Accommodation at Nottingham Uni

DD got a place through clearing last Thursday. They guarantee an offer of accommodation. She put an application in immediately and then dashed off for a fortnight's holiday!

Not heard anything yet. Anyone have any knowledge of accommodation at Nottingham?

Interesting. Really really wants on campus catered en-suite though….and not sure if it’s rarer than hens teeth! It will be a bit of a deal breaker I think - if it has to be shared bathroom I think she may firm another Uni instead.

@ReservationDeclined my DD wanted en suite but got a room (v large with own sink) sharing a bathroom with one other. Was fantastic as she immediately made a friend. They never seemed to clash on showers and are still friends now, 5 years later.

Does anyone on here know if you put Nottingham as first choice what the chances are of getting catered en-suite on campus halls? Not hugely bothered about which halls on campus but really really wants en-suite.

Is it like Ticketmaster and you have to go on at midnight with three devices when it goes live in April?! And ensure you have firmed a week or so before?

DS1 got catered en-suite. He went online at 8am with one device and put his choices in. Got first choice. He had a great first year. Beautiful campus, catered food very average and en-suite vey small but he wouldn't have changed anything.

DD went through clearing and was offered ensuite catered halls on campus even though she hadn't requested it! Very expensive.

I was assuming the expense wouldn't be an issue as it's probably more than the full grant.

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto · 14/10/2023 21:02

Loan not grant. If only it was a grant.

mumsneedwine · 14/10/2023 21:03

@ErnestMilton as some consolation, private rentals are nice and cheap from year 2.

DD rejected the catered halls (£8k+) and has a nice flat near Raleigh Park for just under £6k.

How much are the private rentals?

@ErnestMilton DD I paid about £95 a week. For a decent house in Dunkirk and a v lovely house up by the park. So much cheaper than my other one in Bristol where it was £165. And that's gone up.

Thanks @mumsneedwine
When do they start looking for 2nd year accommodation?

I'd like to know that too Wink

@SiouxsieSiouxStiletto @ErnestMilton unfortunately quite soon. Think houses start being marketed for next year now but think most people start looking just before or after Xmas. It's too early but the nice houses go. However Nottingham has loads of student housing so there will still be things later on. It depends where in Lenton/Dunkirk they want to be.

Sssudio · 16/10/2023 07:15

Did the laptop arrive @londonmummy1966 ?

I really hope they don't need to look for next issue yet, DS gets on well with his flatmates but doesn't quite have his 'tribe' yet.

I lived in West Bridgford when I lived out, think it's v posh now, but I was studying at Clifton (no way was living there). DH was in the Meadows, hoping Lenton/Dunkirk slightly less lively than there!

TBH I think once DS sees what student halls are like he may opt to stay in Broadgate next year!

Sssudio · 16/10/2023 07:51

^student houses!

londonmummy1966 · 16/10/2023 14:36

@Sssudio - yes it arrived on Satuurday morning - without the note to tell her what the password was..... Luckily DH thought it might be a default one for the provider and tried the one her sister's came with and it worked!!

I can't believe they have to start thinking about 2nd year so soon, when they are just about adjusting to 1st year.

Dare I ask - is there are any halls which are catered for 2nd years?

He is loving the food in halls and by the time he comes home at 5:30 from a full day of lectures with a couple of breaks in between he just wants to eat and he is pretty exhausted !

Not sure about catered for Y2. I know there are second years in Broadgate but that's self-catering.

DS has some pretty long days too, think it was 6 tonight. He seems to be managed though I think.

Blubell46 · 16/10/2023 21:08

@SiouxsieSiouxStiletto ahh thank you...

Allloveisbeautiful · 17/10/2023 13:39

Has anyone’s DC had lectures or seminars cancelled yet? DS had his lecture cancelled this morning-not sure why….🤷🏻‍♀️

Allloveisbeautiful · 17/10/2023 14:10

and this afternoon is online…..I was afraid of this…

OneInEight · 17/10/2023 14:45

ds2 has a lot of online stuff anyway so I really hope they don't cancel the face-to-face contact that he does have.

Don't know but there seems to be a lot more online stuff than the one lecture a week we were promised.

Allloveisbeautiful · 17/10/2023 15:55

DH is not surprised but I am pretty disappointed tbh

wwyd2021medicine · 18/10/2023 19:46

Re second yr accommodation, yes I think they all try to pal up early and find a house asap. It is a relief to have it out of the way but friendships do change of course.
DD's boyfriend didn't have his sorted early as he was waiting on possible years in industry. He got a house in July which is fab - has its own drive and a bath which DD loves. Also rented to 4 people when it's actually a house for 5 and it's no more expensive than others are paying.

Allloveisbeautiful · 24/10/2023 07:51

Morning all! Thread has gone a bit quiet so thought I’d check in and see how everyone’s DC are doing? DD and I are visiting for the day on Thursday. DD (14) is very excited about seeing DS and a new city with new shops 😂😂
