My favourite ever (and perhaps a little embarrassing) film, ever.........

Robin Hood. Prince of thieves.

I just love it.

My best ever present was when DH bought me the video. He put the DVD in my stocking at Christmas last. I may have cried a bit.
The Bryan Adams song makes me fill up every time.

I am ashamed that I have just written this and my favourite film isn't something intelligent and high brow but I am a bit post-nights-deletions and I have had wine.

Dante's Peak Blush

I really like the bit where the granny melts in the lake.

Ellieboolou27 · 24/04/2017 20:36

Dirty dancing
Cocktail
Top gun
Officer & gentleman
Can you tell which era I grew up in 😄

LoupGarou · 24/04/2017 20:39

VisionsofJohanna we clearly have fabulous taste. I was watching it with 3 yr old DS again the other day and I was trying to talk to him about the sexism etc and how we jut don't do or think a lot of those things now as we know they're wrong, and could he give me an example of one of those? He beamed and said yes - we don't run or dance around animals, we walk calmly so we don't scare them! Grin

Oh yes to Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, kidnapping, chaste flirting, dancing, singing, shaky scenery, it's got it all. I really fancied the brother that was played by a ballet dancer.

Mycutiemarkisrubbish · 24/04/2017 20:42

The Hangover. Kills me every time.

I think I'm also the only person in the world who really likes the Keira Knightly Pride & Prejudice (though it's not as good as the BBC version, obviously).

Gone With the Wind doesn't deserve to be on here, it's not remotely embarrassing!

bran · 24/04/2017 20:43

I also love, and watch again and again, Grosse Pointe Blank. It has great music, good fight scenes and really snappy, bitchy dialogue.

Maudlinmaud · 24/04/2017 20:44

Has anyone said Titanic? I have watched it about sixty million times. My dc shout not again when I get the dvd out.

GetInTheFuckingSea · 24/04/2017 20:45

I am a total sucker for the big old corny "women's films" as they were called - Imitation of Life, All That Heaven Allows, Waterloo Bridge etc. Also anything with a hard boiled hero whose weak spot is a beautiful dame eg The Maltese Falcon, The Third Man, Casablanca ("Ees that cannon fire? Or ees eet my heart pounding?") etc.

Load of old hokum but I love them.

TheStoatIsStoatallyDifferent · 24/04/2017 20:47

Robin Hood is a classic! It's one of the very few films that DH and I watch whenever we come across it when channel hopping.

Pitch perfect is probably now my favourite of all time! I love it and sing along to the soundtrack in the car very loudly!

GetInTheFuckingSea · 24/04/2017 20:47

Just realised that DOOM also features heavily in my favourite films. I do love a good old doomed heroine or hero.

CurlsandCurves · 24/04/2017 20:50

Cocktail. Always had a soft spot for a bartender. But even when I was young it was always Bryan Brown I went for not Tom Cruise.

Cool Runnings. It was on tv last weekend, both kids were put plying at friends and DH and I chilled out no watched it, it's just as good as I remember it.

allegretto · 24/04/2017 20:51

Tinkly - me too! As a teenager I used to watch all his films and write to all the tv channels urging them to show more of his films. Slightly obsessed!

skinnymalinkmalojin · 24/04/2017 20:51

Strictly Ballroom and Evita. I've watched Strictly Ballroom with my 10 year old- it's one of her favourites too.

neonrainbow · 24/04/2017 20:53

A Knight's Tale for me too!!

VisionsofJohanna · 24/04/2017 20:56

LoupGarou hilarious. Your DS has a fine grasp of petting zoo etiquette if nothing else! What a film.

Absy · 24/04/2017 21:07

Fifty first dates, but i own my love of it. It's a great film (though I don't tell many people that in general I really like Adam sandler movies).

There's a moment in the Kiera Knightley Pride and Prejudice that I really love - where the guy who fancies her sister gently touches the ribbon on her dress. Makes me come over all giddy at him fancying her that much.

I met Bryan Adams last year and he was really, really nice. And good with babies

cakesonatrain · 24/04/2017 21:09

Grosse Pointe Blank is fricking awesome, and not at all embarrassing.

IamnotaStepfordHousewife · 24/04/2017 21:12

Twilight saga for me. I'm obsessed with it.

CrowOnTheBroom · 24/04/2017 21:16

I think I've found my people, nothing to be ashamed of here! All these films are classics I tell you!
I can recite most of Robin Hood Blush Con Air is also one of my all time favourite films.

TheNiffler · 24/04/2017 21:17

Brigadoon. I do love a kitsch old musical

MollyCule · 24/04/2017 21:21

Haha Niffler I forgot about Dante's Peak! Dirty Dancing is no embarrassing in my opinion :-). I love lots of thr films others have mentioned.. another true guilty pleasure for me is Look Who's Talking.

MollyCule · 24/04/2017 21:22

Also pretty much anything with Sandra Bullock.. have watched Miss Congeniality a lot.

GlitterRollerSkate · 24/04/2017 21:24

Hahahahaha I watched Robin Hood today!! Bloody love that film.

paddypants13 · 24/04/2017 21:26

Strictly Ballroom! Love that film, massive cheese fest.

Also love Robin Hood P.O.T. it's brilliant.

Wornoutbear · 24/04/2017 21:28

The Godfather, Scarface, Gone with the Wind, Moonstruck, Evita, The Bishops Wife (the David Niven version) A Matter of life or Death, It's a Wonderful Life, Casablanca, Mildred Pierce, All about Eve, and Sunset Boulevard. I remember watching Waterloo Bridge with my Mum, and we cried so much that when my Dad came home from work, he thought there'd been a death in the family!!
