Accommodation at Nottingham Uni

DD got a place through clearing last Thursday. They guarantee an offer of accommodation. She put an application in immediately and then dashed off for a fortnight's holiday!

Not heard anything yet. Anyone have any knowledge of accommodation at Nottingham?

I actually went through all the accommodation on the website just before results day to see what was left as Nottingham is first come first served and they update it as it gets booked. Based on your criteria there is a good chance she could get Raleigh Park actually. There are still rooms available at Nottingham Two as an alternative but pretty much all the SC next to campus was booked up straight away. My son finally got his email today so hopefully she will hear anytime now.

Wiwikau have been sharing a discount code for Student Rooster this week. I didn't see what it was actually for but a few people were talking about it earlier on a Nottingham post.

I want CHEAP and uncatered.
Poor naive creature that I am, I'd budgeted £5k for the room plus weekly allowance for food that she could make herself and therefore eat.

Student Roost is £10k plus!

Fuck that, that's ridiculous. My sister wouldn't have paid that much for my niece and it was definitely a student roost one.

I would be tempted to book a hotel for the first 3/4 nights and then get a cancellation. Loads don't turn up on the day.

I think Broadgate is about £4.5k?

On Tuesday, first thing, go on portal, ring them, aswell. Hopefully you can change easily.

Go on TSR as well, sometimes you get students trying to offload rooms when they've had a change of plan.

Oh my god! They've offered her Sherwood Hall. It's catered - she'll starve. It's over £8k - we'll bloody starve if we have to pay that.

The halls are amazing. She won't starve (but apologies if I missed something in the OP). The food is fine and it's a great place to be.

What's student roost? Also it's only a year and then she can rent with friends. Lenton boulevard area is where most the students live but it is a bit scary. Beeston probably better

£5k is still a lot of money if you don't have it.

Oblomov23 · 25/08/2023 21:06

Albion £130.50 - 44 weeks: £5,742
Broadgate 131 - 44 weeks: £5,764

I'm assuming they're full as DD wasn't offered them.

DS stayed first year in Broadgate was very happy with it. Self catered and at the cheaper end costwise. Rest of time lodged in Lenton, nice shared houses although I did see a rat in the backyard when visiting 😧they didn't come in the house though 😁

Fourcandlesx · 25/08/2023 21:33

We managed to change my son's accommodation today and did it over live chat so you should be ok for Tuesday. He wanted to stay on campus so I asked what was available and was told there were single study rooms in Sherwood and Nightingale on University Park and that there was availability in most halls on Jubilee. I don't know whether there is any cheaper SC on Jubilee Campus but that might be worth looking at as the free hopper bus runs between the two until about midnight. I was surprised to get anything on campus to be honest as most halls have been booked up for months. I think it's a good time to contact them though as they seem to have sent out all the offers and people may have dropped out etc so rooms have been released.

ErnestMilton · 25/08/2023 21:37

Thanks. I'd booked today off work to try and sort accommodation but was called in because we were short staffed. No way am I going in on Tuesday til I've sorted this!

We've been liaising with accommodation to see if DD can switch. I think there is no, or very little SC accommodation on campus and everything which is close by gets booked up early. We were told everything on campus is booked up, some availability at Newark and Southgate (Jubilee Campus).

Blubell46 · 26/08/2023 06:04

Hi all,

I have just seen this thread and my ds is going to Nottingham! We went for catered which I am now worried about since reading the threads the food seems crap! Luckily he is not a fussy eater..so let's see!

He has got Sherwood Halls...they moved him from another hall ( which I can't remember) since they are renovating!

Hope these halls are okay?

ErnestMilton · 26/08/2023 07:30

@Blubell46 I think the catered halls are fine if your DC aren't fussy eaters. My DD is very fussy. She loves junk but t has to be the right junk 🙄

25 years ago I managed to move out of catered halls at Nottingham to self catering at Broadgate in the first few weeks of term. Mainly down to the crap food and the expense, seems some things never change!

We spoke to a few of students on the offer holders open day and they seemed to say that if you're not that fussy, you'll be fine. Plus it's very social with everyone eating together and it gives you more time for studying or activities. He'll be fine Wink

Blubell46 · 26/08/2023 07:40

@SiouxsieSiouxStiletto

Thank you.x

Oblomov23 · 26/08/2023 09:55

I ate at Rutland twice, when visiting ds1. Choices, salad, spicy chicken. Was fine.
Plus as pp says its social, forces even shy children to come down sit and eat, and chat. Plus they get £12 ? Or £15 as part of the weekly deal to buy lunches at various food points. It's fine.

Fourcandlesx · 29/08/2023 08:26

@ErnestMilton good luck today. As I said, we were able to swap accommodation over the live chat but it took about 20 minutes of waiting to get connected to a real person - they were very helpful when we did though.

This is probably obvious but if you can have a second computer or screen available to check out any accommodation they suggest then that's helpful too. Broadgate would be by far the best option for her if anything has come up as it's SC and right next to University Park campus. It always fills up really quickly but cancellations are a real possibility. Most other accommodation will require a bus to campus but they are free from Jubilee about every 15 minutes and run until midnight.

It's a bit strange that she was offered catered when you applied for SC but it might be because the catered is owned by the university so they like to try and fill that up first.

Hope you get it sorted ok

ErnestMilton · 30/08/2023 21:14

Thank you @Fourcandlesx

Broadgate is full but she's been offered Madison Garden near Jubilee campus.

I think!

I went to Nottingham eons ago and was catered hall. Loved it . I don’t remember the food ! It was so great being on campus I felt sorry for everyone not in balls the first year. Then most students live in Lenton.

Clearly went to a different bit of Nottingham uni than my daughter. Food was awful.

local housing is also expensive and pretty awful. Even the cheapest will hit your £5k without food etc.

she’s going into third year on the Malaysia campus stats in 3 weeks currently in travelling in Bali.

if your DD gets chance on her course they’ve campuses in Malaysia and China.

Fantastic uni buy my daughter hates the city. But she’s more of an outdoor person than a city person.

Also they get a card for lunches they can use across the campus.
