Lost passport, HELP!!

bcalice · 02/04/2023 20:14

I have read so many threads on here about lost passports, but I’m just at a loss as to what to do.
I’m due to go on our belated honeymoon to Thailand on Thursday, but cannot find my passport.

I have spent the whole of yesterday and today looking, even got my parents round to help as a fresh pair of eyes.
I have looked EVERYWHERE, every bag, coat, drawer (drawers pulled all the way out and the underneaths etc checked) in every single cupboard and drawer, under the microwave, washing machine etc.

I last had it about a month ago as we went to Venice for 2 nights, took a 15 minute taxi from the airport to home, have called the airport and taxi and nothing has been handed in. All I can think is that I must have thrown it out!!

I need a 7 day fast track appointment (will of course miss my flight, but some honeymoon is better than none), but worried about the strikes happening from tomorrow.

Has anyone got any recent experience of going to the passport office for an immediate passport?

I’m sick to my stomach 😩

How stressful for you. I read years ago that something missing in your house is normally within 10 meters of where you'd expect it to be, it's always worked when I've lost something. Good luck!

marniemae · 02/04/2023 21:29

This happened to me and it had slipped under a chest of drawers when I was unpacking. Have you checked under all furniture with a torch and also it might have fallen down the back of a draw if you normally put it in a draw

smooththecat · 02/04/2023 21:37

I’ve checked online and there are no fast-track appointments available. Check most likely places where documents are. Check in and between books. All pockets of all bags. Anywhere it can slip down behind or between furniture? Take out drawers and look behind again. Any envelopes of documents anywhere? Any photocopiers at work etc. Thailand document holder seems
like the key event. Where would you have been checking that? Online?

Boriswentcamping · 02/04/2023 21:39

How stressful for you! No idea about passport applications but I second going through your photos and what's app messages from the time you last had it to jog your memory as to anything you might have been doing / wearing.

Also look though anything papery. So go through any files of bills, forms, random papers, even things that have been filed and put away. Take things out of folders and piles one at a time shake out the files, put them back one at a time. Look though any magazines / books you have read. Children's artwork, craft piles. I recently found my Apple headphones in a pile of my daughters pictures. They had been missing for ages!! It is easy for things to get scooped up in papers inadvertently.

Also look down the backs of things including furniture / and also under things - use a torch. Check every jacket / cardigan / avert pocket you have. Try be methodical and thorough with each search and so you are not searching the same place twice.. easier said than done!! I hope you find it! And hopefully someone will be a long with advice on replacements

greenlychee · 02/04/2023 21:40

this might sound weird OP but have you recently scanned it into your computer? Can you look inside your printer / scanner as I lost mine and forgot that I scanned it for a visa / passport thing.

2bazookas · 02/04/2023 21:42

Have you looked in your suitcase and carry-on cabin bag?

Trumpton · 02/04/2023 21:50

When I lost mine (they day before travelling!) it was because I had scooped it up with shoes I decided not to take and threw it into the wardrobe with them!
I got a new passport that day ( it was 10 years ago and possible then). It involved downloading forms, getting a neighbour to sign them, taxi to government offices ( I was crying too much to drive😪) and taxi home. I found the passport later that night when I decided to take the rejected shoes anyway.
Sit quietly for a while…. Leave £1 out for St Anthony… and sleeep. It will come to you.
PS check your shoes!

Suzi9989 · 02/04/2023 21:55

Have u open any bank accounts? Collected any parcels where you needed a form of ID? In the car?
Hope it turns up

StopFeckingFaffing · 02/04/2023 22:04

Have you needed to supply your passport details for online check in?
If yes then where would you normally sit when dealing with admin?
Could it be on your desk between paperwork?

transformandriseup · 02/04/2023 22:05

I am the worst at losing things and it's so hard to think straight when you are panicking but I would think back to the last time you had it and replay that day in your head, what you were wearing, what bag/jacket you took out and search these places. If that doesn't find it go through each room top to bottom one thing at a time.

