Jerusalem (artichoke) - And Did Those Beet In Ancient Times - 10 / 10 club - TITLE BY GREENY

For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

I couldn't find the list of titles so I hope I got it right.

I am eating 2 peaches, 2 fresh apricots, and a handful of grapes and raisins.

TooTicky · 16/07/2007 10:12

I am eating peanut butter and fruit spread (cherries and berries) on multigrain rice cakes.
Dd1 and ds2 have poorly bottoms. I have a mountain of washing.

DollyPopsOut · 16/07/2007 10:22

May i join you please? I always manage the 10 mins of exercise as I don't have a car at the moment, but I find thye fruit and veg much harder.

Still this am had2 nectarines, 1 punnet raspberries and some toast. Only 7 more to go!

Must go - DD2 needs fed.

OliviaMumsnet · 16/07/2007 10:24

FirenzeandZooey · 16/07/2007 10:38

Well otherwise everyone comes on and says "Ooh Franny great title" and I have to say 3000 times IT WAS NOT ME IT WAS GREENY

now Snottsleeves is about here somewhere, she could at least come and curtsey or something

OP posts:
FirenzeandZooey · 16/07/2007 10:39

Oh sorry Dolly, WELCOME to you

I am sure 1 punnet raspberries is more than one portion!

OP posts:
DollyPopsOut · 16/07/2007 10:51

Thank you for the welcome Franny .

Great title, Greeny .

FirenzeandZooey · 16/07/2007 10:54

Dolly are you new as I don't think I have seen your name before

(apologies if you have been on here for 40 years but best to get these awkward moments out of the way at the start, I find )

Oh good, I LIKE that one, I shall be singing it for the rest of the week now to dh annoyance

I have had a kiwi and also peanut butter and fruit spread but on rye toast. Toot, I keep thinking it's too fattening but if it's instead of butter it can't be that bad can it? Peanuts are high in fat but butter IS fat so...
as long as its spread thinly?

I have hung all ginghams and headdresses in the wardrobe so no fear or re-enactments today. It was only a toy tomahawk, Franny, I am very excited about my Tipi!

Hello Dolly

DollyPopsOut · 16/07/2007 11:07

No Franny I am not new - I stayed within my comfort zones on the Due in March 2007 thread and tended not to stray until the last few weeks. It's odd as I am quite bolshy in RL but find myself lurking and skulking a lot! Need to get more confidence methinks.

Am off out now with said DD2, back later. Off out for lunch. Do grapes (in the form of wine) count? I am guessing not....

Nuts are good for you MrsC, they will satiate you and they have loads of good stuff in them. Sorry you have hung up your dressing up clothes Ds is in his pjs with a furry lion's head and pink dancing shoes

Dolly you can be bolshy as you like on here. Not sure about grapes in wine - I am guessing NOT, but I think wine still has anti-oxidants in, doesn't it?

OP posts:
TooTicky · 16/07/2007 12:51

MrsC, dp often comments about my peanut butter habit, but I don't actually eat much fat from elsewhere.

FirenzeandZooey · 16/07/2007 12:57

you need some fat, especially you dairy free types

nuts and seeds are one of the best sources

TheChamberofCarrots · 16/07/2007 14:11

True, but I'm not vegi so try to keep a bit of an eye on it, though I have gone off meat a bit and often cook myself something different from the others. I have a lot of olive oil too. Just had delicious lunch of felafels, herb and broccoli quinoi and chickpeas in tomato sauce.

TooTicky · 16/07/2007 14:13

Leftover quinoa with veg, tomato and avocado. Nectarine.

PinkPotterWeasleys · 16/07/2007 14:25

Hi Dolly! Hi everyone!

Lion in pink dancing shoes sounds wonderful!

Had raisins, apple, cucumber.

BBBBasilisk · 16/07/2007 15:57

HI dolly, tt, pp, cc and F&Z - lots of alliteration on here.

Been at sports day all day. Was good - did points and had teams so competitive but not in an awful way.

Went on all day and I had no pack lunch so ate 4 dd grapes. Am resisting urge to eat loads of crap now I am back. will go and eat an apple.

Dhal for supper.

Filchymindedvixen · 16/07/2007 15:58

Forgive me franny for I have sinned...

2 days have gone by since my last vegetable :I have been festivalling and there were bugger all food options. I hav had too much alcohol in an attempt to anaethatise myself to sleep (never been to such a noisy festival) and the only vegetable to pass my lips was some fried tomatoes.
We stopped at a supermarket on the way home to get some food for sunday dinner and I was craving fruit nd vegetables. So I probably did about 7 portions last night alone.
And today I have had melon, raspberries, nectarines, raisins, carrot sticks and chicken with avacado, watercress and salad. Cauli and potat curri for dinner.

(Lots of exercise though - mostly n the way of marching up hill and down dale searching for my children. Constantly. With intermitant dancing. And mud wrestling.)

FirenzeandZooey · 16/07/2007 16:00

S'ok FMF - we had breakfast in a motorway service doodah and I had a fried breakfast and it wasn't even nice. And there were no mushrooms or tomatoes. AND there was a perectly good M+S selling lovely yogurt and fruit and stuff next door.

FirenzeandZooey · 16/07/2007 21:04

Whenever I am hanging around here all day bored, you lot are nowhere to be seen

when I am out or away for the weekend, it's tomahawks a go go

have eaten stuff

neighbour came round with two mangoes. Perhaps she thought I looked underfed. Hah.

OP posts:
PinkPotterWeasleys · 16/07/2007 21:08

I came on this afternoon and everyone else disappeared! Service station fry-up? I'd have gone for the M&S fruit and had a fry up at home for tea!

This afternoon had mango, courgette, spring onion and tomato fritata, melon and nectarine. I might be about to have a magnum. I haven't had chocolate for 3 days which is unheard of since I was about 13 - I have been known to get headaches and insomnia if I go without chocolate for a couple of days That was in my student days though!

FirenzeandZooey · 16/07/2007 21:10

Yes I know PSW. I really don't know wtf I was thinking of. I have nothing against fry ups, in fact some of my best friends are fry ups, but this was quite nasty. I did have a nice 10 / 10 ish lunch both days though.

OP posts:
TheChamberofCarrots · 16/07/2007 21:15

Tomahawks a go go, first time I've laughed out loud today. Mind you, I seem to do most of my laughing on mnet, is that a good thing?

Vegan shepherds pie with lots of veg and lentils, surprisingly, had it with salad and lemon courgettes.
