I'm not being flippant about Covid btw, merely stating highlighting how much I don't like looking at myself.

justanotherneighinparadise · 13/08/2020 15:15

Oh god I can relate to the hairdressers mirror. I actually had a cosmetic procedure a few years ago after realising just how bad I looked in a hairdressers mirror. I’m also going on Saturday and will also happily wear my mask.

I’m still feeling really out of sorts and on the edge of tears. Hopefully tomorrow I’ll feel better xx

NibbleQueen · 13/08/2020 15:18

@Justasecondnow what are you changing to be on maintenance rather than on plan?

WhatWillSantaBring · 13/08/2020 16:22

Hi @justanotherneighinparadise - i can totally relate to how you're feeling. I have a terrible relationship with my appearance. I've got two CBT based books to work through - though even reading them is a struggle as I can't do the exercises (one involved looking in a mirror and not being critical - I can ONLY look at a mirror for critical or practical purposes). But maybe I should have another go now that I'm in a slightly better place about myself (now I'm just a bit fat and ugly, rather than being obsenely fat and ugly). One of the books is called "Overcoming low self-esteem" and one is called I [heart symbol] me.

I wish I knew what triggered such low self-esteem, as I would give anything for my daughter to avoid this pain. But either way, I think neigh it sounds like it would be a helpful part of your journey to work on your self-esteem. You can train your mind to accept a new relationship with food, so you have definitely got the ability to train your mind to accept a more positive relationship with yourself. Big hugs though, it's a horrible place to be.

NibbleQueen · 13/08/2020 20:02

Fell very off plan today. We're having serious issues with our property sale as our buyers cheaped out on their solicitor and that may cause everything to collapse. Infuriating!!

Anyhoo I had...
L: scallopy thingy
S: glass of wine, chocolate, little pastry thing
D: cod, roast peppers, magnum ice cream Blush
Brings me to 1k cals and about 60g carbs

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 13/08/2020 20:07

Evening all,

After yesterday's massive unknown gain, I basically had a blow out/binge, and now I feel absolutely vile. Sluggish, headache, etc.

But I have a plan. I've meal planned for the next week, booked exercise with friends in, made some plans with family that don't involve food etc.

I'm also not going to weigh for at least a week. I think the daily weighing has contributed to this blow out - I had days of no losses despite following the plan to the letter, then the baffling 3lb overnight gain - and despite affirmations of the long game, it got to me.

I wasn't going to post this but I think it might help someone else to know we are all human. 😂

Patchworksack · 13/08/2020 21:17

B : half red grapefruit (which I know is not low carb but meant to be good for high triglycerides which DH also has)
L : Greek salad
D : chicken gong bao with smashed cucumber and cauli rice (kit from The Spicery - was lush!) berries, and cream.

Justasecondnow · 13/08/2020 21:55

Hi nibblequeen Re maintenance i’m doing a sort of 5/2 low carb mix up approach.

Mon- fri low carb ish (avoid big 5 of potatoes, rice, pasta, flour and sugar) and calorie count to prob around 1500 3 days (need to calculate TDEE) but Tues & Thurs do 800 cals and one meal a day - recently found fasting had really helped.

That leaves the weekend - where if I’m honest I want a break from calorie counting and want to eat the odd potato/bread product and have a drink etc. The difficulty is enjoying that without overeating. So will have to see how it goes: my track record here is poor tbh. But I’m not ready to give up carbs forever yet. If weight starts to pile back on I might have to cross that bridge

And hope you feel better neigh and well done for getting straight back on wagon frogs we’ve all been there!

NibbleQueen · 13/08/2020 22:36

Yeah I'm not ready to give up carbs either! Tbh my recent weight gain has been from lockdown really, but when I'm eating my normal diet i don't think I eat too much of the wrong carbs. But I do seem to gain and lose the same half stone a few times a year, so maybe I need a way of eating that'll just help me reset the rest of the time without feeling like I'm dieting. Honestly I've been more than happy having seafood and veg every meal, though its been costly! How has everyone's grocery bills changed?

Flibbertyjibbit · 13/08/2020 23:29

End of day 2 and feeling very headachey/bleugh. Guessing that's my body being disgruntled at no sugar/white carbs for 48 hours now.

B - Greek yog and berries
L - chicken breast stuffed with spinach and ricotta, with roasted veg.
D. Houmous and veg

That all came in at 749 cals and 40g carb. I'm aiming for under 50g carbs, is that correct?

I have a real issue with self esteem so I can relate @justanotherneighinparadise hope you feel better soon.

ThePawtriarchy · 14/08/2020 02:16

@justanotherneighinparadise you’ll be your own very worst critic and everyone looks shit on Zoom, plus you have the very worst filter (your own eyes!).Be kind to yourself.

@Flibbertyjibbit I’m only five days in but the first 48 hours were bad. It got better!

I’m away for three days next week and worried about sticking to this. It’s too soon for a break and I don’t want to go through the first days again / reverse all progress. Not sure I have the willpower though!

Oysterbabe · 14/08/2020 06:48

Hello!
I hope you don't mind me joining in.
I went from. 13st 7 to 10st 7 using OMAD but I went off track and am back up to 11st 5. I need to sort this out before I'm back where I started. I've been really trying to shift the lockdown lard but OMAD isn't really working for me anymore. I'm permanently WFH now and am a lot less active. I also really struggle with the temptation of the kitchen being so close and my portion sizes have got too big.
I've just read Fast 800 and am ready to give it a go. Historically I've done pretty badly with calorie counting but I think I need to to get my portions under control.

