It’s think my scales give me a 33% fat percentage too. I’m not necessary disagreeing as my BMI is just over 24. But I do wonder how accurate it is really. Don’t they usually use callipers in gyms?

ThePawtriarchy · 12/08/2020 17:42

Thanks @justanotherneighinparadise I’ve been on two meals a day, 16/8 sometimes 18/6 - I’m wondering if I’m better off having it as the first meal, around lunch, when I do. I’ll check out that video too.

I noticed in the new Michael Mosley show that he’s given them ketone testing strips too so seems they’re emphasising the lower carb angle (which I know they do as the med part of the WOE but thought that was interesting in the programme!).

justanotherneighinparadise · 12/08/2020 17:56

I just had a quick read re. accuracy and whilst it does seem to say they’re accurate it reminds me of a conversation I had with a PA many moons ago. Back then you could hold two sensors in your hands and a small current would go in your body and then out abs you’d get a fat reading. Well the sensors on the scale do the same but obviously up your legs and back out.

This PA said you would get a different day reading depending on whether you held the sensors or stood on the sensors. If you held the sensors the current would go up one arm and down the other. If you stood on the sensor it would go up one leg and down the other. Well considering as women we store most of our fat on our thighs, tummy and backside it stands to reason that reading will be high!

Hi there all

Today I've had:

L: scallop/tofu/green beans /broccoli; kefir ice cream
S: kimchi
D: salmon, za'atar carrots, pistachio dukkah; bit of choccy

Still no exercise really. Too hot outside, no space inside...

Brings today to 50g carbs and 680cals. No regrets on frozen kefir in this weather and 50g is still respectable I believe

Looking forward to watching the programme later!

3kidsareenough · 12/08/2020 20:38

Thanks yumyumpoppycat Think the fact that DH is seeing results already from the blood sugars is actually encouraging me to keep at it. Today was definitely a bit easier. Didn't eat until lunch time just had a big mug of coffee I usually have a massive mug of sweet milky coffee so no sugar and only a splash of milk is taking a bit of getting used to, but I enjoyed it this morning. Broke my fast from yesterday evening with a mushroom & spinach omelette and then beef stew with broccoli for dinner some Greek yogurt with strawberries for dessert. I think all in all it came in around 810. Hope everyone else got on okay today.

Off to bed here now! Spinning class early tomorrow morning if I have the energy! Confused

Patchworksack · 12/08/2020 22:56

Well if you only measure the fat on my thighs and arse it would definitely be high. Classic English pear here!

BlessYourCottonSocks · 12/08/2020 23:03

Can I join you? Desperate to kick start some weight look as I am currently obese and worried about risks to my health.

Does anyone have a link to free recipes for the 800 cal day? I've got an idea of what foods I can eat but no idea about portion sizes to match if that made sense.

sandwiches77 · 13/08/2020 07:14

Can I join you please? As my username suggests I love a sandwich, in fact any carbs...

I haven't weighed myself yet, but I know I'm obese Blush only able to fit into my elasticated waist clothes. I've tried every diet going but always fall off the wagon

Considering joining the Fast800 program but just wondering whether it is worth the cost when you can buy the books for a fraction of the cost?

My typical day..
B: cereal
L: sandwich, low fat yoghurt, cereal bar
D: spaghetti bolognaise, pizza and chips

I am a plain, traditional cook, dont use a lot of fancy ingredients.

Help

Facebook us fabulous for support and recipes when it comes to weight loss groups. I would absolutely recommend that avenue for info. Also you need to get as much info as you can re. The science. Once you understand it you’ll stick to it. I think audiobooks and podcasts and YouTube videos are an amazing resource so again I’d recommend that.

Low carb is t just a diet, it’s a lifestyle. You can’t try it for a couple of weeks and then go back to eating bread for every meal. Once you understand the psychological and physiological effects sugar abs carbs have ov our body and feel the health benefits once you transition, there’s no going back.

Patchworksack · 13/08/2020 07:22

Hi! I haven't tried the fast800 program so can't comment but easy enough to do it yourself and use threads like this for support. We've had to drastically cut carbs as my DH was diagnosed T2 diabetic. We have had no added sugar, bread, rice, potato, pasta for the last month. There are lots of ways to replace the carby portion of the meal, just a question of trying some new things to see what you like. The easiest is to have protein (meat, fish, cheese) with a big heap of salad or veg. We have tried courgetti to replace pasta, cauliflower and celeriac mash instead of potato, cauli rice instead of rice. If you cut sugar you will feel crap for a few days but then fairly quickly you stop needing it, I think it really is addictive.

justanotherneighinparadise · 13/08/2020 07:24

Another pound off over night so I’m 11 stone 1 now. Hopefully I’ll move into another stone bracket next week 🤞

formyboys · 13/08/2020 07:28

Marking and will join please!

