Steak to the boil

Hi I posted a meal I made recently and thankfully most people backed me up and agreed it was normal, it helped settle a huge argument with my other half.

I just wanted to mention 1 more thing and see what people think. I've been buying these sirloins from a brazillian shop (not the same as sirloin steak in the uk)

Then I cook them in a pot / bring them to boil and my partner thinks it's wrong because you're meant to fry them.

I keep saying it's not sirloin steaks it's a brazillian sirloin which is completely different and I'm cooking it right.

Can anyone help explain to him he's wrong? I know it's small but it has caused a lot of arguments in the kitchen, and this site helped me a lot yesterday in finding the right name for the food I made.

Again this is not a sirloin steak in the uk, it's not steak... it's a brazillian sirloin so remember that. Thanks!!!

That picture of the meal you ate in Brazil is very clearly a piece of meat that has been browned and caramelised over a high heat, that's what the dark brown/blackish bits of seer are.

BIWI · 19/07/2023 11:51

I think the OP is just toying with us ...

fuckmyuteruslining · 19/07/2023 11:51

Your husband is telling you that you are murdering the meal. Killing it stone-grey dead. Please stop.

Fry or grill, do not boil whether it's Brazilian or from Basildon

Please accept you have been wrong and will never do such an awful thing again

KittytheHare · 19/07/2023 11:52

@powerhousesandra I just found your last thread, where contrary to your opening post, everyone told you you were being weird 🤣. Now I know this is a wind-up!

Zooeyzebra · 19/07/2023 11:52

I really hope so. I’m sad that thinking someone is eating boiled steaks for dinner

PlacidPenelope · 19/07/2023 11:52

What a waste of good meat, boiling sirloin - you don't seem to understand anything about meat and where it comes from @powerhousesandra the clue for sirloin is in the name, i.e., the loin of the cow and that is the same whether the cow is English, Brazilian, Spanish or any other Country on planet Earth.

fuckmyuteruslining · 19/07/2023 11:53

Doesn't she know what's at steak?

(Boom,boom I'm here all week)

fuckmyuteruslining · 19/07/2023 11:53

After all she's had quite a grilling now

Karrpt · 19/07/2023 11:53

🤣🤣 they said broiled, not boiled. Fucking hell, you didn't boil a steak 🤯

BIWI · 19/07/2023 11:54

... and got us all fired-up Wink

ApolloandDaphne · 19/07/2023 11:54

Are you the crisps with rice and chicken woman?

Boiled steak must be rank. The picture you showed from a restaurant looks like the meat has been fried. I think you mistook the word broil (grill) for boil when you asked.

BIWI · 19/07/2023 11:55

I think, actually, @powerhousesandra, you should leave the cooking to your husband

WandaWonder · 19/07/2023 11:56

If you said you wanted to boil your husband, that would be less weird than this thread

NameChangeAgainChange · 19/07/2023 11:56

powerhousesandra · 19/07/2023 11:46

when i had it in brazil they told me it was boiled (this is a restaurant not my cooking)

That steak has not been boiled. The brown bits you see occur because of what's called the Maillard reaction, which only occurs at high temperatures of the sort you get with grilling or frying, not boiling.

What is the Maillard Reaction

why some foods brown when cooked

Yep, his cooking of the steak/not steak in question was how it should be done.

BIWI · 19/07/2023 11:58

Ah yes @Clymene - no doubt the OP will shortly go on to tell us about the problem with the water she boiled the steak in!

Dibdabble · 19/07/2023 11:58

OP you are definitely misteaken

RoseslnTheHospital · 19/07/2023 11:58

I've been vegetarian for more than 30 years and haven't cooked meat for that period of time, and even I know that you don't boil a steak! It would be grey and tough and weird.

I agree that you've mistaken the US term "broil" which means grill, for the UK term "boil".

That is most definitely broiled.

But boil your expensive cut of meat to death, if you like. You seem bent on doing that.

Having seen the foot photo on the other thread, you're clearly right 😂😂😂

fuckmyuteruslining · 19/07/2023 12:03

I bet she asked her husband what was his beef with her cooking

Boltonb · 19/07/2023 12:03

This has got to be a windup. However, @powerhousesandra every photo you’ve posted of your “cooking” has made me feel ill 🤢🤢🤢 and I have no idea where you’ve got such disgustingly unappetising photos from.

Hilarious. But grim
