Sorry to the ongoing couch to 5k thread but I am looking for others just starting out (and it looks like there might be quite a few of us on popsycal's thread).

So...anyone starting week 1 this week?

Am swimming 2 nights per week and walking as much as possible during the day.
Now it is better am thinking of restarting the podcasts but walking fast instead of jogging.

Am going to do this 5k by hook or by crook though! even if I swim it!!!

HerMomminess · 26/01/2010 10:49

Howdie. Bit better here...did another run in the dark and much better!

Back in the pool yesterday eve too which felt great. (have to use a burns emoticon as we' re in Scotland!)

Wuglet don' t rush it! I think the fast walking sounds like a good idea. LOL at thought of swimming the 5k. I looked up some Race for life events and should SURELY be able to do it by June!

Tabithacat · 26/01/2010 14:59

Planning tonights run - just starting 2nd week, so 2 and 2, 5 times.

Sundays run was quite nice, made a change to run in daylight!

vachebleu · 26/01/2010 21:01

Blimey, I've got a bit behind with this thread. I'll catch up with what you've been up to from my phone later.

Anyway, I have to tell you that this evening's session went really well. On Sunday I really struggled and walked for the second half of the session. This time I managed all my intervals and enjoyed them! I didn't even cheat by telling myself there wasn't enough time for one more run .

Wuglet, sorry to hear you've had a set back and HerMomminess, it's what I always dread! I always have to have a really big wee before I get started.

Rollergirl1 · 27/01/2010 10:25

I did my first continous run today. I had mapped out a 0.5 mile route and the aim was to run there and back, so run a mile and time it. Well when I got to the halfway mark it only felt like I'd been running for about 5 mins so I carried on. I ran on to another significant landmark and then turned round and came back. When I got home I had been running for 15 mins non-stop. I have just mapped out the distance using Google Maps and I ran for 1.4 miles (2.3k). I am amazed and feel like I have must have got something wrong!?

MmeLindt · 27/01/2010 11:42

Oh, well done Rollergirl. I am finding it ever easier to run longer too.

I went out Monday and will go out tomorrow, kids off school today so no go. Once their football club starts up again in March I may go running while they are there.

It has gotten a LOT colder again, and the Bise - a strong wind that whistles up Lake Geneva - was up yesterday. I am hoping that tomorrow will be a bit warmer. The Bise is a killer.

Wuglet
Take it easy with the knee, do walking and swimming to build strength up first.

Rollergirl1 · 27/01/2010 12:28

Yes it has got much colder here too. Was 0 degrees when I dropped the kids at Nursery this morning and today was the first time I wish I'd had gloves on as my fingers felt liek they were about to drop off.

Was so nice to be able to run to my own music rather than listening to rawbert and his cheese-fest house music. I have to say after today I am considering abandoning the podcasts and just trying to run for a little longer each time. What do people think? Do you think would be a bad move and maybe getting ahead of myself?

CJCregg · 27/01/2010 12:38

Hi all. Aren't you all doing well!

I'm cold and lethargic today. Would Wuglet or someone please give me the mandatory kick up the arse? A really good, loud one?

Thanks

HairyMaclary · 27/01/2010 13:13

CJ - Off you go I've been today, didn't want to at all, it's freezing and drizzling and I only had 45 mins to run, change and shower before picking up DS2 - but I did it! Week 2 run 2 - now get going!

I found it ok, noticed I ran further this time that on any of the other runs, no idea how far though. I almost daren't map my route, I don't want to know. I certainly don't think I could do a continuos run yet. Is that part of the BUPA plan? Well done those who managed it!

CJCregg · 27/01/2010 14:57

Thanks, Hairy - just got back. I honestly don't think I'd have got out there if you hadn't given me a shove.

It was fine, though. The fifth one made my legs ache, but I got through to the end with no real difficulty. See you on Friday!

(By the way, I have no idea how far I've run - I just go round and round the cricket field ... keep getting my ankles nipped by excited dogs)

HerMomminess · 27/01/2010 17:37

Okay...if CJ got out there then I can surely do it.

Roller I am not doing the podcasts but rather modified R/W regime. Totally do-able as long as you build up gradually.

Will try to get out tonight!