Places my passport has turned up: down the back of a drawer, inside the scanner, in a jacket pocket, inside a weird pocket in my suitcase. Good luck.

iwasthewalrus · 02/04/2023 22:14

I would also look in places you’re sure it definitely isn’t. We once found OH’s lost passport in a box which hadn’t been opened since we moved House despite having had the passport on moving day (needed for ID at letting agency). Weird. Good luck!

purplecorkheart · 02/04/2023 22:20

If you have a pile of to read books on your bedside locker look there. Mine seems end up there regularly. Look on top of the fridge etc, particularly if it is built in and there is a slight gap on the top.

Iguanainanigloo · 02/04/2023 22:28

I'd do a mammoth sort out/tidy of the entire house, room by room, tidying and organising as you go (so it doesn't feel like wasted time if you don't come across it) literally every drawer, every box/bag/cupboard/shelf. Room by room. Don't skip anything, and you will come across it.

yewtrees · 02/04/2023 22:30

Got an emergency appointment for a lost passport. Very easy. You can generally make the appointment for the next day and then it is guaranteed within I think five working days? Mine came within the timeframe. But you need to be prepared for the application - will need someone to certify. Do-able but you need to be organised

OnTheBoardwalk · 02/04/2023 22:32

you'll really struggle to get any appointment now

based on personal experience, in the scanner, in the folds of another document in the special things folder, in a laptop bag in the car, underneath a drawer when it’s fallen behind

good luck

Sparklynewcareer · 02/04/2023 22:37

Gardengirl108 · 02/04/2023 20:20

I have experience of getting a same day passport: secure fast track appointment online, pay the fee, go to appointment with all the paperwork. Then go back at the allotted time (same day) to collect. My collection time was 5 hours after the appointment. Good luck!

Same as above, it was nearly 10 years ago but I had a same day service. You have to hang around for the day to wait for it but it’s well worth it!! See if you can get one of these appointments - you may have to travel for it tho.
good luck!!!!

macncheeeesey · 02/04/2023 22:57

It's in your house somewhere so you will find it. Where were you when you where checking the holder thing? Check all your piles of papers, bits and pieces drawers, under sofa, side of sofa, back/side of drawers. Meditate on it. Mentally split each room in your house into grids and check each section thoroughly. You will find it!!!!!!

Bexi3 · 02/04/2023 23:12

Is the drawer you store it in quite full? I lost both my kids passports in a kitchen drawer years ago and found them on the floor at the bottom of the cabinet when we ripped the kitchen out. Expensive mistake.

NewShoesRub · 02/04/2023 23:16

Do you have a drawer where you keep your holiday type clothes? Perhaps in there? Or on a shelf near your laptop?

NewShoesRub · 02/04/2023 23:18

Bedside table drawer?

frustratedtenant · 02/04/2023 23:19

My daughter had this, luckily she has a second passport that she was able to fly with, and then I later found it behind the chest of drawers in her room.

My son lost his passport recently abroad and I was able to get him an emergency travel document from UK consulate in NY, but I think that only works to enter the UK not the other way round.

eleanoreleanoreleanor · 02/04/2023 23:20

I had great success when I prayed to St Anthony to find a £70 voucher.

Also, if you think it should be in the drawer with DP passport it may well be there or very close. Have you looked inside your DP passport in case they got shoved together? Really concentrate where you feel it should be and look around there several times.

I really hope you find it soon OP! Good luck

Houseplantmad · 02/04/2023 23:22

Is it amongst some folded clothes i.e. was on top of some and then more were placed on top. It’s happened to me when getting ready for holidays.

Fromwetome · 02/04/2023 23:25

once I pulled the bed away from the wall and found my passport there randomly. If I hadn’t of done it I would NEVER have known it was there. I didn’t need my passport at the time but was absolutely dumbstruck to see it on the floor under the bed head. So my advice after how ridiculous it was…move your bed and check under it.
