said NO.emphasis on no,but not a shout.in time mine learned the look was enough....

Tadas cont still
*clean hob
*clear n clean dining table
*clear and clean coffee table

  • make banana,strawberry n almond mini muffins
  • collect lil zoo from archery(430)
  • quick couple muffins inhale as snack(she had swim at school today too) and now ovens on ready to do tea-beefburger,couscous and roasted asparagus
YesEinsteinsMumDid · 04/07/2017 17:53

ds is the same cag i have to say i am cross as he won't even read it in volume and expression of voice either a lot of the times.
but he totally does not get emotions at all.

Cagliostro · 04/07/2017 18:35

Greeeeeeey!!! Nice to see you, sorry you're feeling rubbish though. Chest infections are just horrendous.

Caglet is due early November, just over halfway now! Second attempt at 20 week scan tomorrow, hoping baby behaves this time. :o

Stilllivinginazoo · 04/07/2017 18:44

greeeey welcome back.

Greymalkin · 04/07/2017 20:25

We have a haughty corner too? Do tell.

Despite feeling lousy and moving very slowly I have some ta das to report:
Emptied all bins
Wiped out inside of one rather grotty bin
Loaded and unloaded dishwasher
Dishwasher topped up with rinse aid, salt and a cleaning solution cycle run
Wiped kitchen surfaces
Cats fed x2 and litter trays dealt with
Recycling sorted and junk mail cleared from hall way
Finished reading library book and thoroughly enjoyed it.

DS is going back to nursery tomorrow and DH is at home, so hopefully tomorrow will be a bit more productive.

Cagliostro · 04/07/2017 20:35

Haughty corner is due to a typo :o

Stilllivinginazoo · 04/07/2017 20:56

Haughty corner is a "zoo phone classic autocorrect moment"
Caused such amusement its kinda stuck...
I swear its OK when I look at it,then sodding phone alters it as press post!!

PurpleDaisies · 04/07/2017 21:29

Love the idea of a haughty corner. Grin

Not too much flying here but I am reaping the benefits of last night's cooking session and had lovely lunch and lovely dinner with almost no effort. I finally got a slow puncture fixed so my car no longer flashes huge warnings at me when I turn it on. I've done a load of washing plus a little bit of tidying and about to do marking and going to bed. The summer holidays can't come soon enough.

Afreshstartplease · 04/07/2017 21:56

OK so my glare is a bit like resting bitch face sometimes with raised eyebrows thrown in too

PurpleDaisies · 04/07/2017 22:00

I forgot glare tips. As a teacher of many years, mine reduces smell children to dust...

Seriously, all you need is a distinctive "I am not happy and don't mess with me" face with no hint of a smile that they associate with actual consequences. To start with it might need to be glare plus sharp instruction to stop or sending to room (or whatever) but once they get the idea, the look is usually enough.

Cagliostro · 04/07/2017 22:02

Einstein it took me a long time to realise how the Caglets didn't 'get' emotions. Despite the fact they generally wouldn't even know if I'd been crying (I would literally have to sob and burst into floods). I think the fact I'm autistic as well has made it quite difficult to see what's 'normal' behaviour TBH - a lot of stuff came up in their assessment that made me realise how much I'd missed!

In other news, I hate to sound like a martyr but man alive is it hard to get stuff done when you have a kid who doesn't fucking sleep!!!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 04/07/2017 22:22

Thanks zoo, Afresh and Purple for the excellent glare tips. I will start practising and report back Smile. Cag and Einstein, it must be difficult if DC struggle to read emotion (hope that is not the wrong thing for me to say).

Brilliant to have you back Grey SmileSmile.

Hi all

I'm not so great at the stare-glare; but can summon up a fog-horn of a voice when necessary. DD knows it's serious when I use that great Irish phrase "that was a little bit bold" [i.e. a huge understatement] and thanks to my late ma, it tends to come out with a slight accent too.

Zoo Much as I love the "haughty corner" I think you have surpassed yourself today with the "arse-licking" typo!! Grin Grin Grin Your fab lists put me to shame btw! You've done a mahoosive amount! Hope dd2 ok.

Lovely to have you back Grey! (And well done re: your list. Don't know how you did all that when you are feeling so rotten. Hope you can take it steady and recover soon. That chest infection sounds absolutely awful Flowers)

As for building project (thanks for asking) : we are going through a very difficult stage currently. Discovered that one wall was basically being help up 2 small gnarled tree branches, necessitating an expensive re-build, the prolongation of work for the entire month of July and no budget left to re-do residential bit of roof which means we are in for another bone-chillingly cold winter. Utterly self-inflicted but it's all just one big overwhelming mess atm tbh.