HerMomminess · 27/01/2010 21:58

And I did it! Quite nice on the treadmill to 'track' exact progress. Did 3R/1W for 30min.With warm up&cool down walk. Not at 5km but it is do-able.

Hang in there ladies.

And waterworks seems better too...(no more Burns emoticonsphew.Sorry if tmi.

ClaudiaSchiffer · 28/01/2010 01:54

About to go for a run. I sooooo don't want to. Feel fat and lazy and look like a fatty and feel fed up. grumpgrumpgrump.

Whinge.

ClaudiaSchiffer · 28/01/2010 02:58

Well . . . I did it. I hated it and found it really difficult today. I felt heavy - sort of no energy, I took longer than usual - 40 mins to do 4 K and I found the final 2 min run really hard (I walked).

I don't know if it's because I was wildly drunk on Tuesday (australia day) and still aren't quite over it , or whether running at midday on a warm day makes a difference? I usually go first thing in the morning when I'm full of beans (!).

Hopefully Saturdays run will be better.

HerMomminess · 28/01/2010 12:05

Hang in ther claudia.Follow these instructions:
1.Blame it on combo of external factors ie drunk/heat etc.
2.Pat self on back for going out.
3.Forget you felt cr@p&write it off
4.Plan next run

squashedfrogs · 28/01/2010 22:03

I've been out for a run this evening for the first time in over a week. For various reasons I haven't been able to get out on other days and so I was determined to go this evening, got ready, opened the door and it was raining!

The temptation to go back indoors was almost overwhelming but I went anyway. Fortunately in the dark no one could see me doing my silly run and I managed to get through the 30 mins.

Roll on Saturday for the next run.

llareggub · 29/01/2010 09:24

Yesterday's run was awful. Tomorrow I have to my timed mile and having measured it out, it is further than I thought.

I'll never do a 5K!

ClaudiaSchiffer · 29/01/2010 09:59

Come on llareggub, you can do it, you can do it, GO GO GO etc etc

Are you going to attempt a mile non-stop?

I'm going again tomorrow, having not drunk a drop of booze for 3 days, I'm hoping I'll be flying along as I'll be so pure.

Well done to you too squashedfrogs and thanks for the gee up Hermomminess, I'm not giving up yet.

CJCregg · 29/01/2010 10:11

Morning all. I have to run today and don't really feel like it. Wish it wasn't so damp.

Also have a report to finish and keep putting both off - 'I'll run first/no, I'll work first/no, do the run/Oh, why not waste an hour on MN, doing neither' ...

I will do it, though, because it is run no.3 and I want to hear ol' Bob saying 'if this is your 3rd run this week, congratulations, you have completed Week 2' - I'm such a sucker for a pat on the back from authority.

CJCregg · 29/01/2010 14:37

It's very quiet today.

Went for my run. Nearly fell on my arse in the mud. Legs ached. Starting to really hate that fecking music. But I did it.

Ashamed to say I'm really looking forward to two rest days now

Have a good weekend, everybody.

wuglet · 29/01/2010 17:36

Well done CJ!

I am hoping to run tomorrow - have done a bit of cautious jogging whilst walking and knee seems to be holding up.

If all goes to plan I want to do one week 1 run, then 2 days later a week 2 run, then start week 3. Accept that I might not be able to and will just have to start again from the beginning.

Fingers crossed!!

CJCregg · 29/01/2010 21:15

Damn! Slipped on bloody ice this evening and bashed my knee. It's really sore but I think I only scraped the skin. Really hope I'll be ok to get running again on Monday.

Wuglet, I really sympathise. So frustrating having made a good start ... Hope you're ok tomorrow.

Have great weekends, everyone.

llareggub · 29/01/2010 22:06

Oh no! As Wuglet gets back on her feet CJ falls down.

BananaGio · 30/01/2010 16:09

can anyone suggest a good pedometer? Am looking for something that shows distance and ideally something you can reset easily. Been looking at the Omron ones and they look a bit fiddly to reset. I want something I can use just to time the distance of my run.

llareggub · 30/01/2010 17:53

Has anyone timed themselves over a mile? I did it today in 11 minutes 50 seconds which doesn't sound very good to me. I ran/walk but tried to run the first quarter a mile, which I did in 3 minutes. I feel very slow.
