Anyone else sick of this? I’ve never seen a woman do it.

Example 1 - 2 men on our (quiet, residential) street on opposite sides of the road are having a ‘conversation’. Only they’re not, they’re bellowing across the road to each other (with fuck or shit being every other word) for a good 10 minutes. Because it’s much more manly to stay where you are and scream like a nutter than it is to cross the road and talk like a normal person.

Example 2 - on a bus the other day, woman opposite me chatting quietly on her mobile. Bloke behind me picks his up and literally shouts down it - ‘HI KEV YOU ALRIGHT! YEAH IM ON THE BUS! YEAH FUCKING FREEZING ISNT IT! DID YOU HEAR ABOUT SO AND SO? YEAH WHAT A CUNT’ blah blah blah

Could probably come up with a new example every few days!

Just shut up you sad man nobody cares or is impressed with your stupid vocal cords

It feels like any thread discussing male pattern behaviour needs to have a disclaimer that's says:

This thread is going to be discussing male pattern behaviour. On a feminist topic it's likely that women are going to be observing trends that are exhibited by the male class of human beings. Feminists tend to be concerned with issues of class-based behaviour, structural oppression. Obviously the women posting on this topic are not be saying every single man that has ever walked planet earth has done everything that may or may not be discussed on this thread. Discussing male pattern behaviour is not man hating or man bashing.

But this isn’t class based behabiour (as in caused by class privilege), it’s most likely based on the increased prevalence of an invisible disability that affects men at twice the rate of women and causes exactly what you are observing- loud talking. Furthermore, men aren’t oppressing women by talking loudly amongst themselves.

Cuppasoupmonster · 27/01/2023 09:03

They are when they’re saying ‘fuck’ or ‘cunt’ every other word around small children; knowing women don’t have the confidence to intervene.

So why don’t we generally see even half the number of women as men screaming obscenities in public? Out of all these posts only a couple have observed it in both sexes.

Several posters have said they see just as many women doing this 🤷‍♀️
Are you excluding them from your “we”?

Studies have been posted upthread showing women swear more often than men. So maybe it’s not lack of confidence but simply giving zero fucks because their kids have already heard it from their own mouths.

anythinginapinch · 27/01/2023 09:09

Men are fucking oppressing women by talking fucking loudly in public - it's a way of making sure women in the area know there is, in the immediate vicinity, a man capable of ignoring social norms, who is "big" in the sense he's taking up more social space (the communal air space) than is usually allocated to an individual, and that he is unperturbed by the needs or wants of those around him - it's a fucking big klaxon that "an alpha male (aka ignorant fucking tosspot) is here" and this contributes absolutely to the masculinisation of society and oppression of women.

So fucking jog on.

Oh @Onnabugeisha take the day off, you’re boring everyone

OP posts:

I’m sorry but this “manscreaming” isn’t a feminist issue at all.
Not everything unpleasant in life can be attributed to male oppression of females.

On a less serious note (I'm not being flippant honestly!) but when I saw the title and read the OP it put me in mind of 'The Fast Show' with Dom Joly...I'm going back some years now so not all of you will remember, but he played a character who was forever yelling into his giant mobile phone, used to give me and my Mum in stitches.

It’s so depressing to see fellow women not employ their critical thinking skills at all and willfully ignore the science and established statistics relevant to this issue.

Where are all the accusatory threads asking why black people commit more crime or why Muslims are so homophobic

Clue’s in the name of the board. HTH.

In a very odd way, it feels like you have been manscreamed at on your own thread, OP. Yes, it is annoying and obvious.

And this, ladies is what happens when you try to have a light hearted conversation about irritating male behaviour!

Are these not what we'd usually call DARVO tactics/reversal?

I'm not taking the side of the men. These type of threads just reek a bit of "I don't have a problem with men but..."

I just feel like this type of casual bashing wouldn't be deemed acceptable against any other demographic, but gets ignored because people on here are so accustomed to it.

Anyway, I've beat my drum enough.

DARVO stands for deny, attack, reverse victim and offender

That has been happening on this thread but not from OP. Her position has been clear from the start.

This thread is hilariously batshit. Some posters are very fragile.

Cuppasoupmonster · 27/01/2023 09:14

Ffs discrimination against men doesn’t exist, nor does racism against white people. This is exhausting 😂 DH is just as sick of the screaming Alphas as I am.

That’s not feminism. Feminism isn’t about peddling angry sexist twaddle about men.

DARVO doesn’t apply to a fucking debate on facts.

You cannot apply a model that describes the relationship dynamics of an abusive intimate relationship to a discussion on why it seems like alot of men talk loudly.

Same here with my DH, and the same for many of my friends' husbands, especially those with sons. It's quite interesting hearing the dads talk about wanting to make sure their son's grown up with decent male role models because the dads themselves identify that toxic masculinity is a problem.

Is it possible to block a poster on here? The derailer beginning with O is really annoying me this morning, came on for a bit of a laugh and a mild eye roll and instead get lectured ……

Furthermore, men aren’t oppressing women by talking loudly amongst themselves.

Men dominating all the space both physically and in terms of noise (talking so loudly others can't have a conversation or read a magazine) are definitely being oppressive.

They are basically saying "my desires are more important than anyone else"

I have never seen women do the performative noise making or the manspreading but I have seen lots of men do this.

If you read about men's behaviour in public you'll see they do tend to hog public space. The first couple of chapters of "Invisible Women" are good for studies about this.

Onnabugeisha · 27/01/2023 09:20

I'm amazed people can't see that this groupthink is classic bigot behaviour

Yep. Agree completely.

I agree which was why I was commenting when another poster suggested that's what OP was doing.

Although claiming men shout and swear because they are deaf and misunderstood is a bit darvoesque

Yes men take up more space, they are bigger.
Yes more men talk loudly, they are twice as likely to need to due to hearing loss.

Ive read Invisible Woman and I thought much of it was lacking rigor.
There’s a reason why it wasn’t published via the usual peer review process but as popular fiction.

Not really, because the thread is about men having loud, sweary conversations between themselves whilst in public.

It’s not about men verbally abusing anyone by shouting and swearing- so no such claim has been made.
