Forgot to add, well done on the netball buffy 🙌🙌🙌

BezMills · 07/06/2024 07:17

haha I'm going to call them handy flipflops from now on @roonetta

I didn't swim at all yesterday, took the chance to rest during the day instead. Then BodyCombat back-to-back with BodyPump. I am still getting used to BodyPump and making interesting choices with the weights on the bar etc. Legs were absolutely deaded by the end!

Family birthday yesterday so I didn't have time to do anything. Today was very tight for time too, so I combined my civic and physical duties (local and EU elections here today) and ran to the polling station.

I've a pair of those hand paddles too and yes, they are like flip flops! I find them a bit of a weapon in the pool though, I nearly whacked someone with them one day in a tight lane so I stick to webbed gloves now.

Yoga class done. I've had a complete fail since I got back from holiday thanks to a combination of jet lag and fear of T25! Hoping to get back on it this weekend.

38 (I think).

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 09/06/2024 09:25

T25 cardio done. It's going to be grim, but if I stick with it I'll be quite a lot fitter by the summer holidays.

BezMills · 09/06/2024 12:32

BodyCombat today, 84

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 10/06/2024 20:09

T25 Speed done - marginally less evil than the cardio, although it was a challenge to my co-ordination. This thing involves doing the Alpha set of five DVDs for 5 weeks, then switching to the Beta set for another 5 weeks. True masochists can fork out more money for a separate box of Gamma DVDs, but I already know that’s not me.

Ran to/from s&c today. It was brutal.

What's T25 Professor?

OP posts:
ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 11/06/2024 10:50

It's by Shaun T - the Insanity guy. I went for it because I need workouts that are reliably under 30 minutes. The theory is that you exercise for 6 days a week, but I think I'm going to drop the second cardio and make it 5.

It's no fun but I hate exercise anyway, I've given up any pretence that I'll find anything I actually like. Today's was Total Body Circuit - far too many push-ups with some evil cardio as well. Probably not as brutal as yours, though, MotherForkin!

BezMills · 11/06/2024 13:24

ach it's a shame if you haven't found anything you like to do @ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson

Fair play to you for getting it done anyway, in that case! Have you tried groupt classes like DanceFit, Step, BodyCombat or Boxercise at all? Not everybody's cup of tea, some people just don't like the group format for different reasons. I know a lot of people that aren't into any other form of training but love their group fitness classes.

I hear you, Professor I don't particularly enjoy any of the exercise I do. I used to. When i was doing heavy Olympic lifting a few years back and swimming was like meditation. These days it's much more of a slog. I'll keep doing it because I know it's good for me, but it's definitely so much more of a chore.

Anyway, just back from a short run.

OP posts:
roonetta · 11/06/2024 18:25

I agree about not actually enjoying exercise. I haven't even been able to keep up with the mile a day I was supposed to be doing which is embarrassing Blush.

Got a 3 mile WWL done today.

Hi hope it’s ok if I join this thread. Perimenopause has reared its ugly head and I’ve put on about a stone. Trying to get my diet in check but exercise is something I do enjoy so would love to be accountable. What do the numbers mean that people put after their posts?

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 12/06/2024 13:16

110
Hello Dreemhouse, you're very welcome. My number is how many days of exercise I've done this year. I've a love hate relationship with it, it's currently motivating me but can tip into a stressor!

I cycled to/from the gym for my class today.

OP posts:
BezMills · 12/06/2024 14:12

welcome @Dreemhouse !

I've found some things I generally enjoy doing (BodyCombat, Pilates, Swimming) and binned off pretty much everything else. Even swimming I don't treat as exercise but more of a mental health thing. I swim because I enjoy it, and the fitness is a side-effect. Pilates isn't exactly fun, but I enjoy the challenge.

