My favourite ever (and perhaps a little embarrassing) film, ever.........

Robin Hood. Prince of thieves.

I just love it.

My best ever present was when DH bought me the video. He put the DVD in my stocking at Christmas last. I may have cried a bit.
The Bryan Adams song makes me fill up every time.

I am ashamed that I have just written this and my favourite film isn't something intelligent and high brow but I am a bit post-nights-deletions and I have had wine.

Ladyhawk I forgot about that, so sad.
Inkheart love that too such a great story idea.

Rocky Horror Picture Show just fab.

Apollo 13 I remember an ex and me watching it with another couple at my house, several drinks were partaken of, my friend kept asking "Do they all get home safely, tell me they get home"? She was very concerned for them all bless her Smile

Mission to Mars (It was all bloody Gary Sinese's fault I went on that 'Mission to Mars' ride at Epcot 3 times and he still wasnt waiting when I got to 'Mars' Sad)

The Stand

Stand By Me

Galaxy Quest is another old fav, love Tim Allen and Alan Rickman in it.

'Oblivion' Saw it recently and thought it was a great story and was a wreck by the end!

Jaws epic film, first and best of its kind.

Dog Soldiers - watched it again the other night and forgot how bloody scary it is in bits despite the dark humour and Sean Pertwee is ace Grin (why I sat up until stupid o clock watching it I dont know I have it on dvd!)

Terms of Endearment
Four Weddings and a Funeral
The Women
Any film with Jimmy Stewart in it because he makes me weak at the knees!

And of course, Local Hero.

Never seen Robin Hood. Shall watch.

NoncommittalToSparkleMotion · 26/04/2017 00:57

All of these are brilliant films!!

I watch Father of the Bride when I get sad. I can't help it.

Hocus Pocus every Halloween.

And Mary Poppins isn't embarrassing. It's awesome.

CakesRUs · 26/04/2017 01:58

My Immortal Beloved - about Beethoven. Also Jane Eyre, only the one with Ciaran Hinds and Samantha Morton.

Pettywoman: Now Voyager

I finally have found someone who has not only seen this, but loved it! I adore this movie, (almost) everything about it from the Max Steiner score through to Paul Henreid's and Bette Davis's melting looks. Gladys Cooper is frightening, as the horrible mother.

I read somewhere it must be in the running for the best last line in a film. And, sadly, it makes smoking, not sexy, but romantic.

When Bette Davis was good, my word, she was GOOD.

smurfy2015 · 26/04/2017 10:51

i have several in no particular order

trainspotting, love the monologue and it the original was gritty and ahead of its time, havent seen T2 in case its not as good and spoils the original for me

love and other drugs - the trying to hide illness and cure self is a very familar journey, and having a loved one at same time in the story

dead poets society (brought me comfort thru some hard times)

Evelyn - close to my family, my brothers ex tried to leave the country with the kids so he had to fight to keep them together and in the country

Ferris Buellers day off - just because

It's complicated - not sure why but really enjoy it

Mamma mia - totally word perfect - great for a mood boosting sing along

The Commitments - totally word perfect - great for a mood boosting sing along - all the swearing helps get stress out lol

Hairspray - totally word perfect - great for a mood boosting sing along

One flew over the cuckoos nest (brought me comfort thru some hard times)

Girl interrupted (brought me comfort thru some hard times)

squoosh · 26/04/2017 10:56

Now Voyager can hardly be deemed a guilty pleasure film!

LunaMay · 26/04/2017 11:12

The lord of the rings/hobbit movies - not embarrased though, theyre awesome Grin

Big Business with Bette Midler and Lily Tomlin

Ohhhh i dont know if anyone would have seen this but... Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man.. so bad and cheesy but ive loved it ever since i caught it on in the middle of the night as a teen haha may have had a crush on Mickey Rourke for a while

nannybeach · 26/04/2017 11:26

Ice cold in Alex never get tired of seeing it.

greedygorb · 26/04/2017 11:31

Pillow Talk with Doris Day and Rock Hudson. It is so ridiculous but I loooove it.

I love Strictly Ballroom as well. I quote it all the time and noone else seems to understand.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 26/04/2017 11:39

The Albert Finney version of Annie BlushBlushBlush

Then Predator Grin

NinjaLeprechaun · 26/04/2017 12:51

"..Storybook Love. Oh bugger. Whatever it's called."
Storybook Story. I love the Princess Bride - it's a classic.

I'm partial to the Marvel movies. But my favourite has to be Captain America: The Winter Soldier. (Although to be honest I can't remember the last time I watched it as a stand-alone, I generally watch all three Captain America movies in a row.) Hey, Robert Redford's in it, that makes it a Proper Important Grown-up Film, right? Confused

JaneJeffer · 26/04/2017 12:55

Not too many recent films on here! I love Crossing Delancey.

NoncommittalToSparkleMotion · 26/04/2017 14:56

The Albert Finney version of Annie is the only version, far as I'm concerned.

GrimmDays · 26/04/2017 15:03

Princess Bride
Labyrinth
Bring it On
Legally Blonde
Tank Girl
The Goonies

peaceloveandbiscuits · 26/04/2017 16:12

Noncommittal I rather love you Grin

FeedTheSharkAndItWIllBite · 26/04/2017 16:30

Were maybe mentioned already:

Troy, Mr & Ms Smith, Mary Poppins, Princess Diaries, 27 dresses, Mamma Mia, Imagine Me & You, Qu'est-ce qu'on a fait au Bon Dieu?, mine vaganti, Frozen, les choristes, LOTR films, Charlotte & Louise and I love watching Miss Marples with my mother (DH isn't a fan...), most/many marvel movies.

Ok, actually, most of these aren't even embarassing imo. These are just the films I like (I'm not saying I have good taste, because some are admittedly a bit "eh"...)
I'm not even embarassed for liking frozen. It's more like... I'm embarassed for not being embarassed? Confused

NoncommittalToSparkleMotion · 26/04/2017 16:40

@peaceloveandbiscuits it's ALL mutual Flowers

bran · 26/04/2017 16:42

I love a good physical fight between two love interests, Mr & Mrs Smith has a great one, as does Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

SapphireStrange · 26/04/2017 16:43

Most of these are not AT ALL embarrassing.

Easter Parade is a classic. Mary Poppins is a masterpiece. Local Hero is glorious. Trainspotting was a game-changer and is still, now, shocking (in a good way) and electrifying.

I love most of those mentioned. I guess if I have an 'embarrassing' film I love, it's Spy Game. Very flashy and trashy but SO entertaining.

MOIST · 26/04/2017 16:58

I now have a fabulous list of films to watch again. Wonderfully embarrassing. I will get snacks in and make a day/week of it Grin

CoraPirbright · 26/04/2017 17:32

Practical Magic Blush

Effendi · 26/04/2017 17:51

Gone With The Wind.
I've lost count of how many times I've watched it.

NoncommittalToSparkleMotion · 26/04/2017 17:55

Omg, cheapskate mum, Beethoven was great. I want a Saint Bernard just like him.
