Robin Hood. Prince of thieves.

I just love it.

My best ever present was when DH bought me the video. He put the DVD in my stocking at Christmas last. I may have cried a bit.
The Bryan Adams song makes me fill up every time.

I am ashamed that I have just written this and my favourite film isn't something intelligent and high brow but I am a bit post-nights-deletions and I have had wine.

Cool Runnings. I cry every single time I watch it.

Michael Palin was rather beautiful

He's gorgeous! I've got Hmm looks whenever I've said this but it's true.

lavenirestanous · 25/04/2017 17:14

Local Hero
The Breakfast Club
Sweet Home Alabama

Grave Robbers from Outer Space

It's a terrible film. Truly shocking. In fact I believe it actually won an award for the dubious honour of being the "worst film ever made". I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who valued their time tbh. But it's billed as Bela Lugosi's (Dracula) last film. It was actually filmed after his death but the director took footage that Lugosi had already filmed for their unfinished projects and just spliced it into Grave Robbers. He even had his dentist or chiropractor I believe play Lugosi's back when his character is walking around. They have footage of Lugosi standing around creepily, walking into a house and swooshing his cape around, basically every scrap the director had (and I mean every scrap, including the unusable bits that would never have made it into any other film). The director did it partly as a tribute to his late friend but mostly so that he could say Lugosi was in his film and that he was making Lugosi's last ever film, in the hopes of attracting other big names to join it. God it's awful and it's definitely an embarrassing love but I'm in hysterics every time I watch it and see random Lugosi shots and a dentist/chiropractor who looks nothing like Lugosi try to be him Grin . My personal favourite bit is the narrator who at some point says "future events such as these will affect you in the future". Genius.

Op my H was in Robin Hood POT, so were his dogs.

All time fave for me is anything with Margaret Rutherford in.

MaudLyn · 25/04/2017 17:30

Titanic. I own 2 DVDs. I don't even know why.

EnidButton · 25/04/2017 17:31

Shock Did he get to wear a fetching costume Maiden? Did he keep it? Do you make him wear it occasionally?

WeeWillyWinkieFromEccles · 25/04/2017 17:47

I adore Serendipity. Proper guilty pleasure. I wanted to be Kate Beckinsale so much.

Oh and The Slipper and the Rose. A musical version of Cinderella. With Annette Crosbie as the Fairy Godmother. I had it on vhs as a child and would watch it every week. I now have it on DVD, it was a newspaper freebie a few years ago and still watch it regularly! I love the songs.

MaidenMotherCrone · 25/04/2017 18:19

GrinEnid, no it was before I met him. I scanned that film so many times looking for him but never spotted him, I did recognise the dogs though. They were paid more than him too Grin.

I've just bought Seven Brides on iTunes as a result of this thread. Only £4.99, well worth it.

YellowLaceChestnutMuff · 25/04/2017 18:30

Bend it Like Beckham. I can watch it a million times.

MrsHudsonTookMySkull · 25/04/2017 18:38

The American President
"Sydney, the man is the leader of the free world. He's brilliant, funny, handsome. He's an above-average dancer. Isn't it possible our standards are just a tad high?" Grin

HelenaJustina · 25/04/2017 18:44

WeeWilly Slipper and the Rose! So few people know that one and it's great, always brings me to tears as she slips away singing 'tell him'...

My other ones are
The Princess Bride
Stardust

HelenaJustina · 25/04/2017 18:46

Robin Hood prince of thieves is mine too ❤️

Sgtmajormummy · 25/04/2017 18:48

Not my favourite ever but pretty embarrassing is "Crossing Delancey" a sort of Jewish version of Cher's "Moonstruck".

LonelyOversharer · 25/04/2017 18:51

Scarface
Silence of the Lambs
Saving private ryan

Christinayangstwistedsista · 25/04/2017 19:02

All of the above plus an old one about three women who get a letter about their husband having an affair

smashyourglasses · 25/04/2017 19:08

I'd like to say something cool and arty but the true answer is Mannequin and Romancing the Stone.

BaggypantsCrimplesnitch · 25/04/2017 19:10

Six Days, Seven Nights. It's absolute hokum, but I adore it - especially the scene where Harrison Ford and Anne Heche have escaped from the pirates by the skin of their teeth and collapse exhausted in the surf, and he kisses her for the first time. There's so much hunger in that kiss...

sigh

Tastesjustlikecherrycola85 · 25/04/2017 19:11

With you OP, love Robin Hood. I have seen it so many times I can pretty much recite the dialogue word for word Blush
