I was waiting for someone else to start it but had to take the plunge to tell you i just did my w5r3. I managed it but am hurting. Started off too quick and was wrecked 5 mins in but slowed it down - kept going and got to about 14 mins in when my ankles started really hurting - i kept on going anyway and was v relieved when raaawb said that was it - i then proceeed to hobble home - the bath is filling as i type and my ankles are painful but still that i did it.

!! Thank you, HuffwardlyRudge (possibly the best name I've ever heard!) All downloaded, and ready to run limply tomorrow!

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 27/05/2009 21:08

Well done Norky

Am going to do w6r3 tomorrow. Some time, probably after I have got back home from work in London. Must make sure I eat first though as the time when I didn't I felt awful, and don't want to feel like that for running 25 min.

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 27/05/2009 23:53

Bother. Have mislaid new headphones. Only have ones that work sometimes and generally through only one ear

AitchTwoOh · 28/05/2009 10:41

canella, chinwag, any idea about the hip pain? i'm getting it too, mostly on the left side.

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 28/05/2009 13:41

Have found proper headphones

Now need to be motivated to run later on

sorky · 28/05/2009 14:02

Hi can I join in. I'm turning 35 soon and needvto get back in shape after my FINAL child.
I ran a mile night before last and it felt okay.
Need some motivation really, I've downloaded the week 1 to start tonight.

I'm wondering where to run. How do you plan your runs so that you don't end up far away from home?

Chinwag · 28/05/2009 16:15

Hi Sorky; welcome.

Yes, stay close to begin with, until you feel confident that you'll make it home!! Good luck, and let us know how you get on.

Aitch, I am no expert, but I googled it last week and found this.... Hope it helps

orthopedics.about.com/cs/sportsmedicine/a/runninginjury.htm

canella · 28/05/2009 19:34

most of these injuries come from wearing shoes that arent supporting you properly and then the strain is felt in other joints. make sure you're feet arent turning inwards when you run - you might need an arch support in your shoe.

(Big disclaimer - i am a physio but havent done orthopaedic physio for a very long time!! but i have got loads of friends who do so i'm happy to pass your queries on to them!!)

was glad to have a rest day today - my legs were still achey this morn. Had a route planned that i did on weds throught the forest but i realised at the end a lot of it was slowly uphill! going to go the other way round tomorrow!

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 28/05/2009 21:54

I did 25 minutes running

Without stopping

And saw lots of rabbits and a deer.

AitchTwoOh · 28/05/2009 22:00

aw, how fantastic. well done.

canella · 29/05/2009 08:52

well done metermaid!!! i long for those days!!

i did w1r3 and was pleasantly surprised that my 1 minutes were up - could have definitely run for longer! havent seen anyone else on my other runs this week (we live in the countryside) so was pleased to be at a running part when i went past a runner this morning - felt like i could hold my head high!

bring on w2!!!

lulalullabye · 29/05/2009 09:15

Hello, can I be another newbie. I have just started running at the gym with a personal trainer. I am firstly quite astounded that I can sort of do it ! With that I mean a max of six minutes straight (then obviously passed out) and secondly, that I am really quite enjoying it .

Everybody tells me that I will be running 5k in no time. Is that true ????

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 29/05/2009 12:03

Hello lullabye adn canella

I wouldn't quite say 5k will happen in no time, but I have only been running for 6 weeks and can go so much further than I could at the beginning .

Even vaguely enjoying it now .

Need to decide when to run tomorrow or Sunday - will try tomorrow I think but am at work all day both days. Will be good when I can run when DD is at pre-school again.

lulalullabye · 29/05/2009 12:10

Downloaded rahhbert and managed to do the week 3 one, as have been doing a little running at the gym. I do need to get a breathable but warmish jacket type thing, as live in melbourne and getting cold but my hoodie makes me too hot and sweaty ! Any tips ?

HuffwardlyRudge · 29/05/2009 12:16

Really not enjoying week 3. Am going to skip ahead to week 4 this evening. Need to run off a delicious burger and chips for lunch !

NorkyButNice · 29/05/2009 12:56

Welcome lulalullabye (and everyone else who's jumped on board recently)!

If you're running 6 minutes straight already then you're well ahead of most couch 2 5k newbies

I just did w6r2 with 2 10 minute runs with a 3 minute walk - it felt fine, and I could have gone for longer so am feeling good about my increase in fitness and stamina.

I met a friend for dinner this week, and she said "How are you so thin and toned?!?!" - felt suitably smug when I told her that she'd inspired me to take up running after losing some weight, and it's obviously taking effect!

HouseisJackBauersDoctor · 29/05/2009 13:59

I am on wk3 r3 tomorrow and am suffering!
I did wk3r2 yesterday and my knees and calves are agony. I am sure it is because I am forcing my knees to lump around all my weight but when you get home, have a barth and then still can't get onto the floor to play with bored DD's it is not good!
Any ideas?

I found it tough going TBH, I ran it mostly on grass in the hopes that would help my knees but the local park is on the side of a hill, so I am either running up a slope, careering down one or running on an angle!
Fingers crossed for tomorrow, might try the beach for a change...

potatofactory · 29/05/2009 14:07

Did my first run!! I enjoyed it - and - Rahhhbert, if you're listening, I couldn't have done it without you

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 29/05/2009 14:36

Well done Norky

When are you doing W6R3?

HuffwardlyRudge · 29/05/2009 18:04

Just done w4 r1.

Most importantly, I thought the music was a bit better!

The run was good.

NorkyButNice · 29/05/2009 20:36

Well done on the 25 minutes too Rita - I'm not convinced that I'll manage it when I try it on Sunday.

JackBauer - I found that each time you increase the time or distances, I suffered with aching calves etc, but it's definitely improved with time (and as weight has decreased). Am very envious you have the option of running on the beach!

HouseisJackBauersDoctor · 29/05/2009 20:51

Thanks norky, am hoping that is it. I am supposed to be following my sisters horrific plan that she designed for me, which has me doing 4 lots of 3min run and 3 min walk on week 3 so she is saying to extend my walks. I haven't told her about raahbert
They aren't so bad at the moment so hopefully tomorrow won't be too bad.

Will let you know how beach was!

sorky · 29/05/2009 21:59

Well done everyone!
Have downloaded raahbert but to my iphone, need to find my shuffle to run with.
I went out again tonight and managed a mile but this time it was much easier

I think I might move up to a 2 mile run on Sunday, should I not find my shuffle by then.
If I wanted to do about 2 miles, which week should I start on with the odd-american?

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 29/05/2009 22:46

Hello sorky. Depends how fast you run - but for me I think about 25 min is two miles. There is a 25 min run at the end of week 6 (each run in week 6 is different), or week 7 is all 25 min runs.

I am impressed at someone who can go straight to a mile

NorkyButNice · 30/05/2009 06:40

Hi Sorky

To echo Rita, 2 miles takes you approximately to start of week 7 (at my pace anyway). At which point I think you just get straight 25 minute runs with no walking, so you could forget the American dude and create your own playlist of better music!

Rawb is a great help for anyone who needs to build the ability to run at all (I could barely run for 30 seconds 7 weeks ago). If you think you will need to run/walk then maybe try w6r2 first.
