Sorry to the ongoing couch to 5k thread but I am looking for others just starting out (and it looks like there might be quite a few of us on popsycal's thread).

So...anyone starting week 1 this week?

Back in business!

Did W1 run this evening - expected that my running ability would have gone back to starting point. Was sooo much easier then when I did it at the beginning of the month!
Knee only v slightly twingey so hoping that it will be OK tomorrow.

Really looking forward to going out again on Mon!

I did another continous run yesterday for 20 mins. I could have gone for longer but didn't want to do too much too soon. The distance was 2.2 miles/3.5 k. I think i'm going to say goodbye to Mr Robert now and just try and increase my running time by 5 mins each time.

I am so pleased I started this and only wish I had the presence of mind to do it years ago!

ClaudiaSchiffer · 01/02/2010 09:08

Wow Rollergirl that Rocks, well done! And Wuglet splendid work.

I've just returned from another 4k walk/jog, still doing 2 r and 2 w. I must say I found it MUCH easier than last time and LOVED it! Also did it at kids bathtime so dh did the kids so I think that made it extra enjoyable.

I have increased my averaged speed to just over 8 mins a km, rather than over 9 mins which was my time last week.

I'm gonna increase my running time from now on - run 3 mins wak 2 min.

HairyMaclary · 01/02/2010 16:31

Well done to everyone, I'm on Week 3 now of Robert's podcasts. I'm impressed at some of the times you have been running for, today was 90 sec r, 90sec w, 3 min r, 3 min walk - repeated twice. It was ok, I could do it, but the first 90 secs were torture! I really don't feel like I'm getting fitter but I suppose I must be. I think I thought I'd be flying by now (also hoped to have lost some weight!)
On the other hand the last run of week 2 that I did on Sat rather than Fri due to ill DC's was great - a real high! I think I just need to concentrate on that. I've signed up for a 2K fun run at the DC's school next weekend, no idea how long that will take me but I'm intending to run it all!

wuglet · 01/02/2010 21:19

Well done to everyone (in awe of you especially Rollergirl!)

I did a week 2 run tonight and my knee didn't hurt at all .

So will start week 3 again on Wed and hopefully be able to keep at it this time.

Need to get a pedometer so I know how far I am going (or might just drive my usual routes!)

Hi all, and glad you're up and running again, Wuglet.

I've just done Week 3, day 1. Bloody hell. My legs were actually screaming during the first three-minute run. But thank god for the recovery time! Managed it, but it feels like a big step up from last week. Funny how 90 seconds now feels incredibly reasonable ...

ClaudiaSchiffer · 02/02/2010 20:44

Hurrah for me, hurrah for meeeeeeeeeee

Just completed day 2 wk 3, run 3 walk 2 x 6 intervals and did 5K in 42mins. I feel fantastic, and exhausted and sweaty but great!

I ran at 6am and saw the most incredible sunrise.

I struggled on the last run but it was uphill. I can definately feel my pace pick up.

I find Runkeeper brilliant, I totally recommend it if you have an iphone.

llareggub · 02/02/2010 21:23

Wow, well done, that's great!

ClaudiaSchiffer · 02/02/2010 22:44

Quick question for you all, what do you listen to when running?

I have been listening to podcasts of The Archers , and fascinating as Helen and Annette are, I think I should get some music going.

llareggub · 02/02/2010 22:49

Nothing, as I can't get headphones to stay in!

HairyMaclary · 03/02/2010 16:22

Well done Claudia, that's amazing! I've had to miss today as both DS's are ill, not quite sure when I can catch up and it's starting to worry me! I think I've been bitten by the running bug!

Tabithacat · 03/02/2010 19:14

Wuglet - I use mapmyrun.com to work out how far to run.

Did the timed mile on Sunday and felt half dead afterwards, what on earth will it be like to run 3x that much?

On the positive side, like someone else said, 90 seconds is nothing now!

wuglet · 03/02/2010 21:24

The bupa programme definitely looks harder then the Robert Ullrey ones......

