For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Franny - I still don't have that message so I've e-mailed you, so you can e-mail me, so I can send you.. etc etc why does that sound so complicated?

I have had another almond and LINSEED berry smoothie, it has always has linseed in it but I only actually watched them make it this morning. She tipped a pot of brown stuff in and I thought OMG it's full of sugar, but no

it is linseed, full of.. something, omega?

Boco, I forgot to warn you of a stiffly buttoned woman in high heels that may be seen lurking in your shrubs, a whiff of woodchip in the air...

Toot- sorry to hear about the funeral. Do you eat gooseberries raw btw, or cook them in something?

BocoBeak · 17/07/2007 12:54

Oh is 100x in my neck o the woods then? She'll be taking a turn around the rose garden at helmingham hall i'll bet. I'll recognise her because she's in black and white.

BBBBasilisk · 17/07/2007 14:54

and she will have a cocktail and a cigarette in a holder - all kind of Dorothy Parkerish.

Don;t want to go to a jam thread - they will be all professional and know loads - rather than my drinking and chatting and 'helping' my friend make jam (she had a special funnel!)

Okay- 2 apples. lettuce and prawns, left over dhal, nectarine, ornage juice.

Off to school that to see the harry potter film.

BBBBasilisk · 17/07/2007 14:55

(and LL they will all decorate special lables and put material on the lids.)

Lullabyloo · 17/07/2007 15:33

more fruit in one pyrex,sugar in another..bung in oven,boil & mix......or something

i want to make jaaaaaaaaaaaaam like my grandma

PinkPotterWeasleys · 17/07/2007 19:24

Hello!

Raisins (am i spelling that right? I have them every morning), spring onion (in tuna sandwich), cucumber, leftover courgette fritata (and dd ate loads as well, I didn't think she'd manage it ) onions, peppers and tomatoes in sausage casserole. Ooh not looking good. Going to have wine and cake in a minute with a friend but will try to eat some fruit too.

I'm having a dilemma... I want to go to a power-pramming type exercise class tomorrow but I usually go to the market for my fruit and veg. I could go afterwards but the later it gets the stuff gets a but rubbish. Am I just making excuses?! It's also going to mess up milk/lunch times... should I go?

DollyPopsOut · 17/07/2007 19:53

Hello - am new on this thread this week

PPW, I would go to the market when f and v are likely to be good - you can always power pram there under your own steam IYSWIM.

So far have had 2 apples, punnet raspberries, roasted veg, toast, coffee, grapefruit juice. DD1 got paint powder in her hair at nursery yesterday (don't ask - very annoyed) and so after a pink and stressful hair wash am going to have a glass of wine with my sausages and tomatoes.

Hope all of you are well .

TheChamberofCarrots · 17/07/2007 20:00

You could try it once and see how the day goes, and whether the nectarines are gnarly and bananas are bad?

Your food today is spookily similar to mine, PSW. I had tuna and spring onion on ryvitas and supper was sausages with leftover lentils and courgettes Have also had three nectarines, an apple and a banana.

The cupboards are bare but Mr Sainsbury is coming at nine and I believe I ordered some free from brownies. Whether or not they taste like an old stable remains to be seen. I haven't done a supermarket shop for ages but I still haven't resolved needing to remorgage if I keep spending the way I am locally. Next month is a new month, must ring the Suma thing and investigate boxes further. Every day I seem to manage half a chore. Lists. That's what I need.

PinkPotterWeasleys · 17/07/2007 20:17

Just had some mango and I'm waiting for my friend to come for wine and cake. Urgh, gnarly nectarines. I think I'll give it a try though. Need to get exercising and I've got no motivation. It would take me an hour to walk to the market, dolly. A bit much for dd there and back!
I've done lots of chores today - washing, cleared up after tea, vacuumed etc. I either need lists (and preferably gold stars ) or something to do as motivation for getting things done (ie friend coming round) otherwise I just sit here on MN!

DollyPopsOut · 17/07/2007 20:18

MrsC, I am a lover of lists but they always seem to get longer. Every time I do something I find 2 more things to add. Know what you mean about remortgaging though. I am spending a fortune on shopping in my local tescos as I don't trust the internet shoppers to choose the right things (ie in date by alot, nice fruit etc).

Any tips from expereinced 10/10ers in how to keep the costs down? Am buying seasonal stuff but getting through the £££. No markets near me, apart from dodgy fruit stall on a main road. Think lots of fruit etc would absorb pollution from the traffic which wouldn't be able to be washed off....

TheChamberofCarrots · 17/07/2007 20:30

I haven't ordered most of my fruit from them, I really like to choose that and it's also from Timbuktoo (sp?) rather than UK let alone local. I do, however, have the luxury of an organic grocers at the end of the road so it's easy for me. I just can't afford to buy EVERYTHING from them.

mellow2 · 17/07/2007 20:57

Sorry to hijack the thread.

Dolly,
I've left you a message on the breast pump thread

FirenzeandZooey · 17/07/2007 21:27

sorry

I stopped taking my magic stuff at the weekend and now am ill again

I could weep

OP posts:
Tatties · 17/07/2007 21:44

Aw Franny that's not good

Thread very long again already, hello everyone

TT sounds like you have a lot on your plate atm

Currently eating raspberries and strawberries

Generally eating well, on the brink of doing some exercise and ds keeps asking for sweet potato for breakfast

BocoBeak · 17/07/2007 21:45

Oh dear sorry you're ill Franny? What kind of magic stuff (obviously ignore me if its too personal) HOpe you feel better soon.

Hello Dolly, welcome to the vegetable place.

I've had strawberries, green beans, kiwi, tomatoes, cucumber, spring onions, raisins, grapes.

TheChamberofCarrots · 17/07/2007 22:09

Oh no, Franny! Do you feel the same as before? I can't believe the spirulina and co was KEEPING you well, are you sure it's that, you better guzzle it quick.

The free from brownie was quite tolerable as it happens, not stabley at all, though a little squishy. I must try and make some after the bun success. Could use the pure marg with half flour and half almonds and LOTS of Green and Blacks.

TooTicky · 17/07/2007 22:53

Franny, your healthy friend with the flowing tresses has made you algae-dependent? A nice smile, maybe, but does she have a crazed look in her eyes?

Yes, MrsC, I eat gooseberries raw Ds1 slurps out the innards

Tomorrow, LL, I will!

Funeral was okayish, really. More of a celebration of life and no weeping and wailing. Had to rush out before the end though because dd2 wanted me to take off her coat so I was just undoing a piece of velcro s-l-o-w-l-y so as to be quiet when she got impatient and SHRIEKED Anyway, I got to spend some time with my very precious great aunt who I haven't seen for nearly 6 years.

I made jam one year when the plum tree was very generous - added ground aniseed which was lovely. Now, though, wouldn't want to make a sugary jam.... must do research.

PinkPotterWeasleys · 17/07/2007 23:13

Algae dependence sounds worrying we have lots of blanket weed in our pond if you need a fix?!

Had chocolate cake, 2 glasses of wine and a lovely chat with my friend. I need to go and dig out my trakkie bottoms before I go to bed.

Oh I forgot to have banana and peanut butter again - will try tomorrow if bananas aren't bad!

TooTicky · 17/07/2007 23:14

Oh, meant to ask, what exactly is power-pramming? Pushing a laden pram rather fast uphill?
