Lost passport, HELP!!

I have read so many threads on here about lost passports, but I’m just at a loss as to what to do.
I’m due to go on our belated honeymoon to Thailand on Thursday, but cannot find my passport.

I have spent the whole of yesterday and today looking, even got my parents round to help as a fresh pair of eyes.
I have looked EVERYWHERE, every bag, coat, drawer (drawers pulled all the way out and the underneaths etc checked) in every single cupboard and drawer, under the microwave, washing machine etc.

I last had it about a month ago as we went to Venice for 2 nights, took a 15 minute taxi from the airport to home, have called the airport and taxi and nothing has been handed in. All I can think is that I must have thrown it out!!

I need a 7 day fast track appointment (will of course miss my flight, but some honeymoon is better than none), but worried about the strikes happening from tomorrow.

Has anyone got any recent experience of going to the passport office for an immediate passport?

I’m sick to my stomach 😩

Venice a month ago, cold then?
I’d be rechecking coats and jackets I wore on that trip, particularly what I wore to return in.

LiliLil · 03/04/2023 10:20

Have ten minutes now, calmly. Pray to St Anthony.

And then go through your whole house, room by room with your sister in law. One area of the room at a time, everything out, checked, furniture taken apart if necessary. It will take you all day but it’s the only way.

specialk9 · 03/04/2023 10:21

Have you thrown the packaging for the document holder ? Might have it been scooped up with that when you were checking it fit ? 😔

I second this.

And also laundry from when you returned from Venice. I hate to admit it but sometimes MY laundry from a holiday could be sitting in my laundry pile for weeks on end.

What about inside your husband's passport? I know it would have been obvious but sometimes in a panic, it could have been missed.

Skaty · 03/04/2023 10:25

You say your husband’s passport was where yours should have been. Is there any chance he has picked up your passport by mistake, realised when he went to do a task and has then left it somewhere random to put away later?

Try looking in what you think is the most unlikely, most ridiculous places first- eg PP's post about the pantry.

Check the freezer, fridge, kids toyboxes (if applicable) etc.

Then move onto the next unlikely- towel bales, toiletries drawers/baskets, toilet cistern and so on.

IME, it'll either be in one of those places, or you'll have a brainwave about where it is.

CornishTiger · 03/04/2023 10:32

did you end up measuring it after the document
holder wasn’t right size? Look where you’d have done that- where the tape measure is.

SoundsLikeALlama · 03/04/2023 10:33

you poor thing, sending my 'finding eyes' to you (I always used to say that to the kids when they insisted they had lost something!)

CornishTiger · 03/04/2023 10:34

I found birth certificate years after moving because I’d been tidying kids rooms and they had been in wardrobe - I have put them in the bottom of the storage box and put Lego on top. For year’s kids has played with that box. One day I tipped it out……

DiscoBeat · 03/04/2023 10:34

Yes bin too! My Dad lost his wallet once and it had his late wife's wedding ring in it. I had a hunch about the bin as he had a ware paper basket near his chair. I went through all of the wheelie bin and found the wallet.

I like this suggestion. That document holder is the key to this mystery I think.

whitepepper86 · 03/04/2023 10:35

Did you buy anything from the airport/duty free? Could it be amongst those thing or in the carrier bag?

DiscoBeat · 03/04/2023 10:36

Down the sides of the bed or the foot of the mattress? If it's flat and upright against an edge you might have missed it.

My passport was lost, which was completely unheard of as it lives in one particular place only. Tore the house apart and ended up getting a replacement.
Found it the day we got back. It somehow made its way into the folded clothes in my drawers. Still no idea how but if you haven't already, go through all your clothes in your wardrobe and drawers.

My Driving Licence did exactly the same, found it in a pile of DH’s folded t shirts about a week after it’s replacement arrived.

Hi all, been looking through all your suggestions and been have done basically everything suggested. Will do it all again today once SIL arrives, I’m meant to be working today by I have a very kind manager who I spoke to in tears this morning and he said do what you have to do!!

the problem with the document wallet is that it’s such a vague memory that I could have done this about 6 months ago for a different holiday and really just not sure!

I methodically took the rooms apart one by one, including looking in clothes, towels like you all suggested and unfortunately nothing.

I also just rang my local airport and the local tax firms and the town hall and nothing - which makes me think it must have made it home. But I have honestly looked EVERYWHERE. have followed all your suggestions, plus read loads of other forums for ideas. Meditated, hoped it would come to me in a dream the last couple nights and nothing!!!

currently sat refreshing the fast track appointment service webpage in the hopes they come up, as the lady at the passport office I spoke to this morning said they should still be coming up.

if not, although my flight is Thursday, today is my deadline to reschedule as I get 72 hours (9:15pm tonight) so will need to make a decision as to what to do very soon 😭

Forgot to add, I just think I MUST have thrown it out as I have looked EVERYWHERE!

Apologies if anyone has mentioned this or you’ve already checked,
have you checked in a kitchen cupboard? My husbands was randomly in one of ours because he found it on the side and put it there safely in case it got lost.
I hope you find it 🙏🏼

GCRules · 03/04/2023 10:48

It's stressing me out just reading this thread!

Good luck 🤞

HumourReplacementTherapy · 03/04/2023 10:49

Did you need to enter your passport details on your booking recently?
Do you need a visa for Thailand? Could you have needed passport for that?
Have you opened a government gateway account for any reason and needed to verify ID?
Which coat did you travel home in from Venice?
Fingers crossed for you!

pontipinemum · 03/04/2023 10:49

A quick little prayer to St Anthony won't hurt! Ask out loud and don't forget to pay him if he helps.

You poor things though. Hopefully SIL will help. I'm sure you have looked everywhere but cool/ calmly/ methodically with SIL go through each room. After she had a 30minutes quick sweep of where she thinks it could be.

I recently lost my wallet, it was behind a photo frame in the sitting room. I have no recollection what so ever of putting it there. It was missing for weeks

prettybird · 03/04/2023 10:57

I once found a "lost" passport the day before I was due to fly in the boot of my car under where a suitcase had been Confused

I was in full-on panic mode as my boyfriend and I had split up and I thought it might still be at his place on the other side of the country (we'd booked the holiday together but he had changed his booking so I was going on my own it was an activity holiday so ok to go on on my own ).

Questionsbarisurg · 03/04/2023 11:03

@bcalice I don’t know if you are religious but this has helped me find many a thing and I always pledge(and do) I’ll put £20 in the charity box when it’s found it might be worth a try

Lost passport, HELP!!
Ursualesther · 03/04/2023 11:05

Why did you call the town hall?

Ursualesther · 03/04/2023 11:09

I can’t understand why you haven’t checked in already or provided API info?

Boriswentcamping · 03/04/2023 11:09

How frustrating and upsetting for you :(

I think it is really unlikely you would have thrown out out but I understand how you would think that in all the panic. Maybe take a walk and stop looking for a few hours. Try do something to distract you then come back to it with a clearer head. I loose lots of things and I'm always amazed at where they eventually turn up. Do you have a big old house with lots of places to loose things or a modern minimalist flat? I think that will determine how easy it is to search.