Oysterbabe · 14/08/2020 06:52

I've just bought some digital kitchen scales and, just for fun, ketosis test strips :)
I think buying stuff helps make me feel motivated.

outwest · 14/08/2020 07:07

@Oysterbabe Good morning and welcome. I use kitchen scales for almost every meal. Very useful. Personally find strict counting very important, but not everybody feels same way. Many paths to success, but all lead in same general direction: towards lower calories and carbs.

NibbleQueen · 14/08/2020 07:38

9st8 today.. Maybe the retained water is finally leaving my system now it's a bit cooler.
Anyway, 1lb left to go, so if I'm reasonably well-behaved over the weekend this may be gone by Monday. Will probably be going out for wine this evening. Alcohol is definitely my nemesis where it comes to weight gain.

To be honest, based on my body fat I could probably stand to lose another half stone, but my husband and I are planning to TTC later on in the year so there seems little point if I've lost enough that I feel comfortable now.

Things I will keep from this:

  1. Fasting until lunch seems essential really. I will allow porridge at weekends though because I enjoy it
  2. size of meals. While I'm happy with protein+veg I thought husband would want extra starch, but he's been perfectly happy with a big plate of veg alongside his fish
  3. cautiousness around sugar. My sugar consumption had really crept up recently. While I still have a treat a day I will definitely try to keep things like cake for occasional treats, less than once a week
  4. don't really think I had a problem with refined carbs to begin with and will likely continue with GI type foods, with occasional pasta permitted. I enjoy it and it IS Mediterranean afterall
  5. alcohol. I have a troubled relationship with alcohol already so not drinking has helped with weight loss. But the past week has also showed me I don't need it to cope with stress and it can make it harder to cope with stress. Now I've just got to practice drinking smaller quantities of it!
NibbleQueen · 14/08/2020 07:39

Wow long post. Well done anyone who actually reads it!

Cantteach · 14/08/2020 08:16

0.8lb off overnight. Trying to be positive about that but I followed plan exactly yesterday and ate my calories over 2 meals. Before lockdown I used to walk a lot but that slid so I've been going out daily to build my steps back up again. Did 15k yesterday and felt like I was out of energy by the end. I had hoped this meant a full lb off. I guess I need to change my expectations. I want noticable results now Grin

NibbleQueen · 14/08/2020 09:08

1lb in 2 days is a bit of win tbh cantteach. Traditional diets project 1lb loss a week usually. Sounds like your actions are having an effect.

CurseryKinkajoo · 14/08/2020 09:25

So still very much in the planning stages - I’ve reduced my carbs, am sticking to 16:8 eating and recording what I’m eating but not ready yet to make the leap to 800 calories, Mai lay because I’m on holiday next week so have a couple of nights out planned etc.

I’ve watched the TV show now and am still deliberating over which recipe book to buy but now want to look at exercise!! I try to walk daily aiming for 10000 steps. I have the Down Dog app and try to do a short yoga session daily. I would like to add daily strength exercise - not a huge workout but 10-15 minutes of press-ups etc. Can anyone recommend a routine or app or video please?

Cantteach · 14/08/2020 09:54

Thanks nibble I do know that but good to have a reminder. As I said I am just hugely impatient, even though it has taken me years to get up to this weight, I, like every other dieter, just want to follow a diet for a few days and have miracles occur. I really need to mind shift that this is for the long haul, if I lost 2lb a week until Christmas I still wouldn't be at target Sad

Anyway, in more positive news, it's Day 4 and it's going well. I'm not hungry and actually was starting to struggle with dinner last night (Creamy cashew and tofu curry with cauliflower rice from book). It tasted great but there was a lot of it. I'm really surprised and pleased how quickly my body is adapting to this woe. I did have some mild headaches first couple of days which were probably due to to me not getting my usual white coffee fix. The heat has been a blessing in some ways as it's made the switch to water easy Smile

Justasecondnow · 14/08/2020 10:33

Annnnd i’m done!

Start: 11.1
Week 1: 10.9 -6
Week 2: 10.7 -2
Week 3: 10.5 -2
Week 4: 10.5 -0
Week 5: 10.3 - 2
Week 6: 10.0 - 3
Week 7: 9.12 - 2
Week 8: ?!?! (holiday week went off rails!)
Week 9: 10 +2
Week 10: 9.12 - 2
Week 11: 9.12 - 0
Week 12: 9.10 - 2
Week 13: 9:8 - 2

Right a lb off goal as was aiming for 9.7. But I’m happy with results - lost 21lbs and feel so much better. BMI is 22 down from 25 & waist is now 29 and in healthy range as opposed to 33 and over it.

To be honest given I’m still losing & clearly still have a bit of a belly I think I could stand to lose another 7lbs. But I’ve had enough for a bit! Seems like a healthy choice to try and maintain for a while now. Still intend to be back in Nov to try for that last half stone tho.

I’m likely going to pop in here but will
Start spamming that maintenance thread like crazy. I think life will be more fun on maintenance but definitely not a walk in park. Would be easy for me to fall back in to bad habits I think.

Anyway you can do it everyone starting out! I remember as I joined someone posted having just lost a stone and a half in about the 12 weeks.. and I was so hopeful this could get me there too. And it did!

Sorry long post!!

justanotherneighinparadise · 14/08/2020 10:43

Wow!!’ That’s so impressive @Justasecondnow 😮

Dinnerfor1 · 14/08/2020 10:49

Well done @Justasecondnow that’s brilliant.

Oysterbabe · 14/08/2020 10:55

That's amazing, I'd be thrilled with similar results. I've measured my waist and taken a couple of pictures in my underwear today Grin I'll repeat in 8 weeks and see where we are.

yumyumpoppycat · 14/08/2020 11:10

That is fantastic justasecond! Well done!