I had a go at weightlifting early this year but it's hard to find the time to be consistent and if you miss too many days between sessions the gains fairy doesn't visit. I expect I'd do more weights when I retire or go part time - for now I'm lucky enough to have time to do BodyPump a couple times a week. Not quite the same, but very effective per time spent.

roonetta · 12/06/2024 18:08

Welcome @Dreemhouse 👋. As Motherforkin said, my numbers are the amount of days exercised this year. My number is paltry this year but I'm struggling with the motivation to do any more at the moment.

Managed a 2 mile WWL today

Dreemhouse · 12/06/2024 19:39

Aahh thank you for the welcome and makes sense re: the numbers. I’m not sure how many I’ve done this year so I’ll just start from today.

My problem since having DC has always been consistency. I’ll start again and before I know it, life has got in the way and I won’t do anything again for a few months. Which makes it so hard to start again! I would love to be a regular runner again by the end of summer, but am also really getting into weights now (at home, the gym intimidates
me)

Are people here aiming for a minimum level of exercise each day, such as x number of steps or distance walked etc?

buffyslayer · 12/06/2024 20:44

Netball win and I got two goals

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 12/06/2024 22:57

Well done, buffy!

Welcome, Dreemhouse. I think we’re all different- I ‘count’ an exercise day if I’ve done a workout DVD or a class; I wouldn’t count ordinary walking about to the Tube or between meetings, or cycling locally, but I would count a long walk or bike ride. At the moment my goal is to finish T25 Alpha and Beta, which should take me to the early autumn. My goal for the year is to do 150 days of exercise- it would be 200 but I didn’t start till April. I really relate to you stopping and starting!

BezMills, I have tried group fitness and I’m too malcoordinated. I’m always the person going left when everyone else is going right, or falling over my own feet and looking bewildered. I did Body Balance classes for a while and was laughably terrible and didn’t get any better.

T25 Ab Intervals done. This one not so bad if you’ve done a reasonable amount of Pilates.

buffyslayer · 13/06/2024 00:05

No targets for me, just to plod on. I have health conditions which mean sometimes sleep comes before exercise
Do what I can, when I can basically!

Usually do a spin class or two, lift some weights and then play netball once a week

BezMills · 13/06/2024 06:24

@ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson I have definitely experienced that 'not coordinated enough for this class' feeling, when I tried Dance Fit and Step! Now you mention it, I was often a bit lost in the yoga flow bits of Balance too.

Pump I can just about manage, it's usually the same move repeatedly, but with timing variations.

I think the reason I get away with it in BodyCombat is because I know all the moves from training in the past, and there's a lot of repetition and reuse (and they nicked a lot of basic combinations from martial arts/boxing/boxercise). Pilates (beginners/mixed) is nice and slow, and I rarely feel lost.

Circuits/Bootcamp and Boxercise are better because there's no choreography to speak of, and you can work at your own pace.

I did get asked to tone down the combinations with my boxercise class actually - I got a bit keen with the add-ons and they were spending more time trying to remember what to do than punching! So I gave them a night of really short combinations, and had them all huffing and sweating cobs. Turns out they missed all those little rests when they lost the place lol.

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 13/06/2024 08:19

T25 Lower Body Focus done - far too many squats and lunges, and I fear I didn't give it my all. It's been a long week!

Grin at your class missing the rests when they lost their places, BezMills!

I hear you @Dreemhouse when it comes to stopping and starting. Family life really does get in the way. I think we all have different goals on this thread when it comes to counting exercise. Some people pack so much in in a day it makes me tired just reading their entries 😂. Last year I also counted my walks to and from work, but this year I have decided just to count any deliberate workouts I do. My total is much lower, but I am happy I am still going 4 years after beginning this journey.

BezMills · 13/06/2024 15:09

Boxercise on Monday, cbf Tuesday (sore neck) and Pilates on Weds.

Had a lovely swim this morning at 6:45. The tides are perfect for dawnies for the next few days - I prefer mid-high tide as the beach is very stony and there are loads of hidden rocks that you can bump into at the lowest tides.

BodyCombat tonight followed by BodyPump. I think I'll take Pump really easy, and I'll be surprised if I do the whole class. I'll check in and do something, if only to support super Anna Sensei.
