Accommodation at Nottingham Uni

DD got a place through clearing last Thursday. They guarantee an offer of accommodation. She put an application in immediately and then dashed off for a fortnight's holiday!

Not heard anything yet. Anyone have any knowledge of accommodation at Nottingham?

I hope they are all having a great time. It’s a beautiful campus.

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto · 05/10/2023 18:44

That's such a shame @Sssudio. Do you think it's Influenza that's doing the rounds or done grotty virus?

Sssudio · 05/10/2023 21:18

@SiouxsieSiouxStiletto , he and his flatmates have had to downgrade from going clubbing to instead going to the pub as they all feel too ill for clubbing. But after all still making it to lectures so I’m not too worried.

It doesn't sound like the 'flu then thankfully. I've had 'flu twice and both times I could barely stand to go to the loo.

Glad he's still making it to lectures and going out, even if he's had to downgrade his venue! Wink

@somewhereovertherain hope the visa issues have been sorted? I am an immigration lawyer so if you ever need any advice let me know!

Thanks visa all came though late but she still arrived in Malaysia in time for the start of term.

somewhereovertherain · 05/10/2023 22:54

If your ds/DDs get chance they should look at the study abroad in the China or Malaysia campuses. Daughter third year engineering student loving KL. Spending the whole year out there

Allloveisbeautiful · 05/10/2023 23:40

@somewhereovertherain glad to hear visa came through!

So lovely having DS home for the weekend! He said they’ve all had an email about year abroad today…. anyone else considering it?

I haven't Aiken to DS about it yet Wink

Sssudio · 09/10/2023 07:52

So lovely for you @Allloveisbeautiful , how is he? We went up there this weekend (DH and I) as had been a bit worried as he was ill and a bit wobbly but he was fine. But glad if it's being there as so many people had gone home. I really hope it's not a sign of things to come, he discounted Sussex exactly for this reason!

He's settling in well, the Goose Fair was unlike anything I've seen (only thing we did was eat minty peas) and he's very looking forward to seminars starting to get his teeth stuck in a bit more.

Glad everyone else is doing ok

Allloveisbeautiful · 09/10/2023 07:58

@Sssudio DS is fine thank you and enjoyed being home and watching F1 with DH but was equally happy to go back to uni which is very reassuring! He might come back again in a couple of weeks for the next F1 but said he’d only come back for the day so he can go out with his uni mates at the weekend which was very heartening to hear. Think he’s also looking forward to getting stuck in this week and has a 2 hour French practical to start with. So funny because we never imagined he’d be doing French again after stopping it in y9! But c’est la vie and I’m not complaining if it means more French holidays!

Glad to hear you got to Nottingham to spend time with your DS and that he’s fine. Hope he has a good week and everyone else on here 😊

Glad DC seem to be settling in. DD is fuming as her DSA funded lap top was due to be delivered on Saturday between 9 and 5 and having stayed in all day it didn't appear. Apparently they spotted a fault with it on Friday but cba to let her know.....

Also not happy that she has a lot of text books to buy but she should have spent less money going clubbing!

Allloveisbeautiful · 09/10/2023 16:42

@londonmummy1966 that’s rubbish. Not surprised she’s fuming

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto · 09/10/2023 19:25

That's so poor @londonmummy1966. I'm not surprised she's cross too.

DS seems to have gone out clubbing a lot too and he's out on a Pub Crawl tonight.

Sssudio · 09/10/2023 20:27

That's rubbish @londonmummy1966 , could they not let her collect it so she doesn't waste another day?

londonmummy1966 · 09/10/2023 22:49

She's totally hacked off but there seems to be one firm that has the monopoly on supplying DSA laptops. She gave them hell - and I know from bitter experience that she's quite good at that....

Hopefully they'll get it to her soon but she really needs her laptop and set up properly so she can get on with her work

Has she spoken to her DSA Assessor?

londonmummy1966 · 10/10/2023 09:56

Has she spoken to her DSA Assessor?

I asked her to as she really needs to get set up now the work is ramping up.

Sssudio · 10/10/2023 11:40

That's really bad, if she's not had it by tomorrow she needs to escalate to the DSS as they should also be able to intercede on her behalf (or have access to lend her one until it comes so she's not disadvantaged). The more people that kick off about this the more leverage they may have for the company to be a bit less hopeless (sorry, work in a uni, rant over!)

londonmummy1966 · 10/10/2023 15:41

@Sssudio - she's going to kick off again tomorrow but I'll ask her to see if she can borrow one - she's got her old lap top but it isn't brilliant so she really doesn't want to build up a backlog of work that needs transferring across.

Does anyone on here know if you put Nottingham as first choice what the chances are of getting catered en-suite on campus halls? Not hugely bothered about which halls on campus but really really wants en-suite.

Is it like Ticketmaster and you have to go on at midnight with three devices when it goes live in April?! And ensure you have firmed a week or so before?

Not sure about the catered but DS out down Broadgate as his first choice and got that.

londonmummy1966 · 14/10/2023 16:38

@ReservationDeclined - pretty sure its first come first served. BTW if there is a medical need for ensuite - eg IBS - then there is a separate list for affected students which opens earlier than the main list. My DD was on that as she needed a ground floor room. ALso, if there is a condition DSA may well pay the difference in cost between an ensuite and a shared bathroom room. My eldest has IBS/uterine didelphys and DSA paid the £20 so per week extra cost.

If you need the ensuite then your DC should get in touch with disabled student services at Nottingham and ask to go on the early list.

Thanks - no medical need just preference.

Our DS has en-suite self catering and he got that through clearing (own choice for self catering). He didn’t put Nottingham down at all! So I imagine if you put it down on your UCAS form you should get it….
