Sorry to the ongoing couch to 5k thread but I am looking for others just starting out (and it looks like there might be quite a few of us on popsycal's thread).

So...anyone starting week 1 this week?

Oh and also I HAVE LOST ONE KILO!!!!!!!

Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

CoteDAzur · 06/02/2010 07:31

Well done for that long run and the kg!

I've dipped under 64 kgs this morning on the scales, for the first time in 4 years or so. I've lost a bit over 4 kgs since mid-December and that baby tummy is finally showing signs of diminishing.

squashedfrogs · 06/02/2010 09:49

Hi everyone, well done on all your progress! I'm a bit behind as I kept on doing Robert's week 1 for about 3 weeks . Have stepped it up to week 2 now though and can feel the benefits as well as being amazed that I could do the extra running without seriously suffering. I didn't quite manage "you should be able to maintain a conversation" but I haven't had the desperate attempts to get air into my lungs either!

I also worked out how far I'd run/walked and managed 1.95miles (3.14km) in 30 mins. Before I started this I had no idea how I would ever manage 5km but it is looking achievable now.

squashedfrogs · 06/02/2010 09:55

Wuglet - just seen your earlier post about wanting to work out how far you've run. I found this website which lets you work out the distance of your route.

MmeLindt · 06/02/2010 15:39

Well done, Claudia. Runkeeper has it's problems here sometimes too. Recently it showed that I had run over the lake and back. Now I know I am doing well but I am not quite walking on water yet

Can you believe it is snowing again. Gah.

Will go out tomorrow, got the DC alone today.

ellielou02 · 06/02/2010 20:37

Hi Ladies,
I finally managed to start the couch to 5k programme again this week going out for my third run tomorrow, was out yesterday in the pouring rain but didnt mind the rain was wrapped up and it was lovely to be out on my own with just my ipod I ran from our towns harbours along the coast line was great
I am not doing the bupa one this time though but doing get running, it was an iphone app. DH got me an iphone and its so good using get running cos you can have your music on and it just interrupts the music to tell you what to do and when . You all probably know this but I am just so excitited about it.

HairyMaclary · 06/02/2010 21:10

Oooh Cote - well done to get under 64kg - that's my target - I'm 68 now - the heaviest I have ever been and I'm not liking it! I don't seem to be loosing any with the running though!

My knees are still achey too Mme lindt, have the 2K fun run tomorrow though so have to do that. Not sure if I can also do Week 4 run 1 on Monday though!

Well done everyone, having this thread here is really motivating me!

CoteDAzur · 06/02/2010 21:36

Hairy - You sound like me, six weeks ago. 68 kg was the heaviest I had ever been, as well. My goal is to get to 60 kg, where I was pre-kids. Another 4 kg to go!

I'm following the advice of a dietician this time, and restricting the amount of food I eat, not the kind - i.e. I eat carbohydrates at every meal (pasta, bread, rice, etc). Very important, apparently. I am told that exercise by itself will not lead to significant weight loss, especially if it leads to "reward" mentality a la "I ran for a half hour, so now I can have this cake".

CoteDAzur · 06/02/2010 21:42

Btw, have I mentioned that my first outdoor running experiences of last week proved very educational? For example, I now know why running pants are very tight. Because I managed to tangle one foot in the cuff of the other within a minute of setting out, and fell flat on my face, scraping both elbows (how?!?).

Also, I now know why running sweatshirts sometimes have hoods, after freezing my ears off. Ditto for runner's gloves.

wuglet · 06/02/2010 21:54

Oooh thankyou squashed frogs. Had used the mapmyrun link which is fine - but your one uses Google Earth.
I hadn't looked at that for aaaages and there is a new pic of my house. Must have been taken around the time of DD/DS birthday as we had a massive (30ft) marquee in the garden so now I can see my exact house even when zoomed out quite far!
Will be doing the last W3 run tomorrow as that means Week 4 approaches...someone who is already at that point tell me it is fine.

hello everyone! I've just done a 2.5 mile run after a month off (but crosstraining) with phsyio to get dodgy leg working again after straining musles on the couch to 5k run plan - 'done too much, much too young/well soon'
feeling v chuffed
am aiming for great north run in sept with 5k along the way in june

MmeLindt · 06/02/2010 22:26

lol at the reason for tight trews.

