Lost passport, HELP!!

I have read so many threads on here about lost passports, but I’m just at a loss as to what to do.
I’m due to go on our belated honeymoon to Thailand on Thursday, but cannot find my passport.

I have spent the whole of yesterday and today looking, even got my parents round to help as a fresh pair of eyes.
I have looked EVERYWHERE, every bag, coat, drawer (drawers pulled all the way out and the underneaths etc checked) in every single cupboard and drawer, under the microwave, washing machine etc.

I last had it about a month ago as we went to Venice for 2 nights, took a 15 minute taxi from the airport to home, have called the airport and taxi and nothing has been handed in. All I can think is that I must have thrown it out!!

I need a 7 day fast track appointment (will of course miss my flight, but some honeymoon is better than none), but worried about the strikes happening from tomorrow.

Has anyone got any recent experience of going to the passport office for an immediate passport?

I’m sick to my stomach 😩

How is your husband dealing with the situation?

any children?

EstherUrsula · 03/04/2023 08:11

get your diary out.

methodically go through the days in between then and now, only four weeks, to retrace

No children and cannot fault my husband, he’s been amazing. He has a very ‘oh well, sh*t happens, we’ll get over it’ attitude, whereas I’ve been crying and stressing for 3 days now.
he’s obviously looked everywhere too and he’s not a panicker like me. I’m very lucky as if it was the other way round, I’d probably be so annoyed - lesson for me to learn I guess!

I am sorry OP. Glad your husband is being pragmatic and calm. Keeping my fingers crossed for your SIL to find it! I have no advice sorry. Car glovebox?

tribpot · 03/04/2023 08:21

Yes, I'd be highly pissed off if my DH had lost his passport and it looked as if a big holiday couldn't happen as a result. Our passports live in a fire safe to prevent this kind of situation but every time there is a thread about it I go and check they're still in there, as this is so easy to do.

I’ve used the fast track, same day service. I had a photo of my old passport ID page although I’ve no idea if this was needed or not I just remember taking it with me. I went with the forms filled out, had a face to face appointment then collected my passport about 4/5 hours later.

I really hope you get away.

Greengrassgone · 03/04/2023 08:22

As pp have said sit down with a cup of tea and go through all you emails and messages since Venice. Realky think about each day and try and think about what you did. You never know you may remember doing something you have totally forgotten.

Years ago and not in peak holiday time. Yes?

KickboxingWanker · 03/04/2023 08:27

My friend did this years ago - arranged to go to ppt office cancelled the old one and was issued with a new one - I’m aware you can’t do that now.

however when he got home, he moved his packed suitcase from the spare bed and there was the old ppt.

have you packed yet - check everything even if it’s not possible for it to be there.
did you use it to check in online? If so where were you when you did that. Good luck.

Okay just gone through every single picture/video/deleted pic I’ve taken since Venice, inspected my work desk/bedside tables in the background of the pictures in case I could see it on there.
gone through every single email/order and my calendar and nothing has jogged my memory!
really am just so confused as to how it’s disappeared in 4/5 weeks.

thank you for all your help guys, I’ve done every suggestion but home my SIL magically finds it 🥲

In the pantry? I lost something recently and could not find it anywhere. It was next to the breakfast cereals in the kitchen cupboard. Then remembered I had it in my hand as i went in the cupboard and out it in the side to get something out. Swept up everything when putting it back in the cupboard. I was going mad as I knew it was somewhere in the house. So check behind your cereals! Or under mats?

TheActualDuck · 03/04/2023 08:29

Have you used it for ID for buying currency for your honeymoon?

Did you scoop it up with some clean towels and put it in the airing cupboard?

The fact that you remember trying it in a document wallet is key, as pp suggested, sit quietly and calmly and and focus on that day, go through every step, who was there?, did you speak to anyone else?, take a phone call?, get distracted by another task?, what were you wearing and what did you do next?

Also, say a prayer to St Anthony.

Ohmych · 03/04/2023 08:30

I really hope you find it.

You did that in 10 mins? OP take it each very slowly and methodically rather than rushing

Rayn22 · 03/04/2023 08:35

Look everywhere you have already looked. Sometimes you just don't see it. Good luck!

Sirius3030 · 03/04/2023 08:36

A family members passport was put on a small table in the hall.
Someone else put some junk mail on top.
Another person put the whole pile in the recycling bin.
Family member found the passport with minutes to spare.

Losingmymind85 · 03/04/2023 08:38

My passport was lost, which was completely unheard of as it lives in one particular place only. Tore the house apart and ended up getting a replacement.
Found it the day we got back. It somehow made its way into the folded clothes in my drawers. Still no idea how but if you haven't already, go through all your clothes in your wardrobe and drawers.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 03/04/2023 08:41

What happened when you tried it in the document holder? Did you decide not to use it? Why? Think about your thought process. Is there something else you decided to use instead?

Did you preemptively decide to pack it? Have you checked every bag/coat/pile/washbag/anything that you are planning to take with you?

Did you print any travel docs, and put them with it?

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 03/04/2023 08:42

What colour is it? Your not looking for a red passport and it's blue, or vice versa, are you?

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 03/04/2023 08:43

Where were you when you tried it in the document holder? What day of week and time of day?

What did you do right afterwards?

Can you find a hypnotist to walk you through the memory?

It's got to be in your home or out with recycling. What is your routine for dealing with incoming post / outgoing recycling of paper?

Could it be stuffed inside the cover of your husband's passport? Sure it's not in a pocket of the document holder?

AntiHop · 03/04/2023 08:57

Is there any chance there's a second document holder?

I found some missing keys in my underwear drawer

metellaestinatrio · 03/04/2023 08:59

The document wallet day is key. When I lost my wedding, engagement and eternity rings (similarly had looked everywhere and was about to turn the bins out!) I calmed down and mentally walked through what I had been doing when I was last wearing them and when I took them off - turned out they were inside the pages of a recipe book! I had taken them off because I was preparing raw chicken, left them on the page of the recipe and then put the book away on the shelf without realising they were there. So I would suggest you sit down, take a deep breath and retrace the document wallet day to see if any clues come to mind.

ChocSaltyBalls · 03/04/2023 09:11

Ok when was the document wallet incident? Worst case scenario, you did throw it out. Have the bins been emptied? Have you been through the bins if not? What did you do when you tried the document wallet?

GrannieD · 03/04/2023 09:18

I would be checking the bins at this stage, just in case you threw it out with the document holder packaging. Good luck OP.

I once threw mine and sons in the woodburner. Expensive mistake !
