Steak to the boil

Hi I posted a meal I made recently and thankfully most people backed me up and agreed it was normal, it helped settle a huge argument with my other half.

I just wanted to mention 1 more thing and see what people think. I've been buying these sirloins from a brazillian shop (not the same as sirloin steak in the uk)

Then I cook them in a pot / bring them to boil and my partner thinks it's wrong because you're meant to fry them.

I keep saying it's not sirloin steaks it's a brazillian sirloin which is completely different and I'm cooking it right.

Can anyone help explain to him he's wrong? I know it's small but it has caused a lot of arguments in the kitchen, and this site helped me a lot yesterday in finding the right name for the food I made.

Again this is not a sirloin steak in the uk, it's not steak... it's a brazillian sirloin so remember that. Thanks!!!

BIWI · 19/07/2023 16:58

Come on @powerhousesandra - admit you're toying with us all!

minipie · 19/07/2023 17:00

This must be a wind up

Also, please eat some vegetables

Sounds delicious.

BIWI · 19/07/2023 17:00

I'm sure that the OP's veg would end up being boiled to death as well @minipie Grin

minipie · 19/07/2023 17:06

Just realised you’re the chicken rice and crisps “crisps are just a form of potato” poster!!

WhereTheSuburbsMeetUttoxeter · 19/07/2023 17:17

Well at least it's reminded me of this Flight of the Conchords classic...

I don't care if this a wind up. It's made me chuckle. I'm just imagining the M&S voiceover recording with the OP as the director:

VO Artist: "This isn't just any steak, this is a Brazilian Sirloin Cap Steak
OP Directing: "CUT. No, no, no. How many times do I have to tell you IT IS NOT A STEAK.

Dartmoorcheffy · 19/07/2023 17:18

OP, I'm sorry but you really are an idiot. I can assure you that no Brazilian in any part of the country (and I am fully aware of how big it is, I'm not stupid) has ever boiled a steak. It would make it tough, grey and inedible. Please find me one shred of evidence to the contrary.

^^ This says it's best on the barbecue.

I think you've misunderstood the word broil for boil.

Oh god 🤣🤣 this thread ,so funny , op you are just what hospital kitchens are looking for if you fancy a job in catering 😆😆 .

BoohooWoohoo · 19/07/2023 17:29

I googled "boiling a steak Brazil" and this thread is the first hit.

SpinCycles · 19/07/2023 17:31

it's a sirloin not a steak

🤔😵‍💫

BoohooWoohoo · 19/07/2023 17:32

Do you own a sous vide?

SpinCycles · 19/07/2023 17:33

when i had it in brazil they told me it was boiled (this is a restaurant not my cooking)

They were probably using "American English" and said "broil". I.e. fry or grill.

LiesDoNotBecomeUs · 19/07/2023 17:36

Boiling is not traditional for this cut OP.
You'll get more flavour from grilling (broiling) or frying.

However, if you like it boiled - well, it is your dinner!

noglow · 19/07/2023 17:36

Do you have any plates that match? I mean I have loads that don't but we still always eat our dinner of the sames ones - you just seem to use a random one. Not plate shaming honest just intrigued by your variety of similar yet different plates.

I googled "boiling a steak Brazil" and this thread is the first hit.

So not a very common cultural practice then? I'm deeply shocked.

BoohooWoohoo · 19/07/2023 17:53

OP the photo from the restaurant is clearly not boiled- there's brown char marks where the meat has caramelised.

If you like boiled steak you can boil it but if you're trying to recreate the restaurant then you should broil the steaks.

MillicentTrilbyHiggins · 19/07/2023 18:21

The thought (and occasional photos) of boiled steak have made me feel quite queasy. Which is a real shame as were about to head out to an all you can eat buffet as a treat
Hopefully the walk there will make me hungry again.

BuffyTheCat · 19/07/2023 18:35

DP and I have a reservation at a steak restaurant this evening. We’re trying to imagine what would happen if, when they ask us how we’d like our steak cooked, we say “Boiled.” I think they’d do it. DP thinks they’d ask us to leave. Wish I had the balls to test this.

Maztek · 19/07/2023 18:36

No one is this useless 🤣 clearly on a wind up.

StarchySturgess1 · 19/07/2023 18:50

Oh ok I meant boiled like an egg

I cannot.
