Steak to the boil

Hi I posted a meal I made recently and thankfully most people backed me up and agreed it was normal, it helped settle a huge argument with my other half.

I just wanted to mention 1 more thing and see what people think. I've been buying these sirloins from a brazillian shop (not the same as sirloin steak in the uk)

Then I cook them in a pot / bring them to boil and my partner thinks it's wrong because you're meant to fry them.

I keep saying it's not sirloin steaks it's a brazillian sirloin which is completely different and I'm cooking it right.

Can anyone help explain to him he's wrong? I know it's small but it has caused a lot of arguments in the kitchen, and this site helped me a lot yesterday in finding the right name for the food I made.

Again this is not a sirloin steak in the uk, it's not steak... it's a brazillian sirloin so remember that. Thanks!!!

Are you sure you haven't misread a us recipe and it says 'broiled'

Boiled sounds disgusting

Yea this is my thinking too. No one in their right mind would ever boil a steak. Even the example OP has posted from stock images / websites have marking consistent with frying or grilling.

TerfTalking · 19/07/2023 13:34

Are you the poster that tried to get a job in M&S? Did you stop offering the steak cut chips and diversify into more adventurous recipe suggestions?

I work with a Brazilian. She’s told me you are so wrong she’s practically wailing in frustration at you doing this to a lovely bit of meat.

she says the waiter will have used the American word broiled and you have misheard.

She’s also asked me to never again speak of this crime against food 😂

Clymene · 19/07/2023 13:34

I don't want to see videos of your cooking @powerhousesandra. I want to see a video from a Brazilian source showing boiling sirloin. Because I know quite a few Brazilians and none of them boil their steak.

CinnabarRed · 19/07/2023 13:36

Oh. You’re poor, poor husband.

You’re making Tafelspitz (which is exactly the same cut boiled in vegetable broth): https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tafelspitz

The videos of the cooking look like my 8 year old did it. Adding crisps and tomato ketchup to a plate of spaghetti and stew. Vile. In fact I think my 8 year old likely to have better taste.

Ok, so your photo at 11.46 you said was from a restaurant. You can clearly see that steak has not been boiled. The markings are consistent with broiling / frying. But you know this 🥱

FunnysInLaJardin · 19/07/2023 13:56

this is hilarious!

Ducksinthebath · 19/07/2023 13:59

Tafelspitz is vile.

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 19/07/2023 13:59

Booked sounds unpleasant, surely you end up with grey chewy meat?

It should be grilled, griddled, fried or roasted in my view.

Even when making casserole I will fry the meat before putting in the casserole for the colour, flavour and texture it gives

AnnaMagnani · 19/07/2023 14:00

Tafelspitz is simmered not boiled.

Still vile though.

Boiling steak, the mind boggles....still, much needed light relief after some of the threads I'm reading today.

Peridot1 · 19/07/2023 14:13

@powerhousesandra when you asked in Brazil how the meat was cooked I can guarantee that the waiter said it was BROILED. Which is another word for grilled. Used in America. BROILED is most definitely a word.

Yes, OP when people are referring to broiled they’re saying that’s what the restaurant will have told you they’re not referring to you and your boiling.