Oh, I would be so thankful to be anywhere in the region of 65kgs. I am not at my heaviest, but my heaviest for ages. I have noticed that I am eating less junk since starting running.

Knees not sore today so off out again tomorrow. Actually that is a huge improvement, last time it took a week before they stopped hurting, this time just a day.

llareggub · 07/02/2010 12:43

Well, I've finished week 3! 5 lots of 3 minutes running and walking alternate and excluding my warm-up I did 3.5k. I can scarcely believe how much I've achieved in 3 weeks.

Am looking forward with some trepidation to wee4: 5 minutes of running with 3 minutes walking, 3 times. Yikes!

MmeLindt · 07/02/2010 16:37

llareggub
I am at the same stage, week 3 day 3. Found it really hard going today as it was very windy. La Bise, a strong wind that is very common in this area was blowing today.

Knees a bit sore but ok.

CoteDAzur · 07/02/2010 17:03

I just finished W3, too, with a 2.5 km run here. Not a straight route, and lots of uphill/downhill, but breathtaking views!

My first run with RunKeeper - thank you for the recommendation, it was brilliant.

I am now officially addicted to running - dreaming about it last night and itching to go running today.

CoteDAzur · 07/02/2010 17:04

Oh and weighed 62.6 kgs this morning, somehow losing 1.4 kgs since yesterday Maybe it's all that running I did in my dream last night?

MmeLindt · 07/02/2010 17:24

Oh, I am jealous of your view Cote. Lovely.

CJCregg · 07/02/2010 18:04

Hi all. Ok, so did W3R3 yesterday - was fine, tiring but I even managed a tiny bit of uphill.

Then I made the mistake of sneaking a peek at W4 and nearly fell over. This is Raaaaahb we're talking about - small increments, nothing too strenuous, unlike you Bupa athletes ... Tomorrow I have to kick straight off with 3 mins followed by 5mins, with only 90secs in between.

Can only just puff through a 3-minuter at the moment, screaming for that weird voice to come through the ether saying 'Great! You've completed your fourth innerval'.

HTF am I going to do 5, please?

vachebleu · 07/02/2010 18:59

Meh. Can someone come over here and give me a kick up the arse please. I'm struggling to get going with week 3 and I really want to get into my jammies rather than my running gear

MmeLindt · 07/02/2010 19:16
wuglet · 07/02/2010 20:44

You can do it CJ!

I will be doing it the day after you so please be positive!

I know what you mean though - Raab can be so cruel, you hear his voice and think "Yes! Done it!" but he is saying "One minute to go!".

It's getting a bit warm for me, will have to get a thinner top. The great thing about running when it was freezing was that I didn't get my usual tomato face....but am still marginally pink even though I have been back 30min.

Oh, and vachebleu....YOU BETTA HAVE BIN RUNNIN TONIGHT LADY OR WE WILL HAVE TO HAVE WORDS!!

OP posts:
sanfairyann · 07/02/2010 21:10

did some crosstraining today - 30 mins of hills on the gym bike - am exhausted

CoteDAzur · 07/02/2010 21:16

After running in my old padded bras today, fearing with every step that the thin straps would come off in the back, I now ordered "shock absorber" bras.

I'm also a bit worried about W4.

ClaudiaSchiffer · 07/02/2010 21:21

Cote, that view is astonishing. How lucky you are!

Vachebleu, did you get out there? If you did I bet you feel FANTASTIC now, if not, no wuckers, just go tomorrow.

I was due to start my wk 4 today (its monday morning already here) but after a night where the dds woke me FOUR times I was snoring too hard to wake at 5.30am so dh too the dog out in my place. If it's not too hot tonight (gonna be 37 today) I'll go about 6ish.

Happy running everyone.

HairyMaclary · 07/02/2010 21:59

CJ and Cote - you will be fine with Week 4! Instead of W3 run 3 I did a 2K fun run today and I managed a full 10 mins run before I allowed myself a 90 sec walk (to get up the hill ) I then ran the rest - oh apart from the bit where I fell over and strained my ankle and had to limp for about a minute!
I was really impressed with myself as I was so nervous before hand and thought it was too much too soon. In fact I was fine, but 3 weeks ago I would never have been able to manage it.
I think I'm going to have to wait till Weds to start Week 4 though as my ankle is now sore and wrapped up in a tubigrip with ice on it. I am more cross that I hurt myself and now can't run than in pain though .
