Lost passport, HELP!!

I have read so many threads on here about lost passports, but I’m just at a loss as to what to do.
I’m due to go on our belated honeymoon to Thailand on Thursday, but cannot find my passport.

I have spent the whole of yesterday and today looking, even got my parents round to help as a fresh pair of eyes.
I have looked EVERYWHERE, every bag, coat, drawer (drawers pulled all the way out and the underneaths etc checked) in every single cupboard and drawer, under the microwave, washing machine etc.

I last had it about a month ago as we went to Venice for 2 nights, took a 15 minute taxi from the airport to home, have called the airport and taxi and nothing has been handed in. All I can think is that I must have thrown it out!!

I need a 7 day fast track appointment (will of course miss my flight, but some honeymoon is better than none), but worried about the strikes happening from tomorrow.

Has anyone got any recent experience of going to the passport office for an immediate passport?

I’m sick to my stomach 😩

Have you looked I the suitcase you used when you went to Venice? In the toiletries bag you took? Between the pages of a boom you’ve been reading?

TokyoSushi · 02/04/2023 20:17

Oh no!! No experience but I have done this before and it did turn up, no experience of the fast track appointment but hopefully somebody can advise on that. The likelihood is that it is in your house. You likely can't see for looking now are understandably in a panic. Can you invite more people round to look? My friend found mine, it was somewhere fairly obvious.

LubaLuca · 02/04/2023 20:17

It's not in the scanner/printer? Have you needed an image of it for anything?

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 02/04/2023 20:17

Sorry OP, no experience of the fast tack but just wanted to send hugs.

  • just wanted to check, though I’m sure you have, whoever you travelled with to Venice, it’s not with their passport / in their travel bag?
IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 02/04/2023 20:18

Every pocket of every bag you own.

Do you have e a printer that is also scanner/copier? On the copy surface of that?

SmartHome · 02/04/2023 20:19

every time I think ive lost mine it is, as others have said, either in a bag or on the printer. Good luck!

Gardengirl108 · 02/04/2023 20:20

I have experience of getting a same day passport: secure fast track appointment online, pay the fee, go to appointment with all the paperwork. Then go back at the allotted time (same day) to collect. My collection time was 5 hours after the appointment. Good luck!

smooththecat · 02/04/2023 20:20

Suitcase pockets. Are on the day in person appointments still available I did that last time. Walk of shame.

LubaLuca · 02/04/2023 20:28

Could you have accidentally taken it to work the day after you got back from Venice? I know I often don't switch my bags immediately when I've been somewhere so I can take all sorts of weird items into work on my first day back after a holiday.

bcalice · 02/04/2023 20:33

Thank you for all your suggestion, flew with ryanair and the bag I took has been checked by me, my husband & parents, no sign. Same as the clothes I wore.

my husbands passport (who I went to Venice with) is exactly where I would expect mine to have been, in a top drawer - although I do have a recollection of taking it out to test out whether to take a document holder for Thailand. Have found the document holder and it isn’t in there. Have taken out every single drawer where my husbands passport was found and checked the underneath/above/behind and nothing.

my SIL is going to come round tomorrow to try and have a look, keep your fingers crossed for me 😩

Oh amazing!! Was this for a lost passport? Or was it renewal? As I’ve been told by the passport office the quickest one I’ll be able to do is the 7 day fast track as it’s lost! 😩

It's going to be somewhere! Keep looking.

Behind a radiator? Under the printer?

RandomMess · 02/04/2023 20:46

I think you've put it down on a surface and it's been "popped" somewhere or the clothes when you tried out the document wallet.

MumofSpud · 02/04/2023 20:51

The side of the car seat you were sitting?

Theimpossiblegirl · 02/04/2023 20:52

Could it be down the back of the drawer? Or in the space/drawer below?

Undertheoldlindentree · 02/04/2023 21:03

I would lie down on your bed and just try to think methodically through the day where you tested it in the document holder. Whereabouts in the house did you do this? Could you have been interrupted by a phone call or the doorbell/amazon parcel etc. Put it down on the way to the door? Maybe laid it on a bookshelf on the way thinking to keep it safe? Put it on a side table, in a drawer or propped behind a plant pot? On the dining table and later accidentally scooped it up with magazine/post/folded washing while tidying up? Dressing gown pocket? Down the side of sofa cushions? Was the document wallet new? Could it be in the packaging?

One of my DC recently found a lost passport by skimmimg through all his WhatsApp messages, texts and Google calendar for the period when he though he'd lost it. It turned out he'd taken it somewhere for a DBS check and it was still in the envelope in a jacket, with other evidence he'd taken along months earlier.

You've only got to go back a month so this should be a bit easier. Good luck!

bevelino · 02/04/2023 21:06

OP, turn your house upside down to find it. It will be hidden down the side of something.

ElizaSkye · 02/04/2023 21:09

Just on the off chance- I once lost mine and it was in the lining of my case. There was a rip at the bottom of a pocket and it had slid into the fabric lining

LubaLuca · 02/04/2023 21:14

The fact you had a little test of the document holder is promising. You'd have realised at that point if your passport wasn't in the drawer as expected, and you'd have started the search for it then. It's got to be somewhere in the house, and probably not far from where you found the wallet

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 02/04/2023 21:15

Is it in the washing machine? That's where mine was.

Oakyloaky · 02/04/2023 21:17

Have you thoroughly checked your car ? Have you packed any boxes for any reason?

Sprig1 · 02/04/2023 21:18

Pretend you are moving house. Move furniture, take it apart and 'box' everything up. You will find it.

mrsbyers · 02/04/2023 21:19

Have you needed it for ID anywhere , could it be at work if you work outside the house ?

That was for a renewal, sorry if I got your hopes up. But please do check with them again. I feel sure you will find it in the meantime, some great suggestions made.
