I was waiting for someone else to start it but had to take the plunge to tell you i just did my w5r3. I managed it but am hurting. Started off too quick and was wrecked 5 mins in but slowed it down - kept going and got to about 14 mins in when my ankles started really hurting - i kept on going anyway and was v relieved when raaawb said that was it - i then proceeed to hobble home - the bath is filling as i type and my ankles are painful but still that i did it.

Hi all, can I join you here please .

I started this last year but after a succession of coughs and colds gave up too quickly.

I'm just back from my first w1 run and feel fantastic! Please someone remind me of this feeling when I'm struggling to get motivated again on Monday!

Couple of things:

I really like listening to my music when out, so what's the best way of timing my walk/run?

Also, can anyone recommend a decent mp3 or whatever that I can clip on somehow?

sorky · 30/05/2009 09:20

I used to be a runner, but just as I have previously got my fitness back I get pg again
After my 4th and FINAL baby 3 months ago, I'm now trying to recover my fitness from 7 years ago.

I did my first mile 2 weeks ago and it nearly killed me!
I did my second on Wednesday and it was a bit easier, then the third last night, which was good.

3 mile usually takes me 25 minutes, in between pg, so I might well compile my own music

Thanks for the encouragement

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 30/05/2009 10:06

I have a thing that my ipod goes in so it fastens on my arm. Will try and find a link to one some time.

HuffwardlyRudge · 30/05/2009 10:47

Milky - the ipod shuffle is teeny and clips to anything.

milkycuntalinasgone · 30/05/2009 12:33

Cheers, am going to get an ipod shuffle.

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 30/05/2009 21:20

Have done my 25 week run of W7R1

I think I am going to bid farewell to Rawb as today he only told me to run, told me when it was half way through and told me to stop. Music wasn't that inspiring and there was one piece that had someone who sounded like the Joker laughing .

Am going to work out how far I went and how fast I went

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 30/05/2009 21:25

I ran 2.1636 miles which is 11.33 minutes per mile.

How do you get faster at running? I suppose you need a longer stride, but my legs feel so heavy I can imagine lifting them up any higher.
Will keep trying though

milkycuntalinasgone · 31/05/2009 07:34

Wow well done lovelyrita .

My legs are aching today!

NorkyButNice · 31/05/2009 11:07

25 minutes done! Can't believe I've finished Week 6.

I too have left Rawb behind - I ran today listening to the Scouting for Girls album - it got me through

I did 2.24km in the 25 mins.

Good luck anyone else running today!

NorkyButNice · 31/05/2009 11:07

Doh - that should be 2.24 miles...

HuffwardlyRudge · 31/05/2009 17:17

W4 R2 completed in 37 degree heat. Didn't bother to slow down between the last 2 running sections. Am enjoying it.

HouseisJackBauersDoctor · 31/05/2009 20:03

Ugh. W3 R3 almost completed in over 30 degree heat. I had to walk about 30 seconds too early for the last bit of the first 3 min run, I just had nothing, but then I slowed down (even more...I could barely overtake a pensioner walking now) and managed the rest.

For those with knee pain I finally tracked down my brother last night, who is a top class cyclist and lectures in sports science even though he is still doing his masters.

He says that the knee and upper calf pain can come from instability, made worse by the weight being put up your poor unsuspecting knees. His solution is to run on as level ground as possible, and ground that is firm.
In order,
FIRM grass is the best, as in level, and not boggy. (This was my problem, have run through most parks in swansea to find firm grass!)
Then paths, then boggy grass and last sand as there is no give.

This is not professional advice BTW, just what my bro told me over the phone. I ran on level(ish - I do live in Wales donchaknow) paths and my knees are nowhere near as bad as they have been.

Chinwag · 31/05/2009 20:18

I seem to be going backwards!! (not literally )

I did 25 mins non stop a few weeks ago, and then started the Bupa 10k plan, which begins with 15 mins + 15 mins. Had a break for a week or so cos my hips hurt, and now I can't do this at all!! Feels like a real struggle.

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 31/05/2009 20:30

Hello thought id check in - wow your all romping ahead! Well i have worn a support ankle bandage the last 3 days and took lots of ibuprofen and my ankle feels loads better now - what i do have as i have been living in my shorts is a triffic tan mark where my bandage was so if anythign i will look even more a knob when im running!!

I am going to pick up tomorrow night and start week 6 and take it very slowly. Hopefully i will get back into it pain free. Have our other injuries eased up?

It less than 2 weeks to my race for life so im getting a bit anxious to get back into it.

Hello all. Well, I took a week off after hurting my back (the irony after wishing everyone else well with their injuries) and went into week 4 this morning. The last 5 minute run was a bit of a struggle and I am now a beetroot runner too...just my luck that this will be a really hot summer when I am trying to get to 5k!

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 01/06/2009 12:42

i am just downloading week 6 now - ankle mild achey but not painful so going to chance it when it cools down tonight. Will wear my dodgey stocking support sock

HouseisJackBauersDoctor · 01/06/2009 15:01

I can't figure out how to easily do a podcast so I have made a playlist of songs that are the length of the walk or run! So I just change speed when teh track changes.
Will try it out tomorrow...

TrillianAstra · 01/06/2009 16:45

Didn't run last week. No excuses. Too lazy.

W6R1 today in theory but it's too sunny, going to have to wait til later I think.

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 01/06/2009 17:12

I am probably not going to run until Wednesday, if then as have to do markign which I think might need to be done tomorrow when DD is at pre-school.

Hmm

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 01/06/2009 19:46

Just done w6r1 - probs got home 1 min before the last run ended but my ankle was starting to get hurty so didnt want to push it. I will rest now till Thurs i think to give chance to recover. Something is defo up with the blighter. We have a free physio attached to work so just emailed them for a self referal. I put my trainers on as tight as i could bare and wore my support thing - it was a lovely evening for running though. My speed was ermmm speedless .

canella · 01/06/2009 20:43

well done all of you for todays running - you did well nappy for nearly getting to the end before it started to hurt.

i did w2r1 this morning - dd (nearly 8) is off for half term so she was my personal trainer!! she was on her bike and had rawb in her ears - she took great pleasure telling me to run - didnt entirely trust her to tell me when to walk!!! i know i ran for longer but was confused why i was recovering for longer? 90 secs run and 2 mins walk? i'm sure it gets more running next week!

resting till thurs now - too much on on weds to run!

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 01/06/2009 21:14

oooo canella i like your idea though too wouldnt trust dd ! There is method behind rawbs madness and like magic you will be running great lengths with ease!

TrillianAstra · 02/06/2009 09:59

W6R1 this morning (before it got too hot, or that was the plan). Was fine. at the idea that an 8 minute run is no big deal. I don't like how run3 of this week is longer than everything else put together, including the walks! Scary!

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 02/06/2009 13:32

It's OK - you just keep going somehow

Not sure when DH will get back tonight - might try an evening run.

HuffwardlyRudge · 02/06/2009 14:49

I am going to go for a run this evening. I definitely am. Cross my heart and hope to, well, not die, but something quite inconvenient.

I will go.

I will I will I will.