Hope the scan goes well tomorrow Cag (exciting!!)

Sounds as if we have the same dh Longtime!

Hope you enjoyed your precious hour to yourself Toostressy!

Waves to Rosa Afreshstart Purpledaisies and Einstein and everyone else!

Well everything went tits up today. Received a tearful call from dd at about 10.30 asking to be collected. Spoke to camp monitrice and she was bemused because she said dd had a fab day yesterday but dd was adamant she was coming home. Cue four hour drive there and back. Very disappointed for her because she had such a fabulous time last year. I think tiredness/post exam stress has caught up with her and she probably would have been fine if she had been allowed to sleep today but unfortunately (understandably) they can't leave her behind alone at base and the camp is very full on, long hikes every day and loads of other activities, and you have to be really on top form to enjoy it.

It's probably horrible of me to say it but, aside from feeling relief that dd is OK, feeling a bit flat tonight after all the effort (not to mention £££) that went in to it all, plus much needed three day holiday alone with dh going belly up. But I know that is selfishness on my part speaking. DD is blissfully unaware of those aspects of course! Also feel crap parent that she doesn't have enough confidence yet to tough these things out when all the others (some much younger than her) were all fine. I must be doing something very wrong I think.

Sorry for long moan! Time for bed I think. Tomorrow is another day and all of that!

Sanscollier · 04/07/2017 22:49

x posts

Thanks for links Toostressy (I must confess I had yet another day today with zero Flying)

Sorry you have had your hands full with your dd tonight Cag hope things are calmer now.

Longtime · 05/07/2017 00:37

Cag we are both tap dancing homeschoolers! I love tap though get so stressed out about shows.

SC I just had to start talking to dh about the sheets etc (do we say bed clothes - just had one of those weird brain moments where a word sounds made up?!) and he jumped in with "yes, I need to change the sheets - I noticed they smell"!!!! I told him to take a look at the pillows and pillow cases on the floor of the bedroom while he was at it Angry.

House here still tidy but dishwasher needs emptying. Too late to do it now as it'll disturb the neighbours. We were out a a Robbie Williams concert this evening so it got left. Excellent concert though!

Longtime · 05/07/2017 00:43

SC sorry, I've just read the rest of your post - I'm sorry for your traumatic day. Your dd sounds so much like mine. She always found it more difficult to deal with situations that most Belgian children seemed to breeze through. I put it down to her being used to being around me. Also, as we know, the school system here is so stressful and maybe she just needs some time to wind down and relax at home. I used to send the dss off on the occasional stage either with one another or with a friend but never bothered with dd.

Stilllivinginazoo · 05/07/2017 05:09

sc don't beat yourself up over dd coming home.we all get days when we are overwhelmed and exhausted and just want our mummy resilience isn't comparable to others and I am sure she will be a perfectly competant adult that copes with things.I admit I'd be quite marked over cost/lost of adult time but let's face it having kids it goes with the territory!big hugs.x

Cag good luck today

toostressy all these things take practise initially and the belief you can do it (and you can!)

I've given up with sleep.mix dd2 and bloody humidity...

Might as well make a start
< Hopes foxes is OK and didn't succumb full on mastitis>

Cheery if somewhat sleepy wingflaps to all...

Sanscollier · 05/07/2017 07:37

Morning all!

Thank you so much Longtime and Zoo - your posts have cheered me up no end - you are both right. I am just generally feeling a bit flat atm for no identifiable reason and that is casting a general grey pall over things I think and causing me to over-react! DD coped fine with camp last year after all. I think she needed more of a rest this time between end of term exam stress and setting off to do something new. And yes, of course this comes with the territory and worse things happen at sea etc!

Humid here too Zoo good luck with your early chore fest!

Longtime yes I think it takes a long time for our dc to acquire a similar level of "continental resilience" to their Belgian classmates! Reassuring to know it was the same for your dd!

I honestly don't think my dh would notice if the sheets were changed weekly or annually. It's bizarre isn't it?

Yes, Foxes hope mastitis has gone away and you are ok!

(Also BluePheasant hope you are ok too)

And good luck at the Cagletini viewing today Cag!

Feeling a bit "meh" and "cba" this morning. Just tried to buy scaffolding planks for my new veg plot only to be told that they only come in metal here. Railway sleepers are available but they are impregnated with creosote which I think I remember is now classed as a pollutant. Obviously going to have to track down some much more expensive alternative. House a pit and I just can't be bothered to sort it!

Have a good day everyone!