I just did R1W3..in falling snow!

That site is great Tabithacat - although sl disappointed to see I only did marginally over 3K today.

Quite tempted to time a mile though...hope Raaahhb doesn't get cross

CJCregg · 04/02/2010 14:43

Am slightly relieved I'm doing Raaaab and not the Bupa one! There's no way I could do that amount, that quickly. Just done week 3, run 2. Not bad, although at one point I thought my legs were going to buckle under me, I kept going and managed the whole thing. Took a different route, which made an enormous difference.

What I love is breaking through the 'I'm so tired and unfit, I can't do this' barrier. I can do it!

Wuglet, I was thrilled to see I'd done 3k!! Honestly, I used to be the picture dictionary definition of a couch potato, so it really is miraculous that I've got this far.

Hairy, hope you manage to get out soon. For your sake, and selfishly for me - I need a running mate!

HairyMaclary · 04/02/2010 18:26

CJ - Tomorrow it is - hopefully all better by then and I can go out. I have a 2K fun run on sun too so am going to count that as Week 3 Run 3 and start Week 4 on Mon.... I hope!

CJCregg · 04/02/2010 19:59

Am scared of Week 4 ...

CoteDAzur · 04/02/2010 21:22

Thanks for this thread! I recently started training to run and feeling a bit clueless.

MmeLindt - Which is the iPhone app you mention at the beginning of this thread, which beeps when to walk or run? I've been trying to get the Nike+ app to do that, with no success.

llareggub · 04/02/2010 21:48

Cote! Hello, it has been a long time since our ante-natal threads. How are you?

I did my run (week 3) on the treadmill today and ran 3, walked 3 and was thrilled to see that I'd run 3.17km. I can't believe it. I found it easier on the treadmill I think.

ClaudiaSchiffer · 04/02/2010 22:05

Hi Cote, the app you're talking about is Runkeeper - it's fab, I totally recommend it too.

wuglet · 05/02/2010 09:36

Did W3R2 this am...first time I have run in the light! Not too scary though, not many people saw me.

CJ I am scared of week 4 as well - but then in week 1 I would have been scared of week 3 so am hoping it will all be fine.

OP posts:
CJCregg · 05/02/2010 14:54

Wuglet, you are admirably pragmatic! I am just a doom merchant ...

Doing W3R3 tomorrow, in Primrose Hill - will just have to avoid all the steep slopes.

HairyMaclary · 05/02/2010 15:22

OK, managed W3R2 today, not as bad as I thought but both my knees are achey this pm. I noticed such a difference when I ran on the grass in the park near us and then moving back onto the pavement. The grass is much more forgiving on the body!!

MmeLindt · 05/02/2010 19:42

Well done everyone.

I had a break last week as I had bad pains in my knees. Started again yesterday and my knees are really sore again today.

I fell on my knees a couple of years ago when using rollerskates and had pain for about 3 months afterwards. Never bothered me since until I started running.

Will give it till Sunday then go out again, see what happens.

I did 3.5km yesterday, week 3 day 1 of bupa plan and it felt good. The weather was great and I saw two buzzards really close. So close that I was a bit worried about my fluffy wee dog.

CoteDAzur · 05/02/2010 20:43

Thanks, Claudia. I downloaded it. Now looking forward to my next run & seeing if it actually gets the winding roads of my little town. Can I use Runkeeper when Nike+ is on?

llarregub - Hey My training is slightly different than the BUPA plan. Today, I did 3 min run + 1 min walk, repeated 3 times. On the treadmill. I guess that puts me in W3. It was quite OK, I could have gone on for another set.

ClaudiaSchiffer · 05/02/2010 23:57

Hi all, well done everyone for progress, sorry to hear that your knees are buggered MmeLindt. Take it easy.

I did about 5Ks this morning - Runkeeper lost its GPS reference about 1/2 way round so didn't record my fabulous run . I did R3 W 1m 30sec x 6 (although it felt like a lot more!). Which was pretty knackering to be honest.

Are we on week 4 next week? I've sort of lost track?
