Steak to the boil

Hi I posted a meal I made recently and thankfully most people backed me up and agreed it was normal, it helped settle a huge argument with my other half.

I just wanted to mention 1 more thing and see what people think. I've been buying these sirloins from a brazillian shop (not the same as sirloin steak in the uk)

Then I cook them in a pot / bring them to boil and my partner thinks it's wrong because you're meant to fry them.

I keep saying it's not sirloin steaks it's a brazillian sirloin which is completely different and I'm cooking it right.

Can anyone help explain to him he's wrong? I know it's small but it has caused a lot of arguments in the kitchen, and this site helped me a lot yesterday in finding the right name for the food I made.

Again this is not a sirloin steak in the uk, it's not steak... it's a brazillian sirloin so remember that. Thanks!!!

This has not been boiled. Only direct heat would brown the meat. Boiled would be grey and flat coloured with no heat marks

Hi not making a stew having it with spaghetti, it's a sirloin not a steak but i boil in water and then have with spaghetti for our supper

Move over Jamie Oliver, there's a new kid in town

Zooeyzebra · 19/07/2023 11:35

Also, what exactly do you think it is if it isn’t steak??

KittytheHare · 19/07/2023 11:36

Surely this can’t be real?

Hiphopopotamus · 19/07/2023 11:37

This isn’t real is it? People aren’t really out there boiling steaks in water and serving with plain spaghetti are they?

LG93 · 19/07/2023 11:37

Sirloin is used to reference the part of the cow it came from, so you could have a sirloin roasting joint, for example, which would be a massive chunk of meat. Steak refers to the cut, IE thick, flat, 'slabs' of meat. What you have there is steak, and as it's come from the sirloin area of a cow, it's a sirloin steak. I've never known anyone boil it, where did you get that idea from, who suggested you should boil your not steak sirloin?

powerhousesandra · 19/07/2023 11:39

Hi to clarify we dont always have spaghetti, If I cook I boil it every time because you use no oil but my husband sometimes frys it like this photo of when he made it. But I think boiling is better.... I don't have a photo of when I boiled it apart from the 2nd photo attached but will take more soon

But who told you to boil it op?

It's really not how it should be cooked.

RebeccaCloud9 · 19/07/2023 11:40

@powerhousesandra , like a pp suggested, did you read a recipe that told you to broil? Where did you get the idea to boil?

Mingomang · 19/07/2023 11:41

I can see with my eyes that it’s a steak, even if you keep typing Brazilian sirloin.
So therefore it’s needs to be griddled, fried or grilled!
Still, if you enjoy it boiled in water with pasta then that’s all that matters.

Peridot1 · 19/07/2023 11:42

Why do you think it should be boiled? Did you read it or were you told?

the picture is obviously a steak, a flat slab of meat

CC4712 · 19/07/2023 11:44

What do you take so many pictures of your meals?

FatCatBum · 19/07/2023 11:44

Why on earth would you boil it? Surely that just makes it grey and tasteless?

It's still a steak, just a different cut

toomuchlaundry · 19/07/2023 11:44

Can you taste the difference between it being boiled and fried? Is it not tough and chewy after being boiled?

powerhousesandra · 19/07/2023 11:46

It's a steak. You grill, fry or bbq it.

It's a steak. Please understand.

justanothernamechangemonday · 19/07/2023 11:46

I agree that you've mistaken broiling for boiling.

SquishyGloopyBum · 19/07/2023 11:48

I think they must have said broiled. Which means grilled. Not boiled.

That photo doesn't show meat that's boiled.

CC4712 · 19/07/2023 11:48

This is picanha OP!!! It hasn't been boiled!

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 19/07/2023 11:49

@powerhousesandra

You seem to be very confused. The piece of meat you have shown a picture of is a sirloin steak, it's a tender cut with a layer of fat across the top. It's best cooked quickly.

The only cuts of meat that should be cooked slowly in liquid are the tougher ones like braising or stewing steak.

nasanas · 19/07/2023 11:49

That may be what they did in the restaurant but that plate of food looks really poor tbh so I wouldn't base anything on 'what they did'

CC4712 · 19/07/2023 11:50

OP- just admit it- Your DH is correct and you are wrong!

Zooeyzebra · 19/07/2023 11:50

Hilarious, but sad that so many delicious not steaks have been boiled

JobzaGoodun · 19/07/2023 11:50

We know hun. We know.
