New thread for the start of the Oxbridge offers.

I've just looked at the Durham form. Durham is very good at inbetween stuff, but it tends to strike out on a limb (such as the opportunity it gave for an alternative personal statement). But this form is for very narrow circumstances. I don't think Oxford has an equivalent form so the way to go -if there was no exam board notification - would be through the school to the college.

Greengeranium · 11/08/2023 22:56

Thank you for all your thoughts! Just to clarify, she did get extra time on exams as a result of her diagnosis, so won’t have any special consideration. She can certainly let them know herself, after her results. I just wasn’t quite sure how or when this should happen (and she wasn’t sure either).

goodbyestranger · 11/08/2023 23:22

Greengeranium if your DD had the extra time then Oxford won’t give any more leeway. The policy is very clear: the extra time is regarded as sufficient to negate the disadvantage. Very good luck for Thursday. Hopefully all will be well.

goodbyestranger · 12/08/2023 14:35

KittyMcKitty that's true up to a point. That point being if evidence is in the school's hands and is required to substantiate what an offer holder is saying.

goodbyestranger · 12/08/2023 14:35

Sorry, forgot to quote: As it’s at this time post exams etc I think most universities (certainly Durham) expect the applicant to make contact as opposed to the school

Panicmode1 · 15/08/2023 18:19

Just want to wish everyone the BEST outcomes on Thursday - this year my DD is waiting for her results, but not for Oxbridge thank goodness - not sure I could have done it for two consecutive years!!

For those who don't make it (and it won't help on Thursday I know), but the friends of DS who missed are having FAR more fun at their respective insurance choices....

For those who do make it - yay - and please come and join us on the 'current student parent' thread - I found it so helpful last year when I was completely clueless (as was DS 😂)

madcattersteaparty · 17/08/2023 07:00

I'm amazed I actually got some sleep so that's something. I'm nervous.

madcattersteaparty · 17/08/2023 07:02

There's every point in checking Ucas! Check them all! Emails, portals, letters from Owls, pigeon post..

JulesJules · 17/08/2023 07:03

Good luck to everyone getting their results today

A few years ago now but ucas updated for my son before he had his results. (At 8am if I remember rightly)

newyearolder · 17/08/2023 07:16

So nervous for DD! She stayed at her dad’s house last night so I just have to wait to hear from her. She’s confident she’s got the necessary grades though.

Yes it did here too, at 8am

goodbyestranger · 17/08/2023 07:26

Hope it goes well for all of you.

For my youngest four UCAS updated at just before 7.30am (obviously could be different this time).

And absolutely there is a point checking UCAS ahead of results: Oxford will have had its meetings to decide which near misses it wants to take and UCAS will have been informed accordingly. One of mine has his offer confirmed then went into school and found he’d missed a grade - Oxford had decided they wanted him anyway.

Juja · 17/08/2023 07:28

Good luck to all waiting results this morning ....

ofteninaspin · 17/08/2023 07:37

Good luck to your DC getting results today.

Both my DC had their places confirmed on UCAS before they went into school to collect their results (2018 and 2020). Pretty sure UCAS updated at 8am both times.

DD had an open offer (Oxford) and her confirmed college was identified on UCAS by a single letter. We had no idea which college it was from the letter so it might be a good idea to have a list of colleges and their UCAS letters handy if your DC has an open offer.

DahliaMacNamara · 17/08/2023 07:45

Feeling for you all this morning. I hope you got some sleep, and that your DC are merciful enough to be awake and checking very soon.

Trylinescore · 17/08/2023 07:48

& if anyone also has the hurdle of STEP, your DC have our greatest admiration and a double fingers crossed.

madcattersteaparty · 17/08/2023 08:18