NibbleQueen · 13/08/2020 07:31

9st8.4 this morning. Granted, the scales gave an initial reading of 9st11 but i stepped on again in exactly the same spot to get the 9st8.4 reading, which is more in line with readings on previous days.

Close to goal now (9st7). Tbh I've still got a bit more pudge than I'd like, but I'll be happy enough at 9st7.

For people who are maintaining or thinking about maintaining, how will you change your diet from the strictest version of the plan?

Faster800 · 13/08/2020 07:35

Hi

New here but have been doing Fast800 for nearly four weeks now and have lost 12lb so far!

First few days I was hungry but other than that it's been fairly easy (if monotonous!) My husband is doing it with me which helps enormously and he has lost around 18lb in the same time!

I eat at around 12/1pm and around 7pm and don't snack in-between.

So mainly positive except my losses have slowed to a snails pace this week! I'm hoping it's just the heat and water retention because other wise I'm a bit disheartened! But I need to keep telling myself if I stick to the rules it WILL keep coming off!

For those just starting out I definitely recommend it, if you can get past the first few days it gets so much easier! To the point where I can't believe how much I could eat before and still be hungry! Now I eat far less and not hungry at all!

Dinnerfor1 · 13/08/2020 07:47

Hello new starters!

Did anyone else watch Michael Mosley’s ‘Lose a stone in 21 days’ last night? I tried balancing on one leg with my eyes closed and could not do it at all so I guess I’m doomed!

justanotherneighinparadise · 13/08/2020 09:32

God if this doesn’t prove my eating is emotional I don’t know what does.

So my DC has a nasty rash and I decided to speak to my doctor about it just to be safe. They can set up video calling now, never done it before. After looking at it he rash he is talking onscreen about his thoughts and medication and all I can see is my horrendously old and wrinkled face gurning back at me covering half the screen. I couldn’t move the screen far enough away to not look terrifying and I could hardly even take in what he was saying I was so horrified. Directly we terminated the call my first reaction was I wanted to overeat something bad. I’m now all out of sorts. I feel kind of tearful. I have such a terrible relationship with my looks and body and to be suddenly confronted with my animated face during this call just jolted me.

Patchworksack · 13/08/2020 10:05

neigh I hope your son is OK. I detest Zoom meetings and having to look at myself. I think Web cams are not flattering to anyone but you judge yourself more harshly than others.

NibbleQueen · 13/08/2020 10:23

neigh hope your son is OK
Tbh I'm sure people don't notice our hang ups, they're usually too busy worrying about their own!
I stress drink usually. Have been fighting the urge the last couple of weeks and definitely feel better not having caved as feeling better in body and no shame/guilt/anxiety that usually comes after bingeing

Dinnerfor1 · 13/08/2020 10:29

@justanotherneighinparadise I’m sorry you’re feeling out of sorts. It’s so difficult to get out of the negative relationship with your own appearance, we are always our own worst critics. I also think the angle on video calls is very unflattering.

justanotherneighinparadise · 13/08/2020 10:34

I think it was accurate, it’s just very confronting. I’ve never liked my face or body even when I was young, so the feeling is nothing new, but add wrinkles and hollow eyes and a double chin and it’s got infinitely worse. I normally do my hair and make up and just leave it at that. To see my face how others see it as I’m talking is just terrible. Grotesque.

NibbleQueen · 13/08/2020 12:48

You are worth so much more than your physical appearance.

Justasecondnow · 13/08/2020 13:28

justanotherneighinparadise you’re not grotesque and too keen to believe an unflattering angle means you are! Honestly take a deep breath and step back - you’re possibly stuck on a bad script that just isn’t true! The cliche about you wouldn’t let your best mate talk about themselves like this so don’t do it to yourself holds true here I think.

On an aside this thread has moved fast! I’m on last week. Weigh in tomos whatever it is then maintenance. Will share thoughts about that later. I’m nervous about managing it I will admit!

Cantteach · 13/08/2020 14:14

neigh I totally understand at the start of lockdown we did weekly Zoom meetings with friends. I would always either lean off screen or have my hands over my face because I wanted to enjoy talking to my friends and I couldn't with my face staring back at me.

I went to hairdressers today for a cut and highlights. I used to dye it but feel too old for that block colour now. I let it grow out a bit but it just showed me how grey I am. I normally hate the hairdressers as I'm just sat there looking at myself but I thought the cut and colour would be good for my morale. Anyway I got to wear a mask the whole time so wasn't has horrendous as I feared Grin

Today is day 3 and I've lost 2.6lb. I will see how I'm going after a week as I usually lose 4ish lbs whatever diet I go on. Regardless, I have found it easy to follow and although I've not been full I've not been hungry either.
