New thread for the start of the Oxbridge offers.

It's a no for DS. Not on UCAS yet but an emailed letter from the college. Best of luck to everyone whatever the result today.

GerronBuzanDoThaWomwok · 10/01/2023 10:47

History offer 🤓

Codfishermen · 10/01/2023 10:49

Congratulations to all with offers

It was a no for us, dd was upset for about 10 mins and now giggling as she texts her friends with offers at uni where it now looks like she'll end up so I think we'll get through this OK1

Jeelba · 10/01/2023 11:38

My grandson has an offer from Archaeology and Anthropology from Hertford. A bit of a surprise as he felt his interview had not gone well at Hertford and much better at St John’s…

carben · 10/01/2023 11:50

newyearolder · 10/01/2023 09:26

DD got an offer but for a college she wasn't interviewed at!

That's exactly what happened to my daughter last year. Interviewed by 4 and then offered a completely different college. She was/ is on the Opp Oxford programme though and it has been brilliant so far.

BackToWhereItAllBegan · 10/01/2023 12:16

It's a yes for DS, we all burst into tears! I think partly from excitement and partly stress relief!

buckleten · 10/01/2023 13:03

It's an offer for my dd for medicine 😍

EmmaStone · 10/01/2023 13:13

Many congratulations on those with offers.

It's a no for DD, but she's in good spirits and says she feels slightly relieved as she was concerned about workload. I'm sure she'll feel some sadness too as the day goes on and her bravado wanes, but she's so far taken it on the chin. At her school, of 15 interviewed, only 2 have had offers, so she's in good company!

Her first choice is now Durham, but still waiting to hear from them...

OnePlusOneEquals · 10/01/2023 13:41

An offer for DS for physics at a college not interviews for - one very happy boy and proud parents

redtulip12 · 10/01/2023 14:15

It was a no for DD. Gutted for her but also pleased we can now focus on her second choice and get excited over that.

Well done to everyone with offers.

Excited101 · 10/01/2023 14:55

No for SDD, a shame as she works SO hard but not a surprise- the internet kept dropping out during her second interview 😔

Aurea · 10/01/2023 15:03

Congrats and commissions to all Oxford applicants. It's a real roller coaster of a day.

May I ask what time UCAS updated for everyone with an Oxford decision? Us Cambridge lot will only hear through UCAS apparently on the day.

MidLifeCrisis007 · 10/01/2023 16:33

Just thought I'd pop onto the thread to console those with re-directed offspring today.

I know how much it hurts to see your DC's dreams shattered - DS was rejected twice. He was particularly distraught after the second rejection - he only ever wanted to go to Oxford.

Fast forward 2 years and he's so happy elsewhere. He's having a much better time and work/life balance than his Oxbridge mates!

Many students rejected today will go on to get 3, 4 or even 5 A stars. It's Oxford's loss.

lightand · 10/01/2023 16:33

lightand · 10/01/2023 10:18

I havent heard yet.

Its a no.
Not majorly surprised.

She does have an offer from her 3rd choice.
I think she finds out about her 2nd choice next week.

Congratulations to those who got in.

To those who didnt, I would say not to get overly disappointed. Not easy to do right now.

Panicmode1 · 10/01/2023 16:39

@aurea last year my DS heard from the college before UCAS, and it was fairly late in the day. Some of his friends heard first thing - 15 of them at the school got offers and they trickled in throughout the day depending on the subject/college.

Huge congratulations to the offer holders (now the hard work starts - to get the grades, and the work rate once they start is not for the faint hearted - I haven't seen DS all holiday between catching up and revising for Lent term's exams!).

Massive commiserations to those who didn't get what they wanted. I have three friends with children who were waiting today - 2 didn't get offers, one did and they are all four A star students, so it really is SUCH a lottery. They should be proud of themselves for having had the courage to have a go.

Panicmode1 · 10/01/2023 16:42

Sorry @aurea - I re read your post. I was talking about Cambridge offer day last year for DS (just finished his first term for engineering).

Riverpebble · 10/01/2023 16:42

DS has texted me to say his offer is from the college who interviewed him.

Riverpebble · 10/01/2023 17:26

Now the offers are in, shall we have a list of who has offers from where? No college names, just the university and subject.

I'm happy to maintain it and add Cambridge once those offers are in.

I wanted to congratulate all the DC and the mums who have received news today. This is an imperfect process and the difference between those who are made offer and those who are not is wafer thin. But either way, they will all end up at other world class universities. When one door closes, many more will open. This is just the beginning for those redirected today. If you think about all the students with top grades who didn't even have the courage or resilience even to apply - well, they did and they should be extremely proud of themselves. Great things await for them somewhere along the lines and they will truly deserve it.

To all those who were lucky enough to be made offers today - congratulations. Don't be put off by all the scaremongering about excessive work regimes and all that. The work is fine. They just need to treat it as their "job" for a few years - and most of all enjoy the experience . They are very well looked after. There are literally all types there and they will be absolutely fine.

Derbyderby · 10/01/2023 17:37

What a comforting thread. I don’t come on here too much so not great at abbreviations!! Our daughter has a no for Classics from Oxford after five interviews. She’s taking it really well. It’s all new to me as she’s the first of our girls to apply to University. We on the other hand !!!! Asking ourselves if it was down to college choice?

babysteps22 · 10/01/2023 17:57

A no for DS too. All a bit disappointed but we move on and now we can get excited about Bristol.
Congratulations to those whose DCs were offered places. Smile

newyearolder · 10/01/2023 17:58

Derby - totally depends on the course. Some are pooled across all colleges and the top xx get offers irrespective of which college they applied to.

Karwomannghia · 10/01/2023 18:39

Well done to everyone ☺️

Magimus · 10/01/2023 18:48

A thanks but no thanks for us too. Best of luck to offer holders.

Scottishsummer · 10/01/2023 18:50

DD has an offer and we are beyond grateful. And I am grateful to all the women here who have encouraged and comforted each other through this endless journey. Personal Statements started last Sept at her Sixth Form college so it's been almost five months. Congratulations to everyone who's gone through this endurance test. All these students are going to shine wherever they go now!
